It's worth it.

RE: Mirrors -

Yoshi admitted the drop rate is **** because of a system that didn't make it into 2.2 yet they chose not to adjist the drop rate to compensate it. It was mainly done due to WHM/PLD needing 2 mirrors versus everyone else needing 1.

SMNs are not essential at all. I out DPS most on my BLM because many BLMs do not realize what aetherial manipulation can do, especially on Leviathan. If you were to say AoE LB is essential, I would maybe agree if it was a PF group. Most PF groups have a mage, though.

You won't win Leviathan on the first attempt or until you learn how to listen for his position/understand his spinning dive and slam patterns. Even if a DPS is hit by a spinning bubble + one dive, a SCH should easily be able to save them with a lustrate. Doing this on both WHM and SCH this weekend, it really is only stressful for the WHM healing-wise so aetherflow stacks should be up for clutch lustrates.

Having sound up and being able to pan/pick up on patterns will make Levi a breeze.

Black Mage is a blast to run levi ex with. Sprint is my very best friend. I pop it when he jumps, and it wears just after the boat slam, everytime. Right after the two crosses, and just before the boat slam I will run to the middle of the boat and look out over one of the long sides. I listen for the splash. If it is on my side I am facing I look left or right for the splash and run to the other side quickly. If I don't see the splash, then it was behind me, so I watch the rest of the party and see where they are moving, then I follow. Quite easy when you have a party that knows what they are doing. I enjoy tossing a scathe on his head as I am sliding out of the boat slam. Plus I have lethargy to use on the mage add as he pops. and flare to hit one of the two adds and leviathan's head at the same time. Quite satisfying.

And every black mage loves an excuse to use the lb3, especially when they design the middle of the boat to look exactly like our lb3 targeting system.

Many of the relic weapon's stats are not very favorable outside of other jobs. For instance on BLM when ACC isn't an issue, Tidal Wave Staff is superior. When ACC is an issue, Laevateinn is superior. There is also the problem of ACC with BLM in coil that only really good luck on drops will solve or obtaining a Laevateinn. To cap ACC on T6/7 with animus (450 ACC), you need to use suboptimal setups for gear from 2.0/2.1 to offset the ACC loss. It is currently not possible to cap ACC on T8 (470 ACC) with animus and standard gear from 2.0/2.1 unless you acquire gear from 2.2. Stardust Rod Animus is a nice middleground between the two, though.

I'm sitting at INT 499, ACC 453, Crit 500, Det 232, Spell Speed 482 with the following setup. I put my first two upgrades into my tank, so I know I'm about 2 weeks back, but this setup meets the accuracy requirements for T6 nonetheless. Now if I could only get up the nerve to join a farm group and beat T5 without feeling like I'm going to waste a lot of time =D

453 ACC setup:

Wave Staff
AF1 (ilvl 90) Hat coat and belt
Allagan Pants, gloves and boots
Alagan Choker, ears, wrists, ring
Weathered Evenstar Ring

I was actually referring to BLM's method to mitigate the sliding effec with a well timed aetherial manipulation. If done right, you won't slide at all and can continue to DPS like nothing ever happened. This and manawall for slams/spinning dives and manaward for protection against bubble explosions that interrupt casts make BLM super useful.

That said, I will never ever outparse a good SMN on Leviathan. I have been using my SMN more and more lately. My SMN can pull maybe 310 DPS on Leviathan without much work while my BLM caps around 280. My SMN also does not have a tidal wave weapon where my BLM does.

However, you don't necessarily find many good players (of any job). Many SMNs I've come across (just like many BLMs) play subpar and you are able to out perform them as a result. The problem arises when you compare your max potential with one job to one of your other jobs.

Yoshi has recently commented on the poor state BLM is currently in but they don't seem like they will be doing anything to fix it. I am pretty sad, honestly.

While BLM gets the job done in T6-8, it still is a hassle. I don't know if some of you have looked at the T9 video, but one common theme you will see is: a lot of movement. Just go take a look at how crazy this fight is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb3MAb1wg5A&feature=youtu.be

They did the same thing in 11, though. This is a common trend amongst many MMOs, actually. Mages got screwed over quite a bit in WoW, BLMs were screwed over a lot after ToAU and beyond, etc. MNKs excel in all turns of coil currently just how MNKs have excelled in 11 for a long time.

Melee are favored due to their high HP pools that counteract some of the nasty mechanics that require minimum HP requirements (mega flare on T9 for one) and their near 0 downtime.

Let's hope some changes are on the way for BLM to keep us competitive.

The coat is what I refer to as suboptimal as the Evenstar body is BiS: adding both much needed VIT and a nice chunk of INT. It's totally possible to get T6 and T7 accuracy on BLM using animus but you end up using a lot of gear that would not be considered optimal in that particular slot.

For T8 (~470 ACC), here is what you'd need if using animus:

Animus rod
Myth helm
Myth body (suboptimal)
Myth gloves (suboptimal)
Allagan belt
Allagan pants
Allagan feet
Ribbon from moogle
Allagan ear
Myth bracelet
Vortex Ring
Allagan ring of casting (suboptimal)

Stats: 502 INT (really low), 468 ACC (not capped), 459 CRIT (low), 250 DET (low), 485 spell speed (spell speed isn't a main focus for BLMs this patch), and very little vitality.

Puts you at 468, which is not ACC capped and you end up having to use a lot of bad myth gear.

My group killed T8 with 10 seconds till it enraged. 10 seconds. If had made concessions and used 2.0/2.1 gear, we wouldn't have made the check.

Let me just tell you that T8 is one of the steepest DPS walls in the game, currently. A raid wide DPS of ~1700 is needed by 4 DPS strats.

DET and spell speed from the animus are really subpar compared to other animus weapons. Hopefully we will get to customize them in the future.

I've got a fever. And the prescription is.... more DOTs!

You'll hate me for saying this, but I'm just holding on for blue mage Smiley: tongue

The titan ex, garuda ex, and ifrit ex caster's jewelry each have acc. Would it be plausible to use these to fill the gaps?

MOAR DOTZ! STAPH DOTZ!!!

Have you been playing with your SMN lately, Valk? Might be fun to give it a shot in Levi. Multi DOTing the orbs is pretty insane.

You and your blue mage. :P Honestly, it would be pretty neat to see it implemented.

Yeah this is what I had to do, actually, when we were first doing T6.

This is why I would prioritize the evenstar ring and sash if you plan to go the animus route instead of going for the body.

The high allagan legs also drop from T9 so it is a very safe purchase and adds a chunk of accuracy too.
