For those of us willing to play through the pain, we got to experience a great storyline that no one else will ever experience.
It's on Youtube.

Only 1.0 players will ever remember how Nophica's Wells used to be identical to Little Ala Mihgo, except the latter had people.

I kind of checked out of this discussion. This all comes down to fanboyism. If Nomura announced tomorrow that Lightning would be a guest character in Final Fantasy XV you would all say that he's a hack. If they reused the exact Magitek design from Final Fantasy VI in Final Fantasy XV you would almost certainly call it distasteful.

But in this instance you're exhibiting an extreme case of post-purchase rationalization. You've spent so much time and money on this game by now. It's been 3 years. Combine the subscription fees together, consider the money you could have made elsewhere instead of playing or defending Final Fantasy XIV on message boards, and we're talking about huge losses. You've become a soldier and Final Fantasy XIV is your castle to protect.

In other words, I'm saying that Thayos has Stockholm syndrome and Naoki Yoshida is his captor.

I think adding a Gold Saucer replica is tacky, lazy, and pretty desperate, but our Dragoons and Monks are already using Cloud's Buster Sword for their Limit Breaks. We don't know why, but they just do. So, moving beyond that, the really desperate thing is the repeated mentions of upcoming Final Fantasy VII replica content without even so much as a screenshot or some concept art.

I have no idea how the topic managed to go back to things like graphic comparisons. Yeah, you can say that version 1.xx had better lighting than 2.xx, "but it's not that bad". I can argue that chopping up the world into instanced zones ruined my sense of immersion, "but it's not that bad". I can also shoot you in the face and, if for some reason you're still able to speak, you could say "it's not that bad". It doesn't really mean anything and you're not even making a real argument.

Maybe it's time we stopped the applause for Naoki Yoshida. Yes, he competently repackaged Final Fantasy XIV and the game is much more fun and playable than it was before. However, we need to begin thinking about raising our standards in terms of what he's doing beyond that. I think so, anyway.

That's your entire post until the last paragraph.

I hope they keep pumping out this kind of stuff to be honest. An MMO should bring forward things that were implemented in previous games while adding original content. You can still use familiarity while having it's own unique thing going for it.

I would love for them to bring Emerald and Ruby weapon from VII and make it a 24 man fight or something ridiculous. Add more tentacles from Ruby with sand pits, etc, could be fun. If they re-use some of this stuff, possibilities are endless!

This is what a lot of the "negative" people have been stating and usually get brushed off as they say it in less of a 'praise everything yoshi does' way. It's just far easier to point out what ISN'T unique or "their own spin" on things offered in XIV, even more so when other MMOs does the standard better, like ESO. Like it or hate it, it's built on the standard platform better than ARR does.

Hell, we still missing features found in 1.23 lol.

The most hilarious thing is when people call "the suckiness" of 1.23 "feature" and then claim ARR "is missing it". E.g. the character moving like a tank.

Hey, that goes with that one EQ clone too.

Sorry for not trusting your most definitely objective judgment on ESO and ARR.

I agree. He did a great job whipping the game into playable shape, but they traded in copy pasta landscape for copy pasta generic MMO flavoring. I know that it can improve over time. I just wish that we'd see more of the future of FF rather than rehash.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

ESO may have the greatest gameplay on the planet but I just can't get past how the graphics look so bad and lifeless so I'll never be able to experience it. Smiley: frown

That's the issue with all ES games and why player mods is usually what makes the game playable unless you truly are a hardcore die hard fan of ES, but given the trend of MMOs this past 5 years or so, it fits right in perfectly and even better, like any MMO it does have it's own set of problems though, but what it does well it does pretty damn good and doesn't try to disguise what it's doing xD.
