I don't know if this is common knowledge or not but I just discovered a setting hidden in an odd place, something that makes a huge difference in crowded areas. I want to make sure you're all aware of it.
System Configuration > . . . > Display Limits > Character and Object Quantity
I set this on minimum and now instead of getting 25 fps in Limsa, I'm holding steady in the 50's. Nice!

They must have added that in 2.2, thanks for the tip.
They added it around 2.1, but it was set to maximum and you couldn't change it. It was in the 2.2 patch notes, but they didn't go into detail about it.
