Patch 2.3 Notes (Preliminary)Follow

#77 Jul 07 2014 at 11:00 AM Rating: Excellent
If all you do is flash until your mp is out, then you're doing it wrong.

If you manage your skills correctly and only flash when you need to, then you can pretty much flash indefinitely without ever losing hate. The only problem would be your party having crappy DPS, and the fight dragging on so lon that the healer runs out of mp... But that isn't a tank problem.

In other words, paladin is fine, as long as you're doing it right.

They do need to throw PLD something though. It's functional but boring as a class. It needs something coming off of riot blade to add variety, and I'd like to see something done with the Oaths as well.

It would be cool to have one last combo move that did some kind of low-damage, high-emnity AoE move. It wouldn't be something you'd want to spam all the time, but it would definitely have situational benefits while taking the stress off of the mp pool (and making flash spam easier to manage).

I think PLD is perfect as it is. Sure, I would always like more, but what if they take something away at the cost of it?

PLD is balanced. I have no issues holding hate with large pulls.

What was stupid is clerics stance would stay on you even after you died, but sword/shield oath doesn't? WTF?

Paladin on the other hand stand there and flash till their MP runs out. Zero damage done and not even all that great for hate.

AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Oh man, that's too funn--

Wait... you're actually serious?

You *do* realize that the only skills in that game that generate more enmity than Flash are Overpower (roughly 5-6% more so barely noticeable), Steel Cyclone (requires ramp-up time on Wrath stacks), Comboed-Rage of Halone, and Comboed-Butcher's Block, right? It still amuses me that people still disregard Flash as "crap" because people on the OF proclaimed it to be terrible when ARR launched and never bother to run the numbers.

You can do it about 8 times and then you're out. It works, but barely, one mistake or one thing out of range and it's going for someone.

Flash is point blank AoE. If something's "out of range" that's a failing on you not positioning everything correctly, and considering Overpower is a narrow conal if you can't hit everything with Flash (immensely easier to use) you'd never hit everything with Overpower either.

Secondly, Riot Combo gives you more than enough MP to Flash all day, errday. Flash 2-3 times, then weave in Flashes after a combo step ( Flash > Flash > Fast > Flash > Riot > Flash > Fast > Flash > Riot > Flash > etc.) and start getting mana back when they're all low.

If you have a crap weapon, you aren't going to hold hate on AoE packs on *either* job so there's no sense in trying to delude yourself in thinking it would be any "easier" to hold hate as a Warrior.

Warrior is a slightly burstier AoE that tires quickly; Paladin is steadier and go literally go forever if needed. They're very well balanced in that respect when it comes to holding AoE hate.

My only request would be to give Shield Swipe some small enmity boost so I could use it earlier in a fight. I can't count the number of times when it's proccing left, right, and center at the start of a boss fight and I can't justify using it because it's only pure damage. It's a godsend to help delay TP bleed-out but due to no additional modifier I can't use it until usually a minute into a boss fight.

Agreed.I just don't understand people's negativity. I men, yes, there will be flaws, no, the game will never be utterly perfect. Guess what? Everything has flaws and nothing is perfect. Coming from XI, I can honestly say that while I do recognize the flaws, this is such an improvement that they don't bother me in the least. What does it say when the closest I can come to an actual 'complaint' is that I have to leave my settings on 'hide headgear' because I find every single piece I've gotten to be goofy looking as hell or ugly as hell? It says that any complaining I do would be nitpicking.

Depends on how much content you've done in this game, because I can promise you many people's complaints with this game content wise and progression wise isn't cherry picking :p You may like and accept everything but checking out the official forums and dev responses will show you they understand not everyone does.

It's not "negativity" unless by negativity you mean "not accepting or liking everything shoved in front of you." :p

People will like or not like whatever based on what they consider as good or bad in their eyes in different circumstances. But they still accept it. That is not negativity though, just preference.

It becomes "negative" when you do not accept what is. Complaining is just negativity voiced. In hopes of things changing in the individuals favor.

Enough of that though. These hunts seem to be dope.

Is it wrong of me that the only thing i'm truly excited about is the simple fact that shouts, yells and tells have (finally) been limited to a set maximum per second?

Yes, because I can finally talk to NPCs while mounted and the game just takes care of it for me. I'm not sure what else anyone could possibly be excited about, personally.

Well ok I guess there's a bunch of new content or something

Also, as expected:

Your magitek armor's magitek and photon cannons are now operational. They can be accessed via the Pet Hotbar when riding your mount. However, please note that these weapons do not employ lethal force, and will have no effect in combat.

I do not know why these couldn't be used lethally in PvE combat, unless they want to keep chocobo as the sole viable combat mount?
It would help differentiate some dungeons if they were mount themed. Say like one dungeon you need a certain type of chocobo or magitek to access normally inaccessible areas of the dungeon. A wall blown apart, dealing with a particular line of enemies who resist normal spells and attacks, flying or dropping into crevasses, etc, etc. Maybe getting in a group of mounted companions and storming the body of a colossal creature. I am reminiscing about a giant from a different game, but I think it would be awesome.

I still would like to be able to enter a full scale PvP racing/battle circuit. One where I could play the role of mechanic, body paint and repair technician, technology researcher(choosing magic crystal engine or streamlining aerodynamics, metal alloys, etc), uniform designer, racer, and promoter. Or do it in a group, Nascar meets podracing meets hockey.

Chocobo, oh chocobo, where art thou wings for flight? Where are thou hydrogenous attunements? Blow thy fire upon the sinful naysayers!
Water my whistle, erm.. crops.. May you one day rest in the annals of time as the greatest bird who ever graced the halls of the Gold Saucer circuits. /kneel
