Can I hug you, please? This is the kind of argument I wanted to hear and you've provided it in such a calm and understanding manner.
You're providing quantitative reasons and specific examples of why spell speed is a benefit particularly for casters and stress using experience to gauge the benefit of spell speed rather than the benefit purely on paper. (IE. You cite using Stat potions, which is a 15 second window, hence higher Spellspeed would most definatly note more iterations within such a timeframe, 7 attack vrs 6 or a straight 17% Damage increase per window if fully utilized.) ) You addressed the core issue I had raised at the beginning: Statistical debates verses Pragmatics.
To which case, I'd like to ask as point of curiosity, is there threshold point you go for to obtain your desire spell speed, much like the accuracy threshold? I'd like to pass that along to my fellow BLMs if possible to help our performance going forward - a goal point for them to work towards.

Unfortunately, based on what the OP said and how he obtained his stat weights (PuroStrider), he learned that spell speed and crit are about equal. He also neglected the fact that the HA ring has THIRTEEN spell speed on it so it's not just 12 cRIT > 2 INT..it's 12 CRIT << 2 INT + 13 spell speed.
True, when I looked up the stat values it does seem that the particular cited case does run against the whole item BiS moment. But I did agree with most people on that assessment also due to piratical reasons as well. It makes no sense really to push for a weathered if you're already clearing Coil 6 regularly. From what I'm hearing, Mage Loot is as frequent in Second Coil as melee loot was First Coil - though that is speculative.
As an aside, I've yet to really see a full on spreadsheet for DRG the same way Puro does, do you or anyone have link to such a reference if possible? The Dragoon Thread isn't all that easy to follow these days. Whill Skill Speed tends to scale very well with Monk, I've not seen much of a high value placed upon it in Dragoon situations. Mainly due to our already slower rotation with no buffs and emphasis on harder hits already placed in our kit.
Still trying to determine if the 3 Str/23 Skill Speed weighs above 11 Det and 21 Crit. Fortunately, I've more clear cut pieces I still need to upgrade before I have to come to a conclusion on that. But I'm mulling over it.
Anyways Hitome, thank you very much for a clarification on perspective. You've essentially confirmed that there are specific windows both large and important enough in high level fights that necessitate a level of Spellspeed, and have confirmed my suspicion that there are rare cases in which ilvl is not a valid measurement as to what is best for your particular build, though again the rarity must be stressed.
Now I'm just wondering if my particular situation is as such, if people don't mind me hyjacking the thread.
This is my current build. - Mind the Glamours, I'm a Roleplayer >.>
As you can see I'm already waaay over accuracy cap for my current content chokepoints (Coil 5, Titan Ex.)
And my only available headpiece upgrade is
Weathered Astrum Helm. The 16 accuracy
completely goes to waste. So I really need the stat weights to compare against the STR and Skill Speed, which have different stat values than BLM, and I'm not really piecing together a clear spreadsheet to base stat values on for DRG.
So, I gotta mull over things a bit. Good thing I have Boots, Pants, and a multitude of accessories still to go through beforehand. Most are just straight upgrades so no worries there.
