FATE will be the ONLY open world content?Follow

Q44: Are there any plans to implement open world content other than FATE?
A44: While FATE will be the only open world content, there are plenty of aspects of FATE that we have not released. Please stay tuned!

So does that mean the ONLY thing teh open world will consist of is exploration, getting aggro ed my mobs, monsters roaming the map and FATE... nothing else?

i.e no treasure quests, quests, , gathering. Also what about large scale pvp battles? Im pretty sure SE said theyd wanna have that in the game eventually... wouldnt a large scale PVP battle take place in the open world?

The FATE system just stands for "full active time events" - the beta videos we've seen are just the battle ones.

What Yoshi P meant is that any active will content will fall under FATE categories and be counted under the same system, regardless of whether it's battle based or something else.

I used to be against instanced combat, but after playing GW2, I'm becoming more of a fan.

Having some open world content is great, and FFXIV should have plenty. There will be numerous quests, FATES, beastmen strongholds, etc., that will all be open world.

However, keeping content such as hamlet defense and dungeons as instanced allows better balancing for specifically sized groups, which will prevent the content that matters most from becoming mindless zerg fests.

so define "active" content.. I mean I donmt see a treasure chest laying around being "active content" (thu sthe open world wont hav ethose things) or something liek NMs (which has all ready been confirmed that there wont be anyway) etc etc

Yea FATE's will be really good in my opinion. The combat part would be something like the RIFT right? Never played that MMO but i believe its the same philosophy.

The "Event" part within FATE alone leaves it open ended and broad.. I dont see why everyone is making a big deal about his answer..

Because you are a giant drama queen. Everything worries you.

We already know from preview videos that there will be other content beyond FATE. Slow your rolls, everything will work out fine.

except to me "event" means something special.. kind alike lets say Besieged or Campaign in FFXI, or an HNM happening.. i.e something that isnt always taking place or taking place every 5 minutes...

thus I dont see randomly spawning treasure chests and other small nuances youre use to seeing in MMOs in the open world falling into the "event" category and thus am worried about their existanece

oh and lol Killua.... half of his post of sub defaulted... he reminds me of how it used to be from me on the FFXI boards.... I get treated a lot better around here than I did there lol.

Of course people didn't Zerg through GC, but battles in ffxiv will probably not last nearly as long as they did in ffxi. This is going to be a completely different kind of game. And, ffxiv will have open world areas that are like dungeons, just as version 1 did. People are free to go there and kill things, but I'm not sure of this game is being balanced for that kind of slower-paced gameplay.

Im just looking for the excitement of exploring an unknown area and finding its secrets and possibly learning the hard way that im too low level to be there.. get my *** handed to me and some other player who had the same idea finds my corpse and raises me then we team up and explore together... or vice versa... you know.. that experience that an instanced dungeon will never give you.

-has vivid memories of garlaige banishing gates, or looking for coffer sin the temple of uggalpehi or Den of Rancor-

Or having a quest or mission that requires going to an completing a "BCNM" the catch however is the BCNM is located inside a dangerous dungeon so my mission isnt simply run to the BCNM do the fight and win or lose but now I have the added fun of "making it through this dungeon alive AND hope Im strong enough to beat the BCNM too"

and if im not.. well before I decide to give up and call it quits Ill hang around the bcnm for 30 mins in hopes that someone else who had the same idea as me show sup to try it and we can do it together..... another forum of bonding/making friend/community that one could never experience if everything worth doing was instanced

I know what you mean.. Although I like to be more optimistic than others, I know there will be disappointing things with FFXIV ARR just like other games for instance not being on the airship as it flies to its destination or on the ship as it sails but only get a cs.. that’s lame to me. Not a deal breaker but still lame lol.

But one thing I would like to point out is that in that same quote he says, "there are plenty of aspects of FATE that we have not released” which is leaves room for it to be anything. In interviews when he describes fates he said they appear as bubles on the map or something like an area of effect. Who’s to say he doesn’t make a wide range AoE of FATE that has treasure chests pop after certain mob kills or something.. They may be a poor example but my point is there is room in his answer and the “events” part of FATE to still be hopeful.

While I get what you’re saying and to some extent I too believe it to be a legitimate concern, I just don’t think we should be as alarmed or blowing this up to be as big an issue as people are making this out to be.

I'm sure we are not getting the correct interpretation of the question or the answer. It sounds more like FATEs will be the only open world 'events'. There will still be all the gathering and questing and miscellaneous MMORPG things that were in before the end of an era stuff.

To suggest the only thing outside of instances will be FATEs is ridonkulous.

For sure.

Gathering, exploration, farming mobs, doing quests, generally getting around the world.

Yeah... sounds like FATEs are definitely the only thing going on out there.

FATE, behests (or whatever name they have now), leves, main scenario quests, job/class quests, side quests, grand company quests, hamlet defense, etc... I don't think we will be bored even if you are worried FATE is the only 'open world' content.

We've already seen there are quests in the open world, and also Guildhests (the new version of Behest) will be there as well. Man you guys panic over the smallest stuff.

Small variations of the "Not enough like XI" argument.

If ARR is anything like 1.0, there are places in the same zone/region that are way too high for you and you don't quite realize it til you've been two shotted. Smiley: laugh Man, some of those aetherytes in La Noscea and The Black Shroud pissed me off in 1.0. Level 70 mobs guarding them!

But, eh, as long as you can still shed aggro by running far enough way, it'll be okay.

Keep in mind that you're on the outside looking in. With luck we might see phase 3 in a month or so, and with that, the drop of the NDA (per the timeline they posted on lodestone). You'll then have a flood of what else is in store from some of the legacy and alpha/beta testers who pretty much have to limit their posting because of what they know. To say it's the "only open-world content" is misleading, as you'll have quests, leves, and behests among other things I'm sure to fill the gaps.

Edit: Extra random letter.

There's a group for every single opinion you could make out of this game, so yeah.

Just pick the right group and you can laugh at their panic.

While the rest of us shake our heads.

View F.A.T.E as a lens through which certain content is accessed. Think about active time events in previous Final Fantasies. They were events that happened in the past or were happening at the same time as you were doing other things. Just like real life you know? When you play baseball outside, the rest of the world doesn't pause until you interact with it.

F.A.T.E doesn't rob you of your will or depend on you to progress. It happens regardless of you and only allows you the opportunity to affect it's course. Your mission should you choose to accept that mission will be off the record. If you get caught, you will be disavowed.

What is your interpretation of an NM? To me an NM is a notorious monster. Whether I encounter that randomly or through a lens does not change the fact that it is a "Notorious Monster". Instanced doesn't neccesarily have to mean outside interlopers cannot compete for it. Maybe there will be an instanced zone with 100 members from different guilds fighting over that NM. If you read the comment amount no NM literally. All it says is that an NM as you know it from XI are not here with the vague words used.

Yoshi said there would be treasure map stuff. PvP will not be open world. To be so would go against the very foundation of what FInal Fantasy is. There will areas for this just as Guild Wars has mists.

Last thing on instances. Instance doesn't have to mean no random traveler cannot help you or raise you upon seeing you for the first time. I get raised all the time when soloing dynamis currently or even the old days in XI. I enter the zone alone as in only one in the zone. Some nice traveller passes by and on occasion they raise me.

You don't know what is instanced. You don't know whether you prefer instance or open or not. Until you experience how SE implements it and how you experience the content.
