It could be like the "wanted target" that appears during your leves. You're moving along in the dungeon and suddenly "A wanted target has appeared in the dungeon."

And if it spawns in a point that a group has already cleared, it might give you a bit of an incentive to backtrack.

Might disrupt speed runs, though, where you just ignore half the mobs and hit the elevator. Smiley: laugh

This is exactly what popped into my head when I read his post too. And if the coffer the NM dropped had tomes in it, you can bet people would go back for it. It could be a random reward chest, just like the treasure maps, but with a better gear drop of course.

Oh that'll be cool. I always feel these dungeons to be interesting in landscape design but I feel that we never really make use of some of the rooms. I think the back-tracking idea would be an excellent motive.

Instead of Treasure Hunting, they could call it Mark Hunting... there could even be achievements tied to it, or they could tie it into GC's, or both, or any other number of other things.

The spawns could even be triggered by something like... WHM takes no damage during. King Tonberry then queen Tonberry spawns or what have you

Variable events in dungeons could work, but this leaves me questioning how difficult they'd actually be. Keep in mind, these would people outside the "arenas" that bosses have, which means the environment won't be so cut and dry for positioning or fairly allowing mechanics. The prospect of kiting something a significant distance just to find a more favorable spot doesn't really appeal. On the other end, if there's no mechanics or other special gimmicks, just making them named mobs with higher HP and perhaps some other boosted stats doesn't seem like... very much or worth it. Perhaps even too rewarding if the chest pay out is okay. This also tickles my concern that dungeons are relatively too rewarding compared to open world activities.

In the end, it might be something worth revisiting once other aspects of the game are brought up to speed or improved. Yet, I suspect this might better suit dungeons where it's a consideration from the dungeon's inception and not an afterthought. Such could lead to things like forking paths or even different bosses later on.

Dungeons are in a good spot right now. To go back on the changes that were made would force everyone back into FATE Zerging and we all know how Blah that was. No matter how you slice it this isn't FFXI and a majority of the content is Instanced.

Placing an NM doesn't need to have an Arena like other bosses. Your party could or could not have cleared enough of the trash to meet the positional requirements to engage it. However if that NM has the opportunity of dropping 50 ToM I guarantee you'll find a way to clear the trash beforehand.

EXP wasn't my concern. It's more along the lines of independent gil generation and equipment quality, which FATEs basically lack. As well, when I talk about open world stuff, I'm also including crafting, gathering, and questing.

There's no way both of these statements can be true. You're not buying myth, or getting allaghan drops? You're not helping the general perception that you're just here to troll.

A lot of good ideas in this thread.

How about Ver 1.0 NM's? They dropped very good mid-level gear and were fast pop with a decent drop rate. I thought it worked well.

If you hit 35 WHM you would just go camp such-and-such for less than an hour and get the staff. Then when your friend hit 35 you would know where to go. I can't recall any NM that had BiS items, so it wasn't serious bizness.

But then later in the thread adding more 50+ content came up. Let's do that instead.

Well while youre trying to pick apart and find contradictions in m,y posts find te part where I said I AM doing the things you listed in the first quote? No IM not at that point yet but i know LOTS of others that are, and I dread its arrival. I mean technically heck I just said I have relic +1 and full DL, so if it werent for the fact that Im lvling two more jobs to 50 I WOULD be at that point, after all what else is there to do after relic + and full DL except for one week lockout stuff?

Ive been at the point of "logging in one day a week then not playing gain cause there was nothing to do until the following week" point before in other games (DC universe online) and hated it, which is why I quit after 8 weeks. But i didnt complain about it because it was a free game... that would be like someone giving me free food and I complain about the way it was made or the fact that its not the kinda food i want, it was givin to me for free thus I have no right to complain I'd just have to either eat what was given to me or not eat at all. However I expect better from something that Im giving money to every month, so until FFXIV either goes F2P, adds so much content tat even with one week lockouts its gonna take you close to a week to do it all anyway, or get rid of their artificial roadblocks altogether (which is ironic because isnt this exactly what exp "fatigue" in 1.0 was? An artificial way to make its do that ppl could progress (i.e level up) too fast? yet that got rid of that sooooooo) i will continue to complain.
