Checking the Dev. Tracker just recently, I saw this post from Camate which stood out to me from a couple of days ago:

We’ll be introducing new, higher level primary tools for both Disciples of the Land and Hand in patch 2.3. Smiley: smile

The topic of forcing crafters to have to pick a few crafts to focus on instead of cross-classing every craft has been brought up, like in the recent Desynthesis thread. Desynthesis seemed like the beginning of the end of being a master in every craft in the game with its 300 point cap over all crafts, but this new information that Artisan/Forager tools are going to be obsoleted just one patch later puts a whole new wrinkle in things.

They haven't come out and explicitly said that is why they're introducing new tools so quickly after 2.2, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that is probably something they might be aiming for by making the best tools no longer the best so quickly.

Anywho, just thought I'd share this bit of info and see if anyone else had any thoughts.

Its probably going to take the current tools to make the stuff needed to get the new tools so it's not like you wont have to go through the process and get the new ones immediately. Even getting the current best tools requires more than simply being 50 on all crafting classes. You need a bunch of melds as well or you wont be able to push your HQ percentage into a range that guarantees you a HQ material to turn in for a tool.

If they are adding better tools I'm all for it. That means less people will be maxed out making actually focusing on a craft. At least this way if you wanted to you can still fully max your crafting but it would take a lot of perseverance. Hopefully this will even out the market. The next step is to allow players to craft better gear without making coil obsolete. Perhaps adding material drops from coil mobs and chests could work. Anything to make crafting useful. Right now the only thing crafting is good for is to become a better crafter which doesn't make much sense.

The item names of the new tools imply a connection with the existing ones. I'm guessing they'll be upgradeable.
