Intentional or not, the retainers are bringing back endgame items... A friend's retainer on exploration found her an Ifrit's lance. I've seen a screenshot of a Mogblade. Furnishings and house components are coming back. Personally, I've received an inkpot!

I'm not sure that level 50 to 75 weapons are game breaking endgame items anymore, especially with the echo buff making Titan HM so much easier.

Strikes me more as, "Here, have a vanity item!" myself.

At least you're willing to admit it. There are a lot of people here who say they'd quit playing XIV if it went F2P because of the incentives created to push players toward the cash shop, yet they have no problem with SE doing the same in a P2P game. I don't get it.

Exactly..
I remember the battle when this game went P2P ----- OMG no cash shops that is so awsum, not having to pay for in-game items that is so awsume.... Now there is going to be cash shops and those same people are ok with it and think it is awsume.. Damn cheerleaders..

They are combining both models F2P and P2P and that is a fact.

Even Thayos finally admits it here:

Based on this interview, I don't think SE has any real plans to abandon the P2P model, other than adding some cash shop items.

Of coarse they aint abandoning P2P but they are also going to the F2P model on top of it and you just said it.

It wont stop with a few items either.. It is like taxes they only go up and more get added.

He already mentioned to do a mmo it takes allot of money and investors in one of the links someone posted in one of the other threads.

Here is the other problem when you start talking investors, they want their money now and dont care about long term success.

Cash shop != F2P.

We're still paying a monthly fee.

Nah, the game will never truly be F2P, because there will always be a subscription fee... but there very well could be a very lightweight F2P-style cash shop with extremely inconsequential/luxury items for sale.

Payment model is blurred anyway, now that other games have started offering more alternatives in how you experience their games. XIV is still pretty far from F2P though and there are still a few big steps they would have to take. It's just that the steps they're taking don't make too much sense to me. It's their game to develop and distribute as they see fit, but they have a strange way of going about it.

Yoshi is a hell of a repairman, but his salesman skills need work. Nearly nothing he has said regarding F2P vs P2P makes any sense; from the consumer perspective or the business perspective. SWtoR goes F2P, adds half a million players and doubles their monthly profit. A month later Yoshi says "nobody plays it". Half a million nobodies added to the 1.2 million nobodies who already played it. Ok, so... almost 2 million players is a failure, but SE is unprepared just a few months later when half that many try to log into ARR launch? Smiley: oyvey

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

Maybe Yoshi-P's point was that no one from *his* target audience plays it. He'd mostly be right. Remember that SE is interested in luring back in those die-hard folks that wrote their paychecks the last decade in XI, so he's looking at the 2 million in SWTOR and saying, 'yea, it would be nice but that's not my bread and butter, the folks obsessed with chocobos are.' (meaning his home base of JP and the NA that love FF)

I actually started up a subscription last night to see how things are going and I'm super pleased with how incredibly playable the game is now. Hopefully the F2P influence that's sweeping the globe doesn't take over this game. I'd rather they focused 100% on content and put an item or two in the shop than focus 30% effort on items and let content suffer.

I'm a bit confused here. I was under the impression that we have access to two free retainers (which I'm sure most of us have, right?), and then if you wanted to have more retainers, it would cost $2 extra a month for each one past the first two that you have. Is this incorrect?

You will still have your two existing retainers included in your current base subscription but you're right that you will have to pay for any additional.

I don't see how this is a bother to anyone then. Don't pay for them if you don't want to, simply as that. That's the route I'm choosing, and I sure as hell am not going to complain that others might want to have extra space. Extra inventory space does not seem to give any unfair advantages to those that do choose to pay, so I don't see what the problem is.

Being able to send all your retainers out on separate ventures is definitely an advantage, but honestly I'm the type of person who doesn't even log in every day so I'm not too upset about it. Even though I COULD afford the extra retainers, I'm not going to bother. I don't hoard useless things.

I will never beat the latest and greatest in this game. I will never have the biggest house or the most pimped out character with all the relics. And that's okay. I play this game to have fun, not to work. Others can spend 5-6 hours a day (or more) in the game and milk it for every second of content. I have a job and other hobbies that I enjoy, too, and I won't sacrifice the time I spend on those things for a video game.

I'm more annoyed that others have caught onto my money making scheme and I'm not churning out 100K/day like I was at its height. Smiley: bah

I like our FC's little house just fine =) Glad we bought it.

I always wondered how you were making all that money. I capitalized on the glamours, low level crafting materia, and gathering materia, and it has made me some cash (prior to when they tanked). You would be surprised what people used to pay for a glamour dispeller =p.

But I bought the retainers and have worked hard to level them to 50 with the first 1% of the populous. They can farm boarskin now, that's pretty cool. It seems that I am always one day ahead of the price tank, even at lvl 33. The market is being flooded with supply now, and completely destroys some markets, but all in all the low level crafters should rejoice =)

I will never be first to beat the new coil, or first to beat any of the ex primals. I dont have the kind of time that those require. And by time I mean focused time. I have things to do in rl, so I idile my guy a lot. But the coil stuff takes dedicated teams, people on headsets in teamspeak or mumble, and we just dont have a full group yet that is able to do that. I personally wish we were all on PS4 so we could organize that way. I can't get on the headset or chat full time like I used to anyway. I've gotten used to beating titan ex with my wife and kid both asking me questions in the background. And my priority is always wife > kid > game. But as an FC we all bring something important to the table and that is the best thing =). We do have some excellent folks!

Actually since 2.2 went live, my markets have re-opened again and I'm sitting at 1.4 million gil again. Smiley: nod

I make my money carefully. Slow and steady. I price out each component of my synths, and determine whether it's worth it from a time perspective to farm the raw materials versus buying them off the AH, or buying NQ finished ingredients straight from the AH since I can make a guaranteed HQ product from all but the 3-star synths. The influx of cheap materials has been wonderful, coupled with the lack of crafting competition.

I deal mostly in volume, too. The most I think I've sold an individual item for is 13K or so. A lot of my fast movers are mid-level synths that I sell for 3K or 4K each. That doesn't sound like much, but with two retainers selling 40 items at 4K each, if I can sell them daily (and I often do) that's 160K/day. My profit margin on most goods is about 500% or more.
