Aaaah and after I just spent MINUTES beautifying this baby.

Maybe the Arcanist is Summoner? I mean why else would Carbuncle be with the ARC? Maybe the SMN is something else? I know it's wearing what looks like a SMNs horn, but that Carbuncle seems out of place. It wouldn't be a complete surprise to me if this time around we summoned from a book. =)

Yes, Arcanist is the class, Summoner is the job.

So, to me, it looks like the possible picture of Scholar is actually Arcanist. I know it goes against the conventions of the photo though, as it would be the only class there.

But, from an image design perspective, they are in the same position in the circle, mirrored, and in similar body positions. And they are the only 2 new classes known so...

The only other possibility is that Arcanist will wield a different weapon. Notice that the summoner is the only one empty hands (aside form monk but the hands are their weapon lol).

Then 3 O'clock can't be Arcanist. Going off this, ARC(unconfirmed) is the prerequisite(30) to SMN, and if the foreground is Jobs and not classes, then what makes SCH? Can see SMN relies on books as well. Maybe ARC is a Sub-prerequisite(15) to SCH?

Originally Final Fantasy 3 (NES), and it's primary ability was to Scan enemies. It was made a little better in the DS remake, where it got an innate Enhance Item Potency ability, but for what it's worth the job has been on the weaker end of the spectrum before XI.

Maybe it's so that ACN doesn't just go to SMN, maybe SMN will be ARC + THM and SCH will be ACN + CON or vice versa?

Considering they will release new jobs down the line that may have overlap with existing classes for prerequisites, it's not so left field to believe ARC can branch into both SMN and SCH. In XI SCH never sat well with me. I only got it to around 60 or so. I couldn't distinguish myself between BLM, WHM or RDM at all. I remember doing manaburns in the WotG zones and feeling terribly out of place. So if the pic is in fact SCH, I'll be on the fence about it until we hear more.

It's also possible that some of the jobs we're hoping for could come from a mix of jobs or even jobs and classes.

For instance:

RDM = WHM + BLM + Gladiator lvl 30

BLU = WHM + BLM + Arcanist lvl 30

NIN = DRG + BLM + Archer lvl 30

GEO = BLM + Arcanist lvl 30 + Botanist lvl 40

The way they have it set up, there's a pretty staggering amount of options you could have. If someone has a calculator that does permutaions on it, maybe they could figure it out for us :)

Yeah, if (when) they increase the level cap, we could have "advanced" jobs incoming that build on the existing jobs. There were level 99 mobs around in 1.0, and the original cap in XI was 50 a long time ago.

This was exactly my thinking as well. I meant to add the word advanced to my post, and got distracted lol

I'm not going to lie, this.... excites me Smiley: tongue

Seeing that leveling is not as cumbersome as pre-abyssea FFXI, I would love a Tactics-esque job system.

Hmm.. Doesnt WHM and BLM use the same type of weapon? If so, couldnt CNJ and SMN both use books? Just a thought..

It seems like such a no-brainer to point it that way huh?

I mean they already kind of do it that way. I don't see why they couldn't just expand out from where it already is.

As for the weapon issue you could make slight changes to the weapons so that they're still specific. SCH could have a tome of knowledge while summoner uses a history of the primals. A simple palate swap and maybe an extra animation loop and bam there ya go.

People in "other forums" seem to think this is unanimously Scholar. They point to the fact that the quality of the gear is "clearly" af level, it's in the jobs ring, and it has the same shoes, thigh highs, hat and skirt as classic scholar.

I don't know.. it could be. That book could be the Scholar relic, someone else found a face on it.

I guess my question is this: Out of all the jobs in FF history, with their varying levels of utility and popularity, why would SE choose to "surprise" us with SCH??

I thought BLM used a staff, while WHM used a wand. I may be wrong. Regardless, the books would need different names, like some have pointed out up-thread. Book of <insert term here>, Tome of <insert term here>, etc. If the class/job system is going to be "Equip weapon for class," then having 2 jobs use a "Book" won't work. Also, we don't want a whole bunch of book jobs. 1 is novel, 2 are ok, 3 is pushing it. In my opinion, anyway.
