Ironically, it's the people who stay and complain that give SE the feedback they need to make the game better so you'll have a reason to come back someday.

And I seem to recall you took great pride in that yourself in the 1.0 days.

Mind you, I'd rather gripe about the occasional thing here rather than head on over the official forums and have perfect strangers verbally break my knee caps for having the audacity to not like something they like and making me out to be the source of everything that's wrong in their lives. So what does that say about me?

Yes, indeed! Please don't misunderstand, criticism is essential in all things, otherwise we'd all still be listening to N*Sync and wearing Jnco pants. If you can't be an instrument of change, if it's evident that what you want to change will not, then change what you are doing.

Oddly though, I don't think the term "Nexus Weapon" is a cause worthy of a letter-writing campaign.

1) They won't change it anyway;
2) It's a fine name;
3) Duo complains to complain. I feel like anyone else posting this might be met with conversation (which I guess isn't totally fair to him) but it always just seems like a wolf is attacking his sheep.

I have my Nexus. Not lazy. Farmed Garuda hard, Titan hard, Battle Bridge whenever they were bonused. It was a great farm, with great players. Very few moaned about it.

For me, getting all the materia sb for the Novus was fun, made me gil, and I met some nice ppl (and not nice). Getting the Alex involved asking for help, I couldn't solo some of the mobs, so that took some time. The Atma books, were mind killing, so boring.
The atma hunt made me angry.
So I went from angry to having fur, and meeting some great people who all have nexus now.

Cheers!

Lets seem Atma books required you to do a certain number of fates (which you had to camp) kill certain mobs and do certain dungeons, and every books list was different or mix and matched and some way so you werent doing the same exact thing over and over, alex maps were always a surprise as you didnt know what monster you were gonna get, not only that they took seconds to kill.

That sounds a lot more fun than killing garuda/titan/ifrit HM over and over back to back all day 1000 timesm, heck I bet yo ucould get all of a primals weapon drops for EACH member of your party and still woldnt be halfway done with nexus.

In fact I just looked it up, you need 2000 light to complete nexus, the highest you can get is 10 in S Tower, that means you need to do 200 S tower runs to complete Nexus, S tower takes about 30 mins, thats 100 hours work of S Tower runs.... thats not fun... thats mind numbing, I can beat and platinum a Final Fantasy XIII game in that time.. you know, something that wouldnt consist of doing the exact same thing over and over for 100 hours

Running those three fights a combination of 500 times (assuming it was in the bonus each time) doesn't sound fun to me at all, even if I was partied with the greatest and most interesting people in the whole world. Now I'm sure you got light from other things along the way (ST, roulettes, etc), but that's still a ton of lather, rinse, repeat. Pretty crappy IMO.

First off, you get a minimum of 12 light from an ST run and 16 if it's in the bonus. Not a huge difference, but still.

Now, I think the Nexus step sucks and as more and more people actually get to it this step will become most people's least favorite (barring changes). That being said... you don't have to do it. There's nothing saying that you absolutely, positively must have a Nexus weapon. Seriously, why kill yourself doing something you hate?
-If you're worried about having the highest ilvl weapon in the game, it's not like the relics are the only option there... they haven't been since extreme primals were introduced way back when. There's always been an alternative path to getting a weapon equal in ilvl, so just go that route.
-If you're worried about missing out on the rest of the relic questline, well yeah, you will, but you'll still be able to get a weapon equally as powerful through some other means in 2.4(Shiva? Tomestones?).
-If you're worried about being a completionist, ok, fine... go with an alternate weapon and work at a leisurely pace on the nexus light farming when you have some free time. It's not a race.
-If you're worried about the secondary stats being better than anything offered on the other comparable weapons... meh, we're talking about a pretty neglible difference here that's not worth killing you about.
-If you're worried about what others might think of you... who cares? The few times I'm seen someone with a Nexus weapon my response hasn't been "OMG WOW!", it's been "That person clearly has a ton of free time on their hands". Nobody will care if you have a Nexus or not.

It's the same thing I tell fellow FC members when they're getting ticked at farming atmas or doing animus books - stop. Don't make yourself miserable. Work towards a soldiery weapon or a Ramuh weapon instead. Nobody will care and you won't drive yourself crazy. Relics are an option, not the be all end all.

no its more like "theyve suckered me into going this far... if I dont continue and finish then all those steps I took getting this far in the first place would have been nothing but an absolute waste of time"

that would be like you spending 20000 man hours restoring a car and god knows how much money... just to in the end say ***** it, give up/scrap he idea and buy a 50k car of a lot. Umm Id want that 20000 hours of my llife and money I spent back.

I say the same about devs who spent years making a game only to cancel it..... Though I guess they have that kinda time O(and money) to throw away, us normal folks however do not.

It is awful. Can't decide which I hate worse, Nexus grind or Atma grind. I crossed 1400 today, if I can tough it out another week and I can get this done and out of the way.

The thing I hate most about the recent relic quests is the amount of work we need to put in to them does add up to the length of their usefulness. With the gear constantly progressing, weapons become obsolete pretty quickly. Unless the weapon is going to be useful for a long time, the huge grind required of this is pointless. I understand Yoshi wanted to draw out the quest more and not be completed in a day like the original relic. But imo, they went too far to the other extreme.

Atma grind will be eased in 2.4. This is confirmed.

I put a ton of money into my old car's gas tank, maintenance, upkeep, etc but that doesn't mean that a) I didn't buy a new and better car eventually and b) any of that was related to the actual value of the old car. It's like the people you see on Pawn Stars who ask for 2-3x the value of what it's actually worth because of what they perceive they put into it. It doesn't work that way.

Congratulations, you put a bunch of time and effort into your relic weapon. If you're like me you got almost a year of non-stop use out of it. I'd say that's pretty good bang for my buck even if I decide to upgrade along a different path and never use it again.

Found it: Escalation of Commitment/Sunk Cost Fallacy.

"the phenomenon where people justify increased investment in a decision, based on the cumulative prior investment, despite new evidence suggesting that the cost, starting today, of continuing the decision outweighs the expected benefit."

You're cool, though!

I dont mind doing the lights because they come off everything pretty much except hunts.
I didn't like atmas but they may have solved that issue now.
Books I didnt mind at all..
Alexandrites I didn't mind.
Melding materia was stupid as hell because of the prices of DET

I hope they continue on a line like this though for the relic.. I wish other gear was as varied.

I hate the constant upgrade of all the gear every major patch... Same ole some ole.. Get rid of old tomes and introduce a new tomes with 3 new dungeons and now you have to run these new dungeons til your eyes bleed for new tomes. Enough with the gear upgrades.. i would actually like some gear that was along the lines of the relic or some gear that was good for a while.. I was going to finish gearing my bard this past week and I said why it will be outdated in a few weeks anyway... As soon as you get your gear it outdated and you dont get to enjoy the new gear. This is honestly far more boring than the relic upgrades.

I cant understand why they dont have some gear that is harder to get that is good for a while longer.... there is no special gear in this game at all..

There two path to get end-game weapon currently.

1) do high level coil and get drop (faster but need a good team and lot of skill)
2) do relic upgrade. (easier, but takes very long)

That way, FFXIV provide content for all type of player. If you don't like the grind of atma/book/Alexandrite/Light, then please do coil. People would like to have a end-game weapon for free, but then would complain that it's too easy.

I like the Nexus step, it give the extra incentive to player to help others in their duty and get some progress at the same time. My FC never been so active and helping to newer/lower player. I think it's a great step for the community.

One other path is the Unidentified Allagan Tomestone path with a weathered weapon..
With hunts now and ST dropping sand of time is probably the easiest way to go..

Good in theory, but in practice, it is not working that way. Reality is people forming Nexus farm parties to get light in an efficient manner. If they wanted Nexus farmers to help, then they should give a light bonus to help first timers through these instances.
