Hello everybody, I'm new to the community and this is my first time playing a final fantasy game. My boyfriend, who is out of town for an extended period of time recommended me to try Final Fantasy XIV when it comes out on l the PS4. I have already preordered the game and I'm now just waiting for the April 4 release date. Does someone have tips for a girl new to the franchise?

Welcome to the community. You are most welcome.

First question I would ask is;

"Have you played vids before?" Secondly, "Have you played an MMO before?
I have been finding that the best way to experience this game is via finding a solid Free Company (group of ppl who play together).

I am currently teaching my gf to play and she has loved it so far. There are two real solid FC's that have been created by the ZAM community and they both will do anything to aid in your new adventures.

Our's is Kraken Club. We are on Ultros server. Hit me up if you decide to create a character on that server. Good luck to you regardless…. My name 'in-game' is in my sig….

R.O.

PS. I heard "Loot Whoring Drama Fest (LWDF)" isn't that bad either ;)

I'm kidding of course. The best place to start is probably the sticky that LebargeX put together. You can click this link to get there. It's got a lot of info about the mechanics of the game. You might also see if you can get in with the forum's official FC(group of players who do events and help each other out). That's a good a place as any to start.

The thing that's hooked me and my wife on both FFXI and FFXIV is the community, especially the group that you end up spending most of your online time with, which is a Free Company in this game. I'm not part of the ZAM FC as I'm on a different server, but I've been around these forums for many years and will vouch for any FC that is set up here.

FFXIV is REALLY strong in helping new players get their feet wet. It'll guide you through a lot of the basics and hold your hand for a while until you feel comfortable with branching out. From there, your FC and obviously your willingness to browse forums and info online will take over.

If you by some chance end up on Balmung, I've got a FC (mIsFiTs) with a bunch of people who mostly have known each other for years and love helping new players acclimate to the game and accomplish their goals. We're a smaller group, typically 5-10 on at a time, but consider everyone family and have a mix of male/female gamers, along with a range of ages too.

Bottom line, find a group that you truly feel comfortable with, it'll enhance your experience x10

Oh and welcome to Eorzea! :)

What you want to do as a female player is make a male character.
That MMORPG first will send waves throughout the community and you'll be famous the world over.

Also, if you already have the Ps4, the Beta starts this weekend. So you should be able to try out the game and dip your feet in.

This is a game where character customization, crafting, gathering, and collecting items are just as important as experiencing the real time battles and strategy some of the high level instances have to offer. This is a game where you can really find your niche, dig in, invest, contribute, and be rewarded. The social interation aspect is well done, and there are good and bad people (as is life).

All in all, a great way so spend your free time.

Yes I have played video games before. Most frequently on cell phone, computer, PS3 and PS4. Games I've frequently played are: Call of Duty, Sound Shapes, DC Universe Online, Ultima Online, Clash of Clans and Neverwinter to name a few. Thank you so much for all the info. I'll be sure to try and get into a good group when I get in the game :)

Not a first. I know quite a few who have done this to avoid getting hit on. Smiley: laugh

I considered it myself, actually.

The only chicks in MMOs I've seen get 'hit on' are the ones that broadcast the fact they're chicks in the first place. And even then how bad can it actually be? It's just a few douchebags in a chatroom. Just /ignore them.

The leader of my dyna shell in XI was a female who played a male character. I don't think she liked me too much because I always referred to her as 'dude'. Then again, the sexes were already blurred in that game with as many men as there were playing mithras...

Video game harassment can be distracting, sometimes at critical moments. I pitched an absolute fit when someone started teabagging my dead Tarutaru in Crawler's Nest in FFXI. Ended up calling a GM for harassment and everything.

At least if someone cat-calls me in real life I'm not in the middle of trying to cure the main tank. Smiley: rolleyes

My girlfriend and I played our opposite genders in FFXI.

In XI, I really didn't get hit on much. Got some polite interest, but nothing objectionable in the slightest, in all the years I played.

And then in XIV, while in the middle of trying to double mooch my FSH class quest, some boy miqo'te stood right into my personal space and started hitting on me hard right as I was starting a first stage mooch. I just blew him off, a lot more politely than I should have done since I was about to Return anyway.

I've come to the conclusion that there are no manly miqo'te males. They're all boys, NPCs and PCs both.

But Verdha Tashon doesn't swing that way anyway. Ever since U'rahtalo hit on her, she's been hanging out with the girls in the hot spring. Smiley: inlove

Hate to break it to you Joe, but Baraiza has several male characters in multiple games... >.>

PS. Welcome to Eorzea MissEpicone, I hope you enjoy the game and the people. Smiley: grin

No "tips" really, just don't feel like you need to go out of your way to tell everyone "I'M A GIRL GAMER!!!" every other minute. It's somewhat less interesting than some might have you think. I'm a girl playing a male Miqo'te by the way.
