The gil sellers are gone...?Follow

#27 May 02 2014 at 6:59 AM Rating: Excellent
I turned cleaning out my blacklist into a game.

In the two rows of names, look for the shorted name first. Nuke it first. Delete Xfdsa Xdsa before Wendoilyndfgh Tiaasdf. Repeat until all names are gone. When you encounter a name of a person you blacklisted on purpose for some reason, ignore them, of course. Eventually those names will hit the top. Whichever column ends up with the last longest name "wins."

Hopefully I won't have to do that again for another month or so.

Yeah, like they do in a messaging system. They just need to put a "can I add you to my friend list?" prompt at the gate before you can receive any other communication. That way when Fjklajfkl Tkaldnka comes calling, you just laugh and ignore it.

Ultros RMT spam has stepped up a gear these last few days, I blocked 1, 5 mins later another with same message, blocked that then a few mins later a third from the same group. Constantly emptying old names off of the black list to fit new ones :(

It'd be nice to see accounts that get banned automatically removed from friendlist / blacklist, then emptying wouldn't be an issue.

I find it amusing that you can't ever turn it off.

I think I'd rather deal with having to blist a few names a night rather than having a feature like that motivating RMT to go back to /shout, /yell and warp hack assisted /say spam.

They already do /shout, at least on Lamia in Ul'dah. I've seen their shouts several times now.

They probably know they are insta-blacklisted almost always so they also /shout their adverts too. I think I've seen a few /says too, usually near the Marketboards/Summoning Bells, but not all that often.

Given they are only asking ~$9 for 1mil, I have to wonder just how much business they actually do; even if they do get a few buyers here-and-there, if each purchase is only $9, they'd surely need a lot of purchases (or one player willing to purchase multiple millions) to really make any serious money doing this.

I wonder if they are getting desperate to sell, or if there's simply that many fools stupid enough to bite. Sometimes I wish SE would release general ban information a little more often (IE, "We banned ____ people for buying gil this past month").

Would be interesting to see just how many people really are wasting $$$ on that crap.

They used to use /shouts here on Admantoise, but it's been a long time since I've seen it. I've been able to successfully turn off my shout and yell filters so I can watch for end-game group recruitment shouts, etc. On the very, very rare occasion I see it, I can blist and move on.

I'll take /tells over /shout spam any day. /tells don't come in all that quickly, while /shout and /yell spam would typically get sent out every couple of seconds and quickly flood the chat channel.

They currently get marked as "deleted." Seems like a "purge all deleted" button would be useful on the blacklist. Or hell, just a purge all.

They don't do this automatically because of compromised accounts, it wouldn't be really good to come back to your unhacked account and all you were removed from everyone's list and your LS/FC, otherwise yeah characters that get banned/moved show up as deleted so a clear deleted button would be much more likely.

I didn't even know you could report people for names, most of the time I don't think I'd even bother anyway, but it does somewhat dampen my enthusiasm for a run when the party list pops up and I see some idiotic name in it.

Just off the top of my head, recently I've seen or been in parties with **** Face (twice unfortunately), Illslap Yokidz, Phat Camp, Dingleberry Paradise, **** Hurt, and Ted Bundy (which disgusts me, not someone anyone should pay homage to). I'm sure there have been others in the past couple weeks that I am just not thinking of. I don't know why anyone would want to play with some of these names, even if the individual is immature enough to find it funny initially that has to wear off very quickly.

While I think some names are tricky to block (like ones that sound naughty only if the first and last name combined), but how can **** (presumably you are referring to a 4-lettered word that start F or S) be actually allowable at character creation? That said, I still know places that allow passwords like "qwerty", it makes you wonder do the programmers even bother to check what the user has typed. Anyway, I would love to see a character called "Qwerty" running around :-P

Takes me about a week if I actually bother trying.

But since, as you said, gil is worthless, there's no point in pushing yourself unless you have a major monetary goal. We've purchased our FC house and I've decked out my room now. I've gotten the two ridiculously expensive minions I wanted, the cushion and the magic broom. At this point, any gil I make is going to be saved for when I finally get to the Novus stage of the relic weapon and I'm dumping expensive materia into it.

Most of the RMT workers in China are there because the conditions are slightly less sucky than working at Foxxcon. Only slightly. 12 hour shifts, shared dorm spaces - but hey, you're technically getting paid to play video games all day. I heard most are making the equivalent of under $5/day once their room and board is taken out.

I still get tells about once per hour, something like 5 dollars per 100k. I laugh and then I wonder why are they sending that to a maxed legacy player. I also put antisocial notes on my search to get GC/FC people to leave me alone.

That's odd, I coulda sworn it was $5 for 1000k (1mil)? Or maybe that was $9.99 for 1000k? I don't remember.

Maybe each server is different...

But yeah... they just have bots spamming everybody that comes up in area searches. They don't look at who you are, or what you're wearing, or what you have in your search notes. If your name appears on the search, you get a /tell. It really is as simple as that.

They really need a DND (Do Not Disturb) mode that makes you not show up on searches at all. I'd SO set that and leave it set on. That would kill 99% of all incoming RMT /tells.
