PS3 to PS4 transfer
The transfer service is scheduled to begin Friday, April 11th, 2014. Please be aware that after transferring to the PS4 you’ll be unable to play the PS3 version using your existing copy. Users who wish to play using both the PS3 and PS4 are required to purchase the PS4 version separately. Users who own multiple service accounts for the PS3 can transfer all accounts to the PS4. Users transferring their accounts will have access during the early access period, scheduled from April 11th to the 13th. Please note: to transfer your PS3 account, you must have logged into it from a PS3 at least once.

I was hoping you'd be able to flip flop between both systems free of charge, but it looks like not.

So shiny. Not only will the PS4 version look better, it's also packed wiwth enhanced features, like mouse and keyboard support, use of the Dualshock 4's touchpad, and remote play on the PlayStation Vita.

If I stick around for FFXIV, a PS4 wouldn't be a bad investment for mouse/keyboard support alone. I really don't like playing with the controller. Movement is great, but there are too many abilities for it to be comfortable. You just can't hit the D-pad options without sacrificing movement too much.

Not sure this is what's giving PC the edge. I mean you can play on mulitple PS3s for no additional charge too.

Or one could say I play on my (weaker) laptop and more powerful desktop =)
I guess PC is upgrade safe where consoles are not.

Let's say I buy a PS4, and a PS4 version of FFXIV. I register my account to the PS4 and join in the Beta with my main character.

Then what?
The progress in Beta is saved to my character right?
The Beta servers are wiped and progress is lost?

Not really clear.

I would have thought the same but in reality it makes sense. If you want to play on the PC, you need a PC copy. If you want to play on the PS3, you need a PS3 copy. Two separate systems, need two separate copies. PS4 is a new, different system, same concept. I know they are transferring you to the PS4 from the PS3 but I guess they view it as if your PS3 copy is now your PS4 copy and you need to replace your PS3 copy. I guess that's how they see it. Now that I write that, they should allow us to go back and forth if we got a release date copy at the very least. Hmm...

Beta Info

Phase 1: February 22nd to March 3rd.
Phase 2: April 4th to April 7th.
Japanese Standard Time assumed for all dates.
The beta will be accessible for everyone with a PS4, and directly downloadable from PlayStation Store.
There will be a character wipe after phase 1.
Players who made their character in beta phase two will be able to bring this data to the retail version.

PS3 and PC players of FFXIV will be able to transfer character data to the PS4 (please note that this is only necessary for the beta — in the retail version, all players will play on the same servers).

This still doesn't make any sense, sorry.

So I bring my character over and they wipe it at the end of Phase 1? I think not.

You can't transfer PC characters over in Phase 1? You can? It's a new server? What happens to my character on my actual server during this time? Is he gone? Saved somewhere else?

What if I progress on PS4 during Phase 1. Than go play on PC the next day? Will I have the progress? The server is separate? Will I have two copies of my main character during Phase 1? On different servers? Is Phase 1 just a snapshot of character progress that gets wiped?

I would like to buy a PS4 and play in Beta to give it a whirl but I'm not gonna play in phase 1 if that time is just wasted. Sounds to me like I should wait until Phase 2.

Than again, PS4's don't have solid state drives. Don't think I can go back to the load-ages.

Phase 1 you play on a separate beta server and all info will be wiped.

Phase 2 the way I understand it is for new ps4 users their character will be saved.
Existing PS3 users and windows users will be able to use their existing characters if they want too..

Beta Test Phase 2

During beta test phase 2, players have the option to participate using pre-existing characters from the Windows and PlayStation®3 versions. Furthermore, testing will be conducted on public Worlds. All newly created characters can be created on a data center and World of your choosing, and will carry over to official service after the beta test has concluded.

I dont think load times will be a issue, they would be the same as a pc and not the ps3. Of coarse a solid state drive is faster and the ps4 I believe can be upgraded like the ps3.

Ok, totally got it now. Thanks!

April 4th is the target day for PC players looking to try out the PS4 version (Phase 2 start date).
