Weekend Goals and Accomplishments 7/11 - 7/13Follow

I keep spending my evenings killing Level 2 Toads, Level 8 bats, Padfoot, a big Jellyfish, an assortment of flowers, an Onion Prince, some monkeys, some beastmen and their leader. Then I do it again. And again. And again.

Tonight when I log on I'm going to kill Level 2 Toads, Level 8 bats, Padfoot, a big Jellyfish, an assortment of flowers, an Onion Prince, some monkeys, some beastmen and their leader. Then I'll do it again. And again. And again.

Cough up that Atma already Lower La Noscea. I'm 6 hours into this repetitive mindtwist (just counting this latest hunting stretch in this zone) and I'm ready to spend some gametime playing real content.

You know why I complain about this everyday? Because it sucks everyday.

I've given up hunting atma and just make a point to drop into FATEs in zones where I still need them when I'm there for something else. Maybe one day I'll get lucky.

I wish it was like the XI atma system where you had some control over the RNG. You'd use a variety of spells and weapon skills on bosses in Abyssea to cause things to trigger. The red !! triggers greatly increased the odds of a key item drop. Once we figured that out, we knew to build a party of 4 with the minimum to hit most triggers and a party of 6 to hit all of them. (A 4-man party with WAR/NIN, BLU/NIN, BLM/BRD, and WHM/RDM could get about 80% of the triggers by themselves.) KI farming went from an RNG slog to a tightly controlled evening event.

BLM/BRD is living dangerously though, let me tell you. Squishy squishy squishy!

Fun story. Last night I was doing an ST run and barely managing to stay awake while doing it. But, it turns out it was worth it. I snagged an Unidentified Allagan Tomestone from Xande. Now, I just need to grind out 1300 Soldiery and I can make all of that time I spent being bored to death trying to collect Atmas worthless. Which is more or less a good thing since apparently SE thought that making the next phase of a casual solo friendly grind type event into a group event was good idea.

What do Atmas have to do with Weathered weapons?

I think if you unlock your weathered weapon you never have to think about Atma again?

This is my understanding. Would like to be corrected if anyone knows differently.

Weathered is 100, then with an Oil becomes 110. That is all for the Weathered weapons' cycle currently. Novus is 110, and then add Alexandrite stat upgrades, haven't seen the side-by-side of these two 110's. It appears they are identical in base DMG, with the customizable stats being an advantage for Novus.

The difference as I understand it is Novus (Relic) will continue to have upgrade options through the life of FFXIV. The Weathered series goes to 110 and stops. Meaning you have to hunt the 12 Atmas someday if you ever intend to bring your Relic into future content and yet-to-be-released upgrade options. There will always be a second option for a similarly powered weapon.

With all that said, it appears there will always be a slightly better (than Relic) dropped weapon option from the current End-Game dungeon, such as the currently available 115 High Allagan weapons. With DPS checks being what they are for Turn 8-9, you can't just skip from 90 to 115, or even 100 to 115. You would need a considerably powerful FC to carry you through a T9 win without bringing your share of ilvl 110 DMG.

Anyway, the UAT > Weathered Weapons > Oil upgrade path is completely separate from the Relic > Animus > Novus path.

Is that right?

Close. There is a distinction.
Oils of Time upgrade accessory items, belt, rings, bracelets necklace and earrings.
Sands of Time, a harder to obtain item, upgrades armor (chest, head, body, feet) and weapons.

Oil upgrades weathered accessories and the weathered noct shield. The Sands of Time is used to upgrade the weathered weapons.

Your last sentence is correct however. I am going the uat / weathered / sands route for my blm, and going after novus for my paladin.

Ah yes. Sand for weapon. That's why we need either a T8 win + Sand drop or 750 Allied Seals.

Really looking forward to Sand drops from CT2.
