Anyone who has played FFXI for some time, most likely has built some fantastic memories that are often reflected on with fond nostalgia. Many of these memories are about the friends we met when we were all new, and adventures we all took part in together so long ago when everything was strange and scary.
As time passed in FFXI, new games came out, and those people we found kinship with seemed to dwindle and disappear. Sometimes farewells were made, and teary goodbyes... sometimes they just simply vanished and never logged in again. Friend-lists often seemed to become more of who was offline, than online. All too often I found myself hesitant to destroy a broken linkshell pearl. The memories attached greatly weighed against the need for inventory space.
Some say when we when we depart from our world, everyone you knew is there to greet you on the other side. All grievances are forgiven and reunions are filled with happiness and joy. Those we love are there waiting to go on the next great adventure, together.
I find myself wondering if FFXIV may be the rapture of FFXI in a different sense. One that brings us back to the ones that had moved on. I find myself wondering if my friends will be there in FFXIV, waiting for all new adventures. Not just the ones in my current linkshells but also the ones that disappeared so long ago... The ones that helped me find my way to Jeuno for the first time. The ones that I spent hours and hours helping for various quest drops and keys. I like to hope and think they will be. That FFXIV will not only be new and exciting, but that everyone that was lost along the way, will find their way back home.
