Digital Storm L1 and FFXIV: ARR (XPost from CompHardware)Follow

#1 Jan 25 2014 at 3:47 PM Rating: Default
I'm shopping for around PC as I'm incredibly sick of how limited Mac systems are. I don't have an incredibly high budget, so I was checking out Digital Storm's stuff. This works in my price range, but I was wondering if it would be able to play Final Fantasy XIV: ARR smoothly on higher graphical settings. Spec checks always confuse me and no one in the computer hardware and trouble shooting section seemed to want to help me out.

Specs:
- NVIDIA GTX 650 1GB
- Intel Core i3 4330 CPU
- 8GB 1600MHz Memory
- 500GB 7200RPM HDD
- ASUS H81 Chipset Motherboard
- 430W Corsair CX Power Supply
- DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW
- Microsoft Windows 8.1

No, I do not want to build my own computer, I'd more than likely ***** it up!

Not sure how much it costs so I can't say whether or not it's worth it, but it'll run XIV well at medium settings. I'd shoot for an i5 processor if it's possible to upgrade. XIV is CPU intensive, but everything else looks alright.

Thank you for the response! I don't need to run it on UBER settings, so medium works fine for me! :)

I just ordered a GTX 650 1G they're bundled with a FF14 trial starting on the 27, so that should work well. If you can find the benchmark thread you'll see Intel cpu get higher scores all around.Smiley: smile

Avoid Windows 8 like the plague. It's an abomination upon the world of computing and should be dealt with as such. Intel and Nvidia are slightly better than their AMD counterparts, but you pay a lot more money for what you get. You definitely get more bang for the buck out of AMD hardware. Also, that power supply will barely run that system. If you ever decide to upgrade components, you're going to be buying a better one.

Although you say you don't want to build your computer out of fear of ******** it up, keep in mind that it is considerably easier than assembling Ikea furniture. Smiley: lol

About the only dangerous part is placing the CPU onto the motherboard, and there's a thousand video tutorials out there on how to do that (and the motherboard instruction book is usually very clear on that too.) Everything else is Insert Tab A into Slot A and Insert Tab B into Slot B, in which Tab A cannot fit into Slot B so you'll never mix them up.

Wow that power supply I missed that, always stay above 500 or 550 if you could. I learned the hard way years ago you'll get random hardware errors you can't pinpoint if you go long term with bare minimum power. The tiny 640 and 650 cards say 400 watts and lower , but stay above 500 to run any card and know you can handle any add on later. I'm a 630 and 650 watt person for my AMD cases. I'll know soon if a 400watt card can run this game.Smiley: smile

GTX 650 systems don't draw that much power. He'd be hard pressed to draw more than 250w without adding more than the normal components a PC needs to power. Nothing wrong with being on the safe side, but he's got about 200w overhead already.
