Two FFXIV Games on one computer? Follow

#1 May 13 2014 at 4:08 AM Rating: Default
I have been sharing my computer with my son who plays at different times than I do. However, he now wants to have his own game where he can create more chars etc.

So he has purchased another edition of the game.
My game is via Steam.

How can we have both games installed on one computer. I realize we have to open a new account for my son which won't be a problem. But installing the game on the same computer may cause problems? It may be ok especially since the first version is via Steam.
I don't know enough about computers to work this out so we have hesitated doing anything with the second copy we have.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe if my first version was not via Steam I could just keep the one game and simply log in with the different account number. But having one acc on Steam probably is different.
Also the version my son got is a Collectors edition he managed to buy off somebody at work (who had it but changed his mind playing it since he is now hooked on Dark Soul) so that may have more stuff on it than the Steam regular version I purchased.

Do you still log in with the launcher when you use the steam version? When it launches you should be able to just change the account logging into the game. I can't see you being able to install the game twice.

Also, the collectors edition items are tied to the account, not to the disc or anything so no problem there, as long as the person you bought it from hasn't used the code already. If he did you got ripped off.

The Steam version of the game will be just fine. When it comes to any MMO, the important part is the account subscription ( username a password). The only thing you need to do is to register his game key and create a account for him, it does not matter if is a normal or ce version since the different is only games items which he will received in game by SE.

After his account is register, he can log on using your computer just normal, I would recommend using the Token Key from the beginning since it will eliminated having to deal with the security location e-mail when you log in from a new location every time. You can have 20 people even more playing each with their own account on the same computer if you wanted, just one person at a time can use the computer. The game it self does not matter, is only the account (log in username and password).

Also gets you a free teleport destination of your choosing.

Sharing the same PC you're better off sharing an account. Unless you plan on getting a second PC or a console to play together. Doesn't make sense to pay two sub's if you have to take turns to play. Everyone else answered your question though :)

If you haven't already registered the game to another account, you can use it to upgrade your own. You'll both get the CE items and you can pay a much smaller fee. Would make more sense to get extra character slots rather than another monthly subscription unless you're both alt-o-holics.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.
