So courting misery is ok? Why strive to make it better?

The only reason I log in is because I forgot to change my sub to a 1 month instead of 6 month before the renewal and it feels like throwing money away to not log in. If I had changed it, I would probably drop until at least 2.3. Why gear up when I'm never going to experience the content I need the gear for?

One of our most active guys dropped a month ago, and another is fading. I'd say many people are on the brink right now, waiting for improvements and hoping they are big.

The majority of players would quit if they were not happy.

For most of the playerbase quitting is not such a big deal nor something to try to prolong. That's what the normal people do.

Unless we find out tomorrow that the active playerbase has suddenly dropped to half, then yes, the majority of players are, in fact, happy.

I took a few weeks break just now. Maybe would've taken a longer one if I didn't start a new character on a JP server. It's not a big deal. I'll be back in 2.3 too as long as there's cool stuff for me to do. The gear grind is fun for a while but I won't hesitate if it grows stale.

So players would quit if they weren't happy and BTW you're taking a break. Hmm.

I hear that more and more each day.

Not gonna lie either, I see and hear that more and more and even people who "silently" quit/take a break but still hang round TS and mentions they simply moved onto other games. I think the biggest thing is, this game has the content that disguises the grind (like most MMOs) pretty well but when you look at substance (aka when the game "starts" as yoshi says) you realize just how little there is or hidden well behind a lockout that's only there to keep the content alive for 3 months.

This whole post is spot on Onionthiefx. Your suggestion to spread the soldiery significantly out through more of the content is a great idea. It's exactly when players decide that one dungeon is the fastest/best way that you should up the rewards for doing other content. You could even give 2 Soldiery per Fate and then even Atma farming wouldn't feel quite so pointless.

I just logged on and realized how little I want to Brayflox, or Roulette:Expert, or Leviathan. Then I logged out. *sigh*

Soldiery is so damn easy to cap that I wouldn't really care at all if they added even more sources of it unless it was accompanied by an increase to the weekly limit. Almost anything you can do at level 50 (that's actually designed for level 50s... so FATEs aren't included here) drops soldiery. I'm usually capped within the first 2-3 days of the week, just like how I was with myths back when they had a weekly limit too.

What I would like to see is more generosity with the myths, whether that's due to giving more out or requiring less for the books. I imagine this is in the woodworks already anyway though.

I'd like to see some kind of gear set you could get from beastman dailies.

If each type of content had a chain of gear sets, leveling up various jobs would be way easier (plus we'd have even more carrots to chase).

It seems I'm on the unlucky side of this crap system. The mind numbing boredom of the last 20-30 hours with no drop has made me remember exactly why I quit FFXI.

Also boring:
- Brayflox
- Farming Coil 1-5
- Even more Leviathan

The only thing I plan to do this week is cap soldiery. But why? So I can go to more Turn 6? Who cares really. There no doubt that the Atma system has, at least for me, severely underlined the pointlessness inherent in all MMO's.

"You may get nothing and not have any fun doing it!"

Oh yeah? I have a better idea.

I feel ya Gnu... I really do... I want to cap soldiery this week, get 50 or so more next week, and buy some pants so I don't look like a pervert. After that... I really don't know why I'm loggin in aside from maybe helping some FC mates get some of their stuff done...

Boring:
Dying in Titan EX
Dying in Turn 5
Farming myth tomes for books.

The fact that 2.3 is looking pretty anemic doesn't give me much hope either. I really feel I've hit 'the wall'.

Urzol and Gnu... I agree but I seem to get bashed if I say it. funny a lot of people who really liked this game are starting to feel the same way.

I just feel like I am being forced to run content till I hate it..
I really like the game from 1- 50 because there was so many quest and that's what I like.. You could do questing, fates, dungeons a nice mix.

Every update we get a few hours of main quest and a few hours of hildy. To me that's what they need to focus on instead of all the reused content. to me there is little meat and way tooooooo much filler in this game..

Gnu I agree spread the tomes out so I can do more stuff..

I really like the three new dungeons but after running them 30 times or how ever many times Ihave each now I cringe having to do the content again.. It is worse than grind.

They burned me out on fates for ever with atmas.

Then they throw walls up so it stops you and very few people can pass. And that is what makes feel the way you do ... I agree with you.. Titan EX and turn 5..

I wish they would start some new content.. I told Tes last night it might be best to walk away from this game and come back in a few months with new content. I really think this game has some issues where people will come and go if they dont come out with some better filler in between.. Or more main game so they need less filler.

You see it in our Fc .. If it were not for newer people and Andy and Ziggy coming back most of the original people are gone or their playtime is way down.

What stinks is Tes and I have a huge investment in this game.. We just bought 2 PS4, two desks and monitors, we almost bought a vita for it.. I am not saying we are quitting but I would really like some different content and more questing like a rpg should be.. I want to feel like I want to get on, not that I have too get on. I want to play but I want to enjoy my playtime..

Actually Tes just called me at work she got her charge card bill with that charge and was not happy..
That really pissed me off. I didn't know it would be like that forever...I thought that was a one time deal and went back to monthly. Oh then they also charged 6 months of retainer.... I want to call them up and see if they will credit me back and put me to monthly.. But I know they wont..

I am starting to think this game is not being set up long term and because it is so successful now they are milking it for every penny to pay off all that debt and investors and are not really looking at the future of this game..

The big problem with the game right now, it's not pug friendly. The 8 man content which is hard enough (evidenced by the amount of people who can't win), leads to requiring a static. These statics are great if: You work 9-5 Monday-Friday, have no significant other (or have one who stays home and doesn't do anything), have no family and do absolutely nothing outside the game. The minute you don't fall into all these categories, making 3 nights a week becomes near impossible, which leads many leaders to throw tantrums and replace you.

The ATMA thing clearly isn't working also shown by this thread and the one on the official forums, the people who enjoy are the ones like me. We managed to finish the ATMA farm in a couple days, but that's not right. What boggles my mind is they had a decent system in place with the initial extreme primals, beat all three, get token, get loot! After beating each one, get chance at some other loot! No lockout, can participate all you want! For people like me, this was perfect, that statics in my shell would let me in on any given night of the week and help me get my wins. I would get gear, and progress. I did manage to beat Coil 1-5 towards the end of it's life cycle since statics were bored and constantly using the PF to find reps.

Now, we're back at square one, absolute best gear is from coil, everything else is sub par. Which I wouldn't mind, if Coil was more accessible to people with actual lives. Why is there a damn weekly lockout on it? Allow people to run it and only get one piece of gear much like CT, I don't see the problem. All this being said, I still enjoy the game and still join 2nd coil parties through PF (even though they never get anywhere). Somewhere though, SE needs to figure out how to balance this stuff out. You can't alienate a huge chunk of your fan base for the few "elites" who have more time on their hands then others. Should the best gear still come from coil? Absolutely! Should it be behind so many walls, I don't think so.

We'll see. Growing a little bored myself and not very fond of this "Oh, every patch will be just side stuff." deal we've been getting.

My concerns are really with what Yoshi has said. He likes the WoW model but I think he may forget the roots of what MMOs are (because that's what WoW was originally) if we keep going down this path. Maybe atmas were just an experiment to test the popularity of RNG in modern day MMOs?

To be honest, i actually am a fan of side-grades.

First, it keeps everyone from wearing exactly the same thing. Which is what we had at launch with Darklight gear and the minor selection of available gear.

Second, and this is the real kicker, back in XI, there were a LOT of side-grades, but they were all useful and everyone wanted to get all the pieces even if they didnt have a lot of use for them. I would much rather have 10 side grades with similar stats, than losing all the hard work and progress we made with every update where they give your current gear away as trash in dungeons, or make the stats completely irrelevant and make you grind another 3 months for the flavor-of-the-day item that they thought up during a 5 minute coffee break with terrible limitations or systems.

It's all a matter of perspective, i'm sure. But i grow tired of SE ******** us over everytime they force us to progress, yet implement terrible weekly restrictions or random droprates each and every time.

I think this is what gets me too.. I dont like WOW and If I did, I would play WOW.. It ok to borrow some from the game but this is a Final fantasy game and not WOW.. Its like all these retail stores trying to be like walmart.. Forget it they have been doing it too long and you are not going to beat them at their own game..

Be your own game..

On a different note:
I will say this:
I really liked the leviathan fight it was creative and awsum..

The restrictions and the walls like Urzol mentioned are placed to slow us down because they dont have enough content yet. Stinks but it is reality..

I honestly think if Se gets control of this game in a year or so it could be awsume, It sure started out awsume.. I am sure most of it comes down to money and resource that this game was allotted because it was such a failure the first time and SE was loosing sooo much money up till now. There was not much to actually stick behind this game and was a more of wait and see how it does. Then the game explodes way beyond what they thought and they are waaaay behind the curve....

I think I'd get bored of it if I played it every day too.

As it is, since I'm fairly limited in playtime, I'm kind of jonesin' by the time I finally get a chance to log on.

For those who are bored, take it as a cue to go and play through the backlog of other cool games you've been missing. Try out ESO. Play some single player stuff (X and X-2 HD are both amaaazing.)

"You may get nothing and not have any fun doing it!"

I need to chime in here, because at this point this post really sums up my feelings towards the game.

I am a SE fanboy through and through. I played my first FF when I was 6 years old and was hooked ever since. I played XI for 7 years. I've played XIV from the 1.0 beta, and white knighted this game even when it was terrible. Yes, I was stupid and misguided, but I held up hope for better.

I've heard a lot of people relating the Atma system to pretty much 95% of the content in XI, and saying that by comparison "oh it's not so bad". I think the reason that so many of us look back fondly on XI was because of the social aspect, and how the game design essentially forced us to cooperate with others... which sometimes led to true friendships. But the reality is that XI was packed to the point of bursting with bad design decisions, mainly in the form of masochistic time sinks.

Since the release of 2.0, I think we as players have come to expect better. You could say we've been spoiled, but I think we've merely been given what we're owed as consumers. We've seen a lot of good design choices, especially those that remove RNG elements in favour of progression systems. Even some of the most inept companies (Riot Games) realize that RNG is awesome in a multiplayer context and have all but removed it.

By adding something like Atma in, with its horrifically low drop rates, it's a major step backwards. I don't want to say it's precedent setting but if we as gamers simply except this !^@% and ask for seconds, it will be. That's why every time I see another post complaining about Atma farming on any forum, it makes me happy. The devs need to know. I firmly believe that anyone who defends such a system was one of the "lucky" ones, who got their drops within a reasonable timeframe.

I am not, nor will I ever be. Back when I was more stubborn than I am now, I went 0/106 (100% the truth) on Mee Deggi the Punisher. Some of that stubbornness has stayed with me over the years... and so, I've put in LITERALLY 50+ hours atma farming. I have 4 atmas to show for it.

If they would have made it so you have to complete 50 FATEs in each area I wouldn't have cared. But RNG is lazy, unintelligent, and overall crap design. And if it continues, yes I will unsub. They can make a beautiful world, full of great characters and tons of fun things... but I am at a point in my life where I will simply not tolerate RNG mechanics in a day and age where developers HAVE TO KNOW BETTER.

Now, some shocking numbers for you: I lead a small FC of about 12 people prior to 2.2. Since the patch, one pair of brothers have stopped logging in all together. Not sure the reasons why but I can speculate. 3 of my friends who I encouraged to buy the game have quit DIRECTLY as a result of the atma grind. So now it's just me, my brother, some random girl, and another one of my friends. Literally none of us have the patience to continue to grind atma. None of us log in nearly as much as we used to.

Now, on Brayflox, Soldiery farming, and the link: it's horribly repetitive. There is so much great content in this game, why are we only getting soldiery from 3 dungeons that we've all done to death by now? Why can't we get it from other dungeons? From retainer ventures? From beastmen quests (sorry, a random 3 soldiery doesn't cut it)? From crafting, or gathering? From killing trash mobs? Anything but more brayflox seriously. Let me put this in perspective...

2.2 came out on what, March 27? Let's say it's 4 months till the next patch, which is 16 weeks. If I wanted to cap soldier each week (450) and I was doing brayflox each run, which is the fastest... that's 10 runs a week. So 10 x 16 = 160 brayflox runs. I'm not sure about you, but that seems like a lot of doing the exact same thing again and again... which I can't understand in a game where there are so many other fun things to do. Why not REWARD people for doing other content, rather than spamming one thing?

So, tl;dr: Atma, because of it's RNG is enough to make me quit. Soldiery spam, while boring, isn't... only because I still have hope of better things to come. We'll see what the new expansion brings, but if it's more of the same my time will be going elsewhere.

Edit: Of all of the things to bring in from XI, as other players have said, why bring back crap RNG type content, when there were so many great systems like ZNM and BCNM which would easily be adapted here?

Good post especially the parts I highlighted..
You know it is something wrong too because its allot of people who used to be really high on this game it is not your usual bashers.

You know I loved CT too and it i a another thing I was forced to do way too much.. I was not a big fan of the morons that ran it in the beginning but once they were weeded out it was fun... I am looking forward to the next expansion of CT still...

The problem with standard sidegrades in this game is they'd shortly be obsolete. That's why I think the Zodiak quest is a great addition to the game, because the result is gear that will never be outdated as the iLevel is increased.

That wasn't really an issue in FFXI. The level cap was in place for years, and also gear swapping allowed far more utility from other max-level gear pieces.

If there's anything ARR should take from XI's playbook, it's the Trials of the Magians content... something like that would seem to fit perfectly within the structure of this game.

I agree and it was good filler you could do in your spare time..

One thing though is gear in this game is too short lived. If I was grinding for something I was going to use for a long time it would not be sooooo bad. As soon as you get something it already something better..

People say they wouldn't care if it was a set # of FATEs and you're guaranteed but you have people complaining about the set Myth cost to buy the books and the set monster kills/dungeon object/set FATEs completion of the animus phase.

Not going to make everyone happy and probably no one will like 100 percent of a game. I would rather have a set number than random crap but I still would not be happy running 100 fates because it would get boring and not make me want to ever do fates again.,.. I would rather have it make me do random things to get these atmas and same with tomes. A little bit hear and a little bit there. Tomes were supposed to come from quest has anyone seen any fall from a quest? A few fall from treasure hunting or beat quest but not enough to make a difference...

I like the books too, they are a nice idea but I dont like the fates that take 15 hours to spawn.. there is nothing to do but sit there and wait. Who want to sit and stare at a screen for 15 or more hours.. That is not fun..

I agree. I think the solution is to make the "casual" endgame gear available through various paths, and have it be upgradable... but don't make it the absolute best gear in the game.

The max-level casual endgame gear should be good enough to beat all content. The "hardcore" endgame gear should just have better stats on it... just icing on the cake, kind of like endgame gear in XI was.

That way, casual players can get gear painlessly and not be barred from content, while hardcore players can still pursue the "best" gear without that gear being a gate to endgame content.

You know SOMEPLACE in the bowels of your character data is the total number of FATES you've completed.

Just have an atma drop at least once every 25 fates. If you get an earlier drop, lucky you. But at least that way you could count to 25 and know you're gonna get it by then no matter what.

Ya, there's a counter through the achievements. You get a piece of gear at 3,000 fates.

All I can say is that every single MMO has this problem: it takes years to produce high quality content in video games you burn through in mere hours. How do you keep things interesting in a game that runs for years?

And let's face it, obvious speedbumps are obvious. Atma uses an RNG drop rate, because you'd burn it too quick otherwise (and there's also something addictive about RNGs whether you resent them or not, just take a look at Vegas). Coil 2 has lockouts because you'd burn it too quick otherwise. Soldiery has a weekly cap, or you'd be in full Weathered before the week was out.

Obvious content recycling is also obvious. Tomestones + DR make you run the same dungeons over and over because they couldn't possibly come up with enough of them otherwise. Atma is dropped by FATEs so they don't have to create new battles to drop them.

Such is the hamster wheel of MMO-dom. Repetitive content for intangible and ultimately meaningless treasures. And I keep signing up for it. Smiley: lol
