Saw this on Reddit, knowing what I know about SE after 7 years of grinding out FFXI... I believe it may be real.

Quote:
The jist of it is, there's a zone for Atma farming tied to a time with an hour long window.

I went out to test this, farmed for 35 minutes and nothing. Then I realized I was in the wrong zone (wrong translation). I ported over to Central Thalaan instead of Shroud, and boom, Atma in my first fate.

Player also assumes you can only get 4 Atma every 8 hours. Participation doesn't matter, medal wise.

And the secret formula has been broken. Now we can all be drunk and run atma parties!

Well my question now is, if it's linked to time, why is it that people in parties don't all get an atma at the same time?

Again 100 percent random...
Tes and I ran this side by side most of the time, she is on her second book and I still have only 6 atmas..

I have noticed that when I am in parties, when someone says "Oh, I got it!" and leaves, someone else will almost always get one within 1 or two FATEs. Occasionally it runs a chain. I have also personally observed two people in the same party get one at the same time. And to debunk more myths, I got 8 of mine as black mage, and 2 of mine as paladin. So as long as you have a relic zenith equipped you can get the atma to drop.

There's still RNG involved... but don't put it past SE to do these sorts of things and expect us to figure it out...

They are FAMOUS for that... let me rephrase that... they are INFAMOUS for doing that!

Chances are you have to complete a FATE between the times on that chart for the zone... and THEN you have a chance of getting the Atma.

So not everyone will get it every time during that time.... just a chance of getting it opens up during those windows.

So as long as the quest was opened it can be used for any job with a relic? basically you dont have to be on the job you did the quest on?
I was thinking last night I was running fates and no one else was out there maybe I could switch to my archer which would make it easier than doing it on whm..

My real question is can the atma that dropped on a whm be used for another job etc or is that atma only good for the job it fell on?

My guess is thay can be used on any job with zenith..

My guess is they didnt think that far with this or had the time too.. They can not even get the zones right in the quest and still have not fixed it..
They are just rushing content out.

I can personally say that the above statement is not the case (for me at least) as I got 7 of them in 3 hours (2nd day farming).

Updates based on the thread and my own testing:

FATE times are SERVER TIME. Not Eorzea time, or your local time.

I just got Atma of the Water Bearer as predicted by my third fate in Upper La Noscea at 3:11 AM server time.

Edit: Better translation of the schedule:

Quote:
Atma of the MAIDEN - Central Shroud - 1:00
Atma of the SCORPION - Southern Thanalan - 2:00
Atma of the WATER BEARER - Upper La Noscea - 3:00
Atma of the GOAT - East Shroud - 4:00
Atma of the BULL - Eastern Thanalan - 5:00
Atma of the RAM - Middle La Noscea - 6:00
Atma of the TWINS - Western Thanalan - 7:00
Atma of the LION - Outer La Noscea - 8:00
Atma of the FISH - Lower La Noscea - 9:00
Atma of the ARCHER - North Shroud - 10:00
Atma of the SCALES - Central Thanalan - 11:00
Atma of the CRAB - Western La Noscea - 12:00

Not sure if it was dumb luck or not. I was sick of farming upper and ported to outer and it dropped after. 3 fates. and i didn't catch the time but I just got the Atma of the lion. What would the server time have been at like just before/after 8pm PST?

On Ultros?

ETA I got it from boss Kobold way in by the Titan aetheryte. I did not have to sync down.

My server time was saying that's 5:00 AM I think, which would have made it bull time? I think.

The theory crafting on the thread is that it raises the drop rate during the window, but you can still get one at any time in any zone.

Nope server time and PST are the same. It's 3:34am PST and 3:34 ST right now. Still holds water as I'm pretty sure it dropped right after 8

ETA so let's say I got the lion at 805pm. Also just got the goat. 445am. Also matches the timetable.

Doing FATEs during the window has resulted in 4 atmas dropping after rougly 5-15 mins each.

However in Central Thanalan I did FATEs for the whole hour during the window without seeing a drop.

That's not what the server time said on my in game clock.... Looked more like GMT to me on the east coast.

Strange.

Looks like that guy is saying it's local time... so just look at your clock to decide where to farm... easy as pie... I like pie!

I got the Goat in East Shroud last night on within the window of Kat's schedule, so that makes 11/12. Middle La Noscea is the only one left. Dam you Summerfield!!! Kat's schedule indicated that pretty much I should be FATEing from 11pm-12am my time, so I made it all over there, completed about 15 FATEs and.... nothing.

We talked that Eorzea time might be the answer, but that leaves a three minute window between FATEs, and my experience (in parties) almost always sees one person go "I got it" followed by one or two FATEs and another "Got it" followed by one or two and another "Got it". There is about a 5 minute window between "Got its", but I always pay attention after someone in the party gets one to drop. So Eorzea time doesn't seem to be accurate.

So server time. Let us explore a flaw in server time. What if the XYZ atma drops at server time Y which is 3am for you and you are never up at 3am? You would never be able to get the atma.... So that can't be right either. It has to be random, but the only consistency I have noticed is the one with members of parties getting it around the same time.

Anyway, one to go, makes me happy. I've only spend two frikkin weeks on it. Got my 1500 myth saved, gonna do first book, then speed run myth to get the second, do that, and get my glowy white shield. Then I'll work on the sword at my own pace.

How would this even work? Couldn't you just adjust the clock on whatever system you're playing on to fool it?

Um... doesn't the server know where you're located? At least the account information would indicate your time zone?

Snap back to reality guys. Allowing the local client the ability to store hackable game sensitive information is so.... Phantasy Star Online.

I actually played PSO on the xbox like 10 years ago before I even knew what an MMO was and before I started playing EverCrack.

I actually played PSO on the xbox like 10 years ago before I even knew what an MMO was and before I started playing EverCrack.

Same here man, had a lvl 198 racast at the end. Had beat the challenge mode over and over with my cousin and built our own custom exp mechguns sporting our clan name (the ones that drained xp with their special attack), and used our Hulk controllers (with the turbo button) and a heavy book or some tape to leave our characters overnight with no gear on shooting at these little boxes that would never attack (i.e. Boxtricking), and because we were so undergeared, would never die. Woke up and we had gained 25 levels... And once the game hit XBOX, they didn't care about fixing the game or banning anyone. It was a free for all. People were duping items with action replay and it was literally a game where if you weren't code hacking items, you were duping items, or you knew someone who did. I'm glad that those days are over but they definitely were a lesson in what not to do if you were releasing a MMO.

What kids will do when a game's design is flawed...

On the other hand, they learned from the client side debacle that was PSO and made PSU much more server side. I legitly got my fonewearl to 180 before servers tank and Sega stealth abandoned US shores.

And I'm glad to know that everyone I see wearing high level armor in FFXIV earned it. Makes the items worth something.
