I don't know about everyone else, but I was actually slightly dissapointed when I found out they'd not changed the races, so far screenies have shown them as near-identical. Was kinda hoping they'd come out with something new for it, even if it was similar.
Considering they are meant to be similar, that isn't surprising.
But, even so, they actually are quite different when you really look at them.
Take, for example, the Galka. Compare the XIV one to the XI one and you will notice a LOT of differences (and I'm just talking about ones that have nothing to do with better graphical capabilities). Stature, Tail, number of fingers (or so I'm told), proportions (the XI Galka had shorter legs). Also, though it is hard to tell, it looks like their nose is normal now. Is it still clearly the one meant to be the Galka alternative? Yeah. But it IS very different.
With the Humes there isn't that big of a change, naturally, but it IS there. The XIV Humes have stronger features (more western, too) where the XI models had rounder angles (more Asian). Not a big change, no. But, as they are the race meant to be most human, you can't expect much else.
We haven't seen a Taru in the trailers, but there are some differences noticeable in the art. It doesn't look like they have the animal noses, for one. And their heads look smaller to me.
So, yeah. They are similar. But, if you look, they are actually fairly different considering they aren't meant to be completely different races, aesthetically.
