But here is something someone in my FC pointed out and there was a live letter that came out the same day as the notes.. The live letter says something completely opposite of the notes on how the buff works in BC.. The live letter say the buff is not going to increase by the amount of fails but every couple weeks the buff will increase by like 5 percent. I haven't watched the live letter yet and it seems to have been missed by most. Anyway this is a better idea anyway and I have no reason to doubt the person that told me it. This was for BC he was talking about and not primals. Primals may be completely different. The question is which is right the live letter or the Notes...

Primals are echo buff upon death and will begin in 2.2 (HM get 10% increments up to 50% where EX get 5% increments up to 25%)

BC buff will occur in 2.3 and will be applied in increments over time. (i.e. 10% buff the first week, 10% extra the second, 10% extra the third week up to a set total).

From my understanding then echo buff can be turned off... But why would you want to? Reminds me of the Obama vs Romney election where Romney used funds from super PACs and Obama was against it, then eventually decided that if he wanted to compete he had to use the funds against his wishes. He would have lost if he would not have accepted the funds from the super PACs because they were that powerful of an influence. Bottom line, why shoot yourself in the foot if you don't have to?

Yep that sounds almost exactly about what he said...

This difference is these fights are designed to be won without the echo buff.

Our modern-day political system can't be beat without millionzes of dollarz.

But I agree with the gist of what you're saying... most people will just leave the buff on, and we'll all go about our business.

Just that some people seem to want to make it hard on themselves on purpose for no better reason than for the pain caused by it. I'm all for tackling a challenge. I love a challenge. But I also dot think I should have to rehash the same content at the same difficulty. Once I've got it figured the challenge is won. Puzzle solved. Game won. Now just gimme the gravy. The challenge should be the next thing in line, not doing stuff I've done a bunch of times already. To me that's what the echo buff really does for the majority of players

Now for content I haven't cleared already here's my thoughts: there are exactly 3 encounters I haven't cleared and 1 I haven't seen. I feel I have completed pretty much all of 2.1 there is to complete. I for one would like to get going on turns 6-9 ASAP. If a little Bufferoni is gonna help me and a few of my best pals clear Twintania a little quicker so we can start on the new stuff I'm cool with that.

I don't think the goal of this game is to lock people out of content and this seems to be a pretty solid way of keeping people on a level enough field.

Yeah, that's why I like the concept of the buff... it's a great equalizer to make sure nobody falls too far behind.

I do think a cool addition to the game would be "completionist gear sets" for each version update. These could be once-in-a-lifetime sets given to people who complete content before the echo buff is added to it... or if not entire sets, maybe special completionist weapon/armor skins. I feel like that would be a good, harmless shout-out to the hardcore players who pave the way for the rest of us.

A lot of people seem like they want to, apparently because it hurts their ego to be known as the guy who beat these fights on easymode

Unfortunately they all overlook the fact that all the uber hardcores literally don't care anymore about any of the content the Echo is being added to (or, they won't care after 2.2 hits)

Also, I imagine these people will have a hard time convincing the rest of the party to remove their Echo buffs, meaning they are essentially still winning on easymode, defeating their entire purpose anyway.

Ha ha, no. What will really happen is those armors would be obtained in less than a month, and a month and a day after release everyone else would complain about how they can't get it because elitists this and jerks that and how unfair it is that content is locked behind whatever the flavor of the week term is and it'll just be one more thing to drama over.

It works a bit like the fashion industry. The hardcore players get the rare gear first, show it off, and then everyone else wants to look the same. Then it starts to filter down to the lesser of the hardcore, then to the hardcore of the casual, and next thing you know, the content is made even easier, and everyone looks the same. This, of course, creates the demand for new fashion, which the next patch provides and the trend starts all over again. Smiley: lol

Reminds me of when Rift removed fall damage from the game (an archaic MMO mechanic, I feel) and you had some hardcores raging about how it kills immersion, certain achievements, and super blue moon niche PvP tactics. If they couldn't get it back universally, they instead wanted a toggle.

...as if anyone would actually use it, especially in a party setting.

Or maybe something silly like a little Twintania minion or the like?
