Nice, thanks for the tip Gnu. I'm working FSH and MIN up to 21 before I go back to BTN, but I'll definitely grind millioncorn when I go back to BTN. After I gather whatever is needed for the level 25 BTN quest, that is.

I would also suggest looking for Cornmeal on the MB... It's usually super cheap and you can 'buy' levels FAST to get you through the doldrums. If you have lots of allowances it's really handy....

Lol, I was questioning my own estimate of time as well. It was like one episode of American Horror Story. That's what 45 minutes?

Just love that Quick synthesis EXP increase!

Here's another tidbit for Leveling Botanist off of Gathering Leves:

Quote:
Leve Locations!!!

Botany Leve Locations - * Must unlock leves of each camp via War or Magic initial leve.

Level 1: The Bannock - Central Shroud (23, 19)
Level 5: The Bannock - Central Shroud (23, 19)
Level 10: Bentbranch Meadows - Central Shroud (22, 22)
Level 15: The Hawthorne Hut - East Shroud (17, 27)
Level 20: Quarrymill - South Shroud (25, 20)
Level 25: Quarrymill - South Shroud (25, 20)
Level 30: Costa Del Sol - Eastern La Noscea (32, 30)
Level 35: First Dicasterial Observatorium of Aetherial & Astrological Phenomena - Coerthas Central Highlands (26,28)
Level 40: Whitebrim Front - Coerthas Central Highlands (12,16)
Level 45: Saint Cornach's Find - Mor Dhona (30,12)

For Botanist, the Leves the give bonus EXP for exceeding the gathering goals are almost double EXP. For that reason, I would always complete 1 Leve at a time and return to the NPC to see if the available quests had changed to the on I REALLY wanted. I highlighted my favorites below.

Level 20:Quarrymill-The Black Shroud
---South Shroud (25, 20)
Nowhere to Slide
Shaken, Not Stirred
Just the Artifacts, Madam
Fueling the Flames

Level 25:Quarrymill-The Black Shroud
---South Shroud (25, 20)
Over the Underbrush
Moon in Rouge
Appleanche
Mushroom Gobblin' (This one sucks, Gobs aggro, need Stealth)

Level 30:Costa del Sol-La Noscea
---Eastern La Noscea (32, 30)
The Palm in Your Hand
Nature Calls
Bleeding Them Dry
Always Right

Level 35:Sanctum Aetherial Astrological Phenomena-Coerthas
--Coerthas Central Highlands (26,28)
Catch My Drift
A Stash of herbs
Salad Days All nodes in one place, very fast
Spear of Heaven

Level 40:Whitebrim Front-Coerthas
---Coerthas Central Highlands (12,16)
Straight and Arrow
This Old Fort
Plague on Both Our Forests
Sign of the Crimes

There are also GC manuals which award similar bonus xp for gathering as with crafting. Survival Manual iirc. This manual bonus STACKS with rested bonus for gathering. So, I would grab a manual, use it, grab a 2nd, and head for the levemete immediately after loggin in. By doing this, you're getting HUGE xp numbers (300% for the last 2 swings if you chain all 6)during the leve as well as the actual leve reward.

Holy nutsacks, I just realized something!!

Quote:
Levequest - True Grits
-Cornmeal (x6)
Limsa Lominsa
-13,887 XP

And it's a multiple turn in!!! I still have some 600+ something Corn Powder from the Millioncorn Quicksynths.

This Crafting Leve List is super awesome!

Most user friendly format of all the lists I've seen.

YES! The only saving grace for crafting/gathering right now is the HUGE EXP numbers are making it fun. I'm a sucker for big numbers.

That's what has me loving fishing right now. I got almost 4k exp for a single HQ fish last night, and my fishing was only level 15 at the time.

I'm going to have to grind out some GC seals to buy manuals with. I only have about 5k right now and I'm not even max rank with my GC yet. Looks like some CNJ levelling is in my future, or at least a daily guildhest roulette on my PLD.

So...

I take it from the responses that people still don't know that Cornmeal is a vendor item in Gridania from the miller?
#60 Jan 10 2014 at 8:36 PM Rating: Excellent
Oh yeah?

Hmm, 57 gil.

57x6 = 342 gil for 13,887 EXP

From level 30-40 is 2,290,520 EXP

2,290,520 / 13,877 = 165 turn ins.

165 x 342 = 56,450 gil to level 30-40.

Worth considering. Or you can gather 165 turn in x 6 meal = 990 meal, which means (3 corn per 4 meal) ~750 millioncorn. About 8 stacks? Maybe an hour or two.

But then also you need around 750 fire shards. Hmm.

Thanks for the tip. Too bad I'm too broke to save myself some time using it.

Don't forget that you get gil for completing each turn in.

Edit: Just checked in-game. I'm being offered 172 gil. It tends to vary by a few gil every time you accept the quest, like the shard/item reward. That cuts the cost in half right there.

He doesn't sell lovingly hand crafted high quality corn, though.

And that stone ground milled stuff doesn't have the lovely aftertaste of ozone like proper crystal shard ground corn. Smiley: nod

Wow, the last two hours have been enlightening to say the least.

32-50 Culinarian since my last post.

I think I have underestimated the value of Leve Allowances + HQ turn ins.

I didn't get any work done on any of my crafting classes this weekend. I unlocked fishing Thursday morning, and if you'll pardon the pun, I dove right in. Went from not having fishing unlocked on Thursday morning, to 46 fishing when I logged off last night. Once I hit 50, I'll probably switch over to botany, which is currently at 21. I'll probably grind out a lot of 20-25 botany by gathering millioncorn to use when I start working on culinarian again. My plan is to get all of my DoL classes to 50 and stockpile as many materials as my retainers can hold. If they fill up, I may have to take a break and do some crafting just to make space for higher level materials.

By my estimate, and I mean i got three crafts from 30 to 50 over the weekend in a few hours, 10 HQ turn in of the single turn in courier(They give the max exp/HQ) leves will get you 5 levels or ~2 turns ins per level how ever you like to math.

This would be great if it didn't cost more in teleporting fees than you make from the leve. I'm not interested in "buying" levels, no matter how cheap they are.

I understand wanting to do it all yourself.

If you are leveling a craft of any kind you will sooner or later be forced to realize that Money = Time. So you are buying the levels no matter how you accomplish it. Raising your money/time rate becomes the game you are trying to play.

For example, you start FFXIV where spending 30 minutes for 1000 gil seems ok. Then, if you are focused on raising money, you want a minimum of 5k per hour. Then 10k per hour. Translated to leveling you want at least one level per hour. But then you attain 2 in an hour, or 3, or 4. Or you find a way to make 20,000 in an hour, or 30,000.

Then one day you realize you can level 32-50 in 4-5 hours using a total net expenditure of around 50k. At this point, you aren't going to say, ya but I like doing it the slow way, let's go back to 1000g per 30 minutes. At this point you have already done it the slow way for 40+, maybe 100+, hours. You have earned the right to buy your levels by spending time raising money.

That point being that over-time, the bar gets higher and higher for what rate of accomplishment is satisfying.

Check this out.

Mostly I did this by running form the Limsa Leve NPC (upper Limsa) and Bango Zango (lower level Limsa).

I bought:
HG Ginger Cookies
HQ Jerked Beef
HQ Dark Vinegar
HQ Acorn Cookie
HQ Knight's Bread
HQ Deviled Eggs
HQ Mulled Tea
and some others, but I only got like 2-3 at a time so I could see when the EXP/time was not worth it for each level. Actually, some I just made myself.

For each item that cost 1,000 for the HQ, the turn in would give me around 750gil reward.

I would also travel to Coerthas and Costa Del Sol sometimes for turn-ins. It's was worth it because of the crazy HQ turn-in EXP rate. Sometimes upwards of 200K exp for a single turn-in.

Yeah, I'm doing leves, but I don't see myself ever buying the items already crafted to just turn them in. Although you can be damned sure I'm selling my extras. Part of the reason I won't buy the items is that I'm still learning the crafting mini-game and have not yet been able to regularly HQ any recipe. That may change when I get a few more levels of WVR and Careful Synthesis joins the ranks of my cross-class skills.

The other reason is, I don't consider it a race, especially for the crafting classes. I'm just enjoying the journey to 50 on those classes. Getting my PLD to 50 was a race, because there's an end-game to participate in and more time spent at end-game means more rewards. There's no end-game for crafting classes other than being able to craft the ** recipes. But I only have 1 DoW/DoM class over 20 currently, so I don't even need those pieces of gear yet.

Having leveled each of the crafts to 15 on one character (and used them all), when I decided to craft on my Main character I selected the following level 15 abilities as the must-haves:

Weaver - Careful Synthesis - Improves Progress. Efficiency 90% Success Rate 100%
Leatherworker - Waste Not - Reduces loss of durability by 50% for the next 4 steps. (56 CP cost)

Alchemy- Tricks of the Trade - Restores 20 CP. Can only be used when condition is good.
Culinarian - Hasty Touch - Improves Quality. Efficiency 100% Success Rate 50% (0 CP cost)
Armorer - Rapid Synthesis - Improves Progress. Efficiency: 250% Success Rate: 50%

Waste-not is the one that lets you get the most steps per synth. The last three are good but not essential at first. This is the order I slot the cross-class as I level up.

(Some would probably put Rumination in there. I didn't get that on my Main, but it may deserve a spot high on the list.)

Yeah, I'll slot Waste Not and Careful Synthesis before anything else. Right now I'm working on WVR. Currently level 12 and I'm just going down the crafting log making each thing 1 time. So far that and all of the hemen thread and undyed hempen cloth I've needed to make and the class quests to this point have gotten me to 12.

I leveled Weaver and Leatherworker first, so I messed around with using Waste Not a bit. Once I leveled Culinarian and Alchemist and mixed in Steady Hand, Hasty Touch and Tricks of the Trade, Waste Not started to lose it's efficiency. When Waste Not is up, you only want to not use one single turn of Waste Not on actions that don't consume durability the entire crafting attempt. If you put up Steady Hand first and then Waste Not, you've just spent 75 CP for 4 turns of both buffs. If you get a good proc during those 4 turns, you can use Tricks of the Trade to get back 20 CP. But You also waste 75/4=18.5 CP (13.25 CP from Waste Not) by not making use of Steady Hand + Waste Not that turn. It's still a net gain in CP, but a very small one.

Master's Mend and Master's Mend II isn't a buff, so you don't run into the same issues with wasting CP like you might with Waste Not. Because of that, I wouldn't suggest devoting a cross class ability slot early on toward Waste Not, especially if the next couple of abilities you add is Tricks of the Trade and Hasty Touch. If you're going to be doing Steady Hand + Hasty Touch with Tricks when you get a good proc, it's better to rely on Master's Mend II (or Master's Mend before lvl 25).
