New Job in First expansionFollow

So I read that a tank job would come in the first expansion. If this is correct?

What job do you think that will be?
What job do you want it to be?
How do you wish the job would work?

I am not sure what the job would be. I hope it is a two handed weapon wielder.

Either a version of sword knights from tactics or samurai from tactics. More interested in seeing a samurai tank using bushido magic. A samurai tank would fit nicely due their strict code of honor they adhered to historically.

I know a lot of people are hoping for a SAM dps, but I too feel SAM fits the tank role better. They wear thick armor and huge helmets. I truly think SE should have created and offered 2 specs for each job, but since that will never happen...

Dark Knight could also come back as a tank instead of a DPS I suppose.
#3REDACTED, Posted: Jun 14 2014 at 12:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not really interested in tanking, but very interested in Samurai. Your idea for tank is depressing. Go home.
#4REDACTED, Posted: Jun 14 2014 at 1:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I wonder how many people would be interested in RDM tank?

Watch SE throw a complete curveball and give us Thief... as an evasion based tank. Imagine the uproar over that one.

No uproar, I would be SO happy with that! It'd be a really cool take on a class that is typically DPS based. XIV should do things a bit more differently!

A SAM tank would be solid too.

Truthfully, I'm hoping we see an entirely brand new class to XIV, like PUP was to XI. It doesn't have to be pet based, just something new and interesting would be solid.

If I had to bet, I'd say we'll see RDM or a Gun Mage Hybrid/Support type based off of Musketeer. It's consistent with Barcher.

I'm a returning player so please forgive me if this is wrong. I thought Yoshi said that all jobs will NOT be included in any expansions, but will instead be in normal updates..IE ARR 2.4 THF/NIN.

I would rather a completely new class as well.

The next class after NIN we know could be this gun class, but it would be odd to get simply another DD, so I've heard speculation about the gun class being Chemist, and it'll be a healer. It'll be interesting to see if that's how it actually turns out.

Or a gun mage buffer/healer/debuffer(Pick your none dps preference there) a la ffx-2 I always loved that class.

Change in tune. Yes new Jobs/Classes in expansion, but also those in patches as well. Work load issues due to launch troubles, I'm guessing.

From what I understood after E3 it sounds like those waiting for a healer or tank will have to wait for the expansion. Other than that though they are adding nin and considering they said "dagger and gun class sooner than you think, wait for E3" it would make sense for a gun job to be revealed before expansion as well. In that case it will not be a healer, but I guess it could be support/hybrid (since Yoshi only mentioned specifically healer/tank having to wait for expansion). I was hoping for Chemist healer myself, but then Chemist support could be fun too I think.

I have to agree with those hoping for SAM tank in expansion, not that I would play it myself, but I think it would be a cool concept for a tank. What type of tanking would they use do you think?

Other than Chemist I want Blue mage, Morpher and Machinist myself, but not really sure what roles tbh, I am a healer/support mostly and do not like tanking so I guess if at least one of those came as a healer/support I would be happy, otherwise I might try one as a DPS if I am unlucky.

I'd be against turning jobs who previously had set roles that werent Tanks, into tanks.

Outside of feeling that we already have plenty of tanks as it is. Adding more is just going to push Paladin further into the background, more than it already is from Warriors being around.

But to join into the uproar of speculation...

I'd like to see an Engineer class with a tank robot/pet perhaps. Or a gun as well.

I hear a lot of people saying some sort of support roll next, but the way this game is any type of support roll would be another dps job(df only has 3 job types) and we can't have another dps unless they change the way df works and rebalance the content we have to something like Light parties 1 tank 1 healer 1 support 2dps

Full party 2 healer 2 tank and 2 support and 4dps

And make it so archer is dps and bard is support to add flexibility.

Then they can add some cool support jobs like rdm dancer before tanks and healers even add in a geo and chemists/alchemists as support as well.

Don't be too set on what a particular job is "supposed to be." This is a different game and they can make jobs be whatever they want. If they want to make SAM a tank, they can. If they want to make DNC a tank, they can.

As for more tank jobs pushing PLD away... that's not a problem with the number of tank jobs, that's a problem with PLD not being quite good enough as it is now.

Sort of like Spellslinger in Wildstar?

That would be great, if we had specs... Having the only gun class in the game restricted to healing sounds terrible.

Ya, I'm actually playing a Spellslinger right now, but I'm not too impressed with WIldstar, and have too much to ctach up on in XIV anyways. It might be cool to see a CHemist with a gun in one hand, and a green vial in the other.

Adding the support role would have an adverse effect on Duty Finder Queue Times. There's already a long wait for DPS and if the Support Role was added it could be even longer. Using FFXI as an example - How many parties were held at a stand still because they couldn't find a Bard or a Red Mage for Refresh post 41? How many invites would those jobs get the minute they logged in while Damage Dealing Classes waited sometimes for hours to get an invite?

The worse thing they could do is add that support role as a mandatory slot for filling a party.
