Do I need a special "Gaming" keyboard for ps4? Any of you recommend for me a good PS4 compatible gaming mouse and keyboard? I might switch back and forth between mouse and key, controller, and a Vita when I am not on the large screen. Thanks for the tips in advance. Cheers!

I've got a $20 logitech USB wireless walmart keyboard for ps4 and it works ok. I'm thinking that anything will work ok as long as it is USB.

Thanks. I did manage to get my cheapie logitech to work, after all.
Everything is in order. Waiting game until next Friday when my games, subscriptions, etc arrive to get in and start with RR.
Can anyone here, with a PS4 and a copy of RR, please tell me the length of time for game loading/installing/updating files it took before you were able to log in and play? Others, please feel free to tell me your experience with DL time to get in and play :)
All I remember is doing this 3 times with FFXI, once each with PC, PS2, and Xbox 360 and it taking a few hours each time to update all the data with the patches and updates, etc. My internet speed is about 7 megs according to speedtest.net.
Thanks for the answers on crafting. Sounds like I must toss out about % 85 of the XI ways to learn the new ways of XIV. I think it was also true to have multiple crafts in XI with skills. Although cooking, fishing, and gardening is what I liked most, I also took leatherworking to 100 + enhancements and +1's, and no craft was below cap, which I think was around 60 (memory sucks) I was a Jack of All Trades. I solo'd Beastmaster to 75 just so I could farm and fish in the most areas. I had a cooking mule so I could cap her at 100+. Actually, I had bit of a muling problem, back in the day lol. I think it got out of hand once I had a level 30 Norg Mule because I was tired of traveling back and forth between expansion areas.
Looks like I have much to learn and do for awhile lol. Cheers!

You won't make too much money til you hit 50 if for no other reason than the real profit in XIV crafting comes from HQ items.

However, leveling crafting in XIV is relatively inexpensive if you save up all your guild level allowances. These are mini quests that let you turn in a handful of items or a single piece of gear for an enormous exp bonus, which doubles if you manage to HQ it. It's quite easy to burn through 5 levels in a craft in a single hour via leves.

Edit to add: If you liked "classic" FFXI fishing, you'll love XIV fishing. The fish bites or it doesn't. You have a few seconds to real it in when your rod starts moving. None of the stressful "fight against the rod" they added in FFXI to combat RMT.

Basically, fishing as an economical activity isn't so hot in XIV with a few exceptions like mahi-mahi - but it's so much fun you don't care. You can fish in the clouds or the desert. There are achievements and special map markers. It's a great activity to do while watching TV.

As for Lamia's population, it feels just right to me. Lamia is a relatively cooperative server (and it'll become totally cooperative if we can ever get Google Chrome and a few other trolls to leave.) We have occasional data center hiccups and I'll get a login queue while they redo the load balancing, but that's rare. Duty Finder draws people from not just our server but from the entire Primal data center, and we seem to have a much better balance of DPS/Healer/tanks than some paces so our queue times remain relatively low.

We don't have any major role playing on server, although our FC indulges a little bit. (We've decided that Sparrow and Katarh are brother and sister now, in case you guys missed that conversation.)

Just like to point out that the Challenge Log (Lv39 IIRC?) needs to be unlocked ASAP.

A surprising amount of money can be made just by trying to meet as many challenges as possible.

When you first unlock the 'log, a lot of them will not be doable because they are not unlocked yet. However, even just the Basic Ones + the 10 Challenges in one Week done can easily net you 10-20k per week for free just by doing what you'd be doing already anyways.

My character on Faerie has 950,000g and I've sold very little on the AH (two Tier IV Materias you get out of the main Questline for ~160k each). The rest was made from doing stuff that one does while playing FFXIV, 'cept for a few 5-7k sales here-and-there, and two 100-crystal farming runs I made early game trying to level up MIN and BTN a few levels to give myself some starting cash.

So that's 600,000g just from doing the Main Quest, all the quests in Coerthas, and a few other quests here-and-there, along with daily dungeon/guildhest and the challenge log, and vendoring Allagan Coins from quests whenever I could.

Not too shabby for hardly selling anything whatsoever.

Then when you get up to 50, you can unlock the hunts, you can add another 4-5k a day just by hunting (that's another 30-40k per week), running the dungeons at 50 gives you 4k a pop, running Main Story Scenario gives about that, etc etc etc.

Unless you're going for Star Crafting, or big time melds or somecrap, I find that one doesn't really need all that much money to function in XIV. I recently splurged 70k (I had 1,100,000!) on new clothes for my crafting/gathering classes because I didn't feel like going through the hours of collecting junk trying to HQ a set, so I just bought the pieces at 10k a pop instead.

Otherwise, I spend almost nothing on the Market.

A thought occurred to me this morning that hadn't before. See if one of my first In-game friends of FFXI might still be an active member of zam. We played together on Ramuh in the same LS. He recruited me after we spent hours straight in a mid level XP party and we did a lot of stuff together over the years playing. I saw he has not been active on this site since 2013, so it may be a long shot he gets my message before I select a server, but if he does, I may go join his server and Free Company.
His zam account is the same now as back when we both played in XI and his post is at 99 since ever and we played from 2004-2008. He continued to play XI until at least the release of XIV 1.0 as far as I can see from his posting.
Salute, Margrin, one of the best White Mages I have met, from an old friend. Cheers!

Found it! I did another search with new keywords and found his blogs here on zam. He does play both XI and XIV and another MMO. Looks like I am going to Leviathan server :) Cheers!

Good luck! If your friend is unhappy with his FC, though, you'd both be welcome on Lamia :)

Thanks catwho! You are definitely part of the community that keeps me into mmos, both helpful and kind. See you around the boards! I also read that some other old LS buddies from XI all migrated to Leviathan together, so that is where I will go:)
Btw, I cannot believe it was 10 years ago I was just getting my start in FFXI, 27 years of playing FF series, and 29 years ago I began gaming. Some in the gaming community would call me old, but I prefer the term, "Well Played."
Cheers!

Small update regarding my name and I decided to mix my FFXI name in with one of my prospective choices for Realm Reborn which will also fit the lore.

FFXI Race: Tarutaru
Name: Thaddeus on Ramuh

In FFXIV Race: Lalafell
Likely name: Thaddeus Herodotus on Leviathan

Edit, everyone always just called me Thad for short.

I think I will post this here instead of just making a whole new thread, hope it is okay Greensmoker.

I have not played since like the first month of release. However I am interested in checking the game out again now with patch 2.4 coming. Basically I want to try NIN and just go through the story/new dungeons with my friends. Now, since it seems there is no date for it yet I feel like it could be coming in november and I already started getting the itch to try it again I was wondering if there is something I can do get ready for NIN? Like for example I heard something about atma grinding being a pain in the butt. Could I do that on one of my other classes and save them for NIN somehow? How far would I need to have gotten in the relic quest for it?

Yea the atmas and the alexandrites can be used for any job as long as you have a class with a relic at that point.
Basically you could use mnk if you have it leveled to the point of atmas and get your atmas and stop there. Once you get ninja to that point use the atmas for ninjas relic...

Okay I see. How far would I need to go? I have my SCH relic as far as I could get it back when I played. I don't want to have to experience much story and things with SCH since that is what I want to do with NIN if possible which is why I am asking.

By all means. The only hijacks I don't like are from trolls and you don't seem like one :)

You would have to go up to atmas because if you went any farther you would have to use them for your current relic...
How far are you on your relic? You beat titan hm?

Hmm, I don't really know what can be done now, but when I played at release I had a relic which if iirc needed HM Titan as a last quest. So I beat HM Titan I think yes. There were no more quests afaik so I don't think I went any further than that. I don't recall upgrading it to +1 either, but I might have not sure tbh.
