This would be a great thread for SE to read.

What bothers me the most right now is having to take my hand off of the controller to click the level sync button every time I want to join a low level FATE. That gets old fast when Atma farming.

Yeah, killing part is Yoshi stated he plays this game almost exclusively on the gamepad lol. They're implementing an 'auto sync' feature you can turn on/off god knows when.

Or you could both RTFM... The touchpad works as the select button if you press down on it. Press it in twice and the cursor will zip first to the chat log then over to the level sync button.

Next?

That doesn't solve the issue with PS3/PC player's gamepads. Sometimes it skips the sync button when you hit select, hence why they stated they're adjusting it for easier usability with gamepads.

I can hit level sync just fine using my controller on PC. I don't see what the problem is here.

I've noticed if you've queued up a Duty Finder mission, the select button no longer goes directly to the Level Sync button. At those times, you have to select the Duty Finder link, then press Down to reach the Level Sync button.

'Getting Preludesy'? Just because he's gone doesn't mean you have to shift your focus to me lol. It's a simple statement, SE wouldn't be adjusting it if it worked flawlessly on the other supported platforms, it wasn't even a "huge issue" posted, the UI dude stated it when it came to overall changes he planned for the next set of updates, they just never stated if it was 2.28 or 2.3+.

Smiley: dubious Hitting the 'select' button twice doesn't select the level sync option for you?? I use a 360 controller on pc and it does for me. "Select" cycles my chat box, quest log, mini map, buffs.

Yeah, sometimes it doesn't, it'll completely by pass that button occasionally since if for example you have duty status up it'll take that as priority.

Once you have duty status selected, you cna use arrow Up/Down to select various parts of the duty list. Also very handy for doing quests that have ground placing item types.

Make a macro. It's very simple, just /lsync (that's a lower case L). Set the macro to your hotbar and hit it when you enter a FATE to sync your level without clicking on that damn button.

It also works if you type it into your chat bar like other slash commands.

Playing Devil's advocate here...

1). I've already had to add a 3rd twelve-button hotbar because I ran out of buttons. I can't see wanting to add a button just to Level Sync because the Level Sync button is difficult to reach with a controller.

2). How are you going to type while holding a controller? If you're on a console, you'd have to use the on-screen keyboard and I imagine that'd be even more annoying than "tabbing" through all the UI elements trying to get to the Level Sync button. You could have a keyboard hooking up to that console (though I know from experience, keyboards only partially work with the 360; a standard microsoft natural that I used kept re-initializing itself every 3-5min which would cause you to lose some input if you were using it while this happened). This is among the many reasons why I would probably never play an MMO with a controller.

What I'd rather see, is an option in the Options Menu you can set that pops up a Yes/No dialogue when you enter a FATE that asks you "Do you wish to Level Sync? Yes/No"

That way, it'd be just as simple as clicking "Yes" if you want to Level Sync.

I guess as long as the option is to actually see the pop up box I could get behind that.

I'd prefer not to have another element popping up.

*nods* I can imagine times where I wouldn't want the thing popping up, which is why I suggested it could be an option. When you're grinding out FATEs, you could turn it on. When you're done, you could turn it off so it won't bother you anymore. In fact, even though I use a PC and clicking the Level Sync button is trivial for me to do, I'd still enjoy this option because sometimes I plain forget to click the button and I charge into attack something and nothing happens and I'm "Oh, derp. I forgot to Level Sync!"

Then I level Sync, then my buffs wear off, and meanwhile, time's a tickin or people are killin mobs and I'm missing out on participation points while I'm fumbling over Level Sync.

A popup would be an easy reminder "HEY, LEVEL SYNC NOW!" and I probably wouldn't be forgetting to set Level Sync whenever stepping into a FATE.

It's a huge QoL upgrade for controller users for sure :) I don't ever use the d-pad to target enemies any longer, only party member.

Noticed this about the targeting, just wanted to add that "expanded hold controls" allow you to access another hotbar by pressing (LT + RT) or (RT + LT). Then you'll have 32 hotbar slots available without switching sets.

Never looked back after setting this up, no more switching palettes during battle.

Repairing and melding are unbelievably irritating... if I as a player have the relevant crafts leveled just let me do them on whatever job I'm on... Especially as it doesn't seem as if there's a modifier on your success which is gear-dependent. Trying to meld a mixed set of gear drives me nuts because you have to switch to say leatherworker and then go into your menus, find the gear you're now not wearing and then meld it. Should it blow up or you want to add more, it's such a faff to go back through this. As many armour sets are a combination of several crafts it's incredibly easy to get lost in what you're doing.

^^
This is most of the reason why I don't bother repairing my own gear, though I get a feeling that it gets more expensive later to have an NPC do it and that is going to suck. I know they can check to see if you have other classes leveled without being that class currently, and I know they have a way to award XP to a class that you don't have active currently, so why again do we need to change? Just to see the pretty animation of you pulling out your tool to do the work? Do we *really* need that at the cost of inconveniencing us to the point a system is not worth using because of the hassle involved?
#120 May 12 2014 at 6:47 AM Rating: Excellent
Even though repairs do get more expensive later on, it's still too much of a hassle to do it yourself. A repair for a level 50 gear set is usually over a thousand gil, and it goes up from there.

I still fork out the $$$ to the NPC because I can't be ***** to carry around the required catalysts or to switch classes, especially if I'm about to head into a fight. SE did this deliberately as a steady minor gil sink since transit costs can be cut down to nothing if you are not in a hurry.

1.0/1.23's repair system was so much better..especially being able to do it mid dungeon runs.

Repairs never really get even remotely expensive in this game. Even failing coil t4 over and over for an hour (which utterly wrecks your gear, if any of you have been in such a group before) only results in you paying about 2k in repair fees, which should be peanuts to anyone that's actually at the point of doing coil t4.

Certainly not enough to make me wanna use up more inventory slots carrying dark matter around + having to swap jobs multiple times to get the repairs done when I can just talk to one of numerous npcs (pretty much every sort of settlement in the game has a repair npc in it somewhere) and have it done much quicker, without having to worry about if my gear is damaged enough to the point to make dark matter an economical choice. time = money, etc.

Nope, at that point you probably want to invest in the durability potions.

Not sure if bs or not, but I heard someone saying that you actually lose the effect of those potions if you die... which seems rather silly given their purpose.

If that is the case, you'd only ever want to use them on a *successful* t4 group (or any other activity involving a lot of mob kills)

Hmm, yeah that would be pretty silly if it does wear on death, specially given how long they last (much like Sanction..not that it has any use for anyone that hits 50.) Though if it does then it probably explains the extremely short recast time compared to other potions.
