What is it that has you so emotionally attached to a character at this point to make the decision in your heads "You know what, this is an MMORPG I plan on playing for years and years with my friends, but I simply CANNOT be ***** to make a server change after a couple weeks so that I can move to another server and actually play this game with the friends I originally intended to enjoy this game with."
Just putting on my snarky hat, but I would venture to guess it's the same mentality that has a portable personal computer that can beam a satellite and hit a server, downloading movies real-time to said personal computer from a server on the opposite side of the world while simultaneously playing a game that connects to a different server in a different part of the world. We're all guilty of it, it's just the world moves so fast we take all that for granted.
On that same note, there's no glory in software development. The only time you really get noticed is when something bad happens. sure the top level designers like Yoshi get all the credit, but the devs themselves, and their IT counterparts are slaves to the grind...
