Too many makers, not enough takers!

Crafting isn't dead, though... it's just not a way to make easy money. However, people who craft can still make more gil than people who don't. You just can't express to push a few buttons and watch the gil roll in.

Also, someone else said this a long time ago, and I feel this comment was spot-on... but crafting isn't just about making money, but also about saving money. It's actually pretty easy to make a steady stream of gil in this game... and if you can reduce your expenditures, the money does add up over time.

Over the past week I realized that repairing my gear can save me money if the cost to fix it is over 80 gil. You can see the quick repair cost on your equipment. The level 5 item to do repairs is 80 gil.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

Or the Dark Matter simply cost you the seals that you get anyway every day from dailies, FATEs and roulettes. Makes hitting the mender a complete convenience cost instead.

quite a lot of money in crafting, but not solely limited to crafting.
spiritbinding, leve quests, maps are all quite good.
atm I make about 190-220k/day from retainer sales, but when I finish leveling my gathering alts, expect that to rise quite sharply.
i can see why some people might be turned off, it's much more a methodical process to profit from crafting now - more work, less fun to some.
not easy money like it was in the first month or two, in large chunk sales.
but I really enjoy crafting, the grind aspect, & being able to find ways to make money, excited for personal housing.
might end up just buying a guild house for myself though, i guess it'll depend on how much customization they allow personal vs guild housing.

Crafting, by all intends and purposes, is DEAD in Final Fantasy XIV.

For all intents and purposes...it isn't dead. just not nearly as lucrative as it once was. you can still make gil.

you actually provided evidence for this yourself:

Quote:
make myself an essentially free HQ piece opposed to having to buy it off the AH for 5k.

hmm, if only there were a way to be the person SELLING that piece on the AH instead of the person crafting it for personal use.

There is. It's called undercut the other 5 sellers and hope you don't get undercut back before the next buyer comes along.

My crafting career didn't start at level 50. It started at level 1. I've made money constantly on every level range after level 15, which I find a sensible approach because what's the point of crafting otherwise? What I know is that if I had *skipped* the whole game and only tried to make money at level 50 I would have been miserable.

The journey is what matters, not the destination. It's much more fun to make money AND get levels while challenging oneself on HQ's than grind fast to 50 and only then make money. So what if I could make more money in theory at level 50 if that would make me bored to tears?

yeah, luckily you can make gil while leveling crafts. maybe not a ton, but enough to at least break even if not profit. and yes, you have to undercut and re-post stuff daily (probably more frequently than daily but i have no patience/time for that)
