I think you misunderstood what I meant when I said 'drive sales'.

Super Mario, Sonic, Metal Gear, Halo, ect.

These are games that drive sales. These are the games that of millions of gamers use to make decisions about which console they're buying, not FFXIV. I cling to scraps of the faith I have left in humanity Catwho. Please don't take them away by convincing me that people would pay more for an untested console than it would cost them to upgrade their PC and get better performance Smiley: frown

I have a very awesome PC and a very awesome laptop. Why can't I have the latest and greatest console too? Smiley: frown

PS4 limitations!

Yeah but the PS4 limitations are more in the way of horsepower that can be remedied with simpler compromises. A lack of RAM is a killer though.

I am also getting a PS4 and Vita for XIV. I want the increased performance and resolution over PS3 (and Remote Play), but I don't have (or want to spend money on) a gaming PC. Only a business-grade, sandybridge laptop with integrated graphics. And there will probably be some PS4 exclusive game that will make me want it later on anyways, like FFXV or KH3.

I'm thinking of buying the PS3 version just to get the upgrade since the ps3 version on sale usually runs for about 15$.

Pretty sure those are both being ported to the Xbone, but so far the PS4 seems to be the more powerful machine of the two, and both seem about equally accessible for developers. PS4 may even hold an edge because of its compatibility with the MMO market.

Discussion on Slashdot on the difference in the tech specs basically explained that Microsoft chose weaker GDDR3 RAM and had to beef up other things to make up for it, which resulted in less room on the die for CUDA cores, which resulted in weaker RAM as well as weaker graphics. Savings per console? $12.

Whereas Sony chose the newer, more expensive GDDR5 RAM, but that allowed them to have less caching and support for the RAM on the die, and to pop in more processing cores as a result. $12 more than Microsoft's solution, but significantly faster and stronger in the end. Sony banked on the price of GDDR5 falling eventually, which it most certainly will.

Saving $100 on it doesn't hurt either...

There's no reason you can't. You can afford it and it's your money, do what you like with it. I'm not suggesting you shouldn't have what you want if you can afford it, but the fact that you can doesn't support everyone else being able to. Latest? Sure. Greatest? Not even close. That's the reason most people wait until the price drops to reasonable and the library supports the investment.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

I'm not sure what kind of reaction I'll get, but I sincerely hope that they do at some point. Giving people free access to the PS4 version is genius and generous. I'd much rather play a game that's held back by PS4 limitations than PS3 limitations. It would really give them a lot more room for development with the power of the PS4 vs the PS3 which is fairly obsolete at this moment hardware wise. By the time this happens, PS4 will probably be $100-200 cheaper than it is and easily obtainable by most. Maybe they'll even revisit seamless zones (please).

Lol it's funny that we've had this in our PCs for a couple years now. Consoles are so behind.

Devs can push locked down hardware much further than hardware setups that are all over the place (gaming PC's). We can't just look at the specs and come to a conclusion based on that information... Companies can do much more with those specs on a console than if a PCs had those specs.

LOL LMAO ROFL ROFFLEZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! Yet PC only MMOs are still way behind even FFXI in terms of design and rarely even survive these days! OH and PSO2 on the Vita has a lot more unique content to it even if it isn't a traditional MMO.

Yeah, having a better memory standard on PC and consoles being behind REALLY shows in the unchanging PC only MMO environment and lower tech Indie games being far superior than Triple A commercial games that has the funds to utilize all the latest and greatest technology ontop of console games actually trying to push genres forward despite being behind.

LOL.

Also no, he stated recently that the current design of ARR is the design they're sticking with so people on low end hardware won't have to worry about missing out if they choose to push computers/consoles harder and force people to buy/upgrade. This is why the DX11 update won't do much as per Yoshi's own words.

I can list a few MMOs on PC that have more players than FFXI and are more advanced in terms of design. I don't know where you're getting this from.

PS what? I don't know anything about PSO2 as it was never released in the states.

LOL.

Is this some kind of passive aggressive mouthful of sarcasm? All I said was that consoles are behind on hardware and that PCs have more room for MMO development. How can you even argue with that? PCs can be upgraded and built, consoles can not (yet).

Also no

No to what? No to dropping PS3 support?

Is that why they're suddenly and clearly planning on dropping PS3 support?

I never said anything about unique features. Yoshi said that with his use of the example involving the fate with the flying dragon. He said that, not me. The fact is, if they want to continue to push the boundaries of the game in size and graphical capability, PS3 needs to be dropped.

As much as I think that could happen, we can't draw the conclusion that it's a certainty... at least, not from the interview in the Reddit discussion.
