Chosen Auras - a boon or just tricky?Follow

Now I know that every class has their own mechanics which balance out to provide both a unique experience and a challenge when playing that class

With that said, the Chaos Chosens' mechanic, their auras, seem like more of a trouble than anything else. With their 30ft "aggro everything" ability I keep mine turned off most of the time or else I spend an additional 20 minutes fighting every single mob that crosses my path. It's gotten me killed more than the buffs/debuffs have helped.

As an example, doing the spirits quest in Inevitable City I'd be aggroing the Soul Drinkers that constantly wander by...a level 11 vs. a level 22 champion? That's a pile of level 11 gibs there. that just the "challenge" of Chosens' auras, or is this a valid problem other players are experiencing?

Just leave that aura off in Inev, Dreadful fear i think, you will notice most Chosen doing the same. Its the same when wondering around doing pve, leave that aura off till yeh need it. AoE grinding with a decent group is when ill activate Dreadful fear.
Hotkey all your Aura`s and get used to switching out of them when needs be. It becomes second nature in no time, just remember that Dreadful fear does what it says on the tin,,

"You call upon the power of the warp to instill a bone chilling fear in your opponents within 30 feet of you, reducing their Strength by 80. During this time, the Strength of any groupmates within the radius is increased by 80. "

Not good for solo expeditions, great for groups.

If you killed once - You are murderer!
If you killed ten people - You are monster!
If you killed hundreds - You are hero!
If you killed thousand - You are legend!

While I didn't play my Chosen that long, I generally only used them in Scenarios and PQs if I was in a group. Other than that I left them off.

If you play a Chosen, and do not use your auras, you are wrong. Now, there are obviously moments when you NEED to turn them off, when you land in IC your aura should've been removed, keep it that way. After getting ganked by the Lv.35 mobs in IC and not having ANY clue why I was the only one getting killed, my roommate pointed out it was my aura. After him playing a Chosen for a while we discussed how annoying it is as a Chosen to be cruising around doing quests and what not, only to pull every mob and critter that you come across, and how it would be nice if the Chosen auras didn't pull "orange" mobs, mobs you can kill but don't generally aggro you unless you attack them, unfortunately the debuff portion of the aura is considered hostile to them and you'll pull every one you come across. In the end I think it's a mechanic you have to deal with, if you want to benefit from your auras being a buff and a debuff, which I definitely do.

They could change the Auras to work like this:

Gives group members within range a buff corresponding to the Aura's effect. For instance, Dreadful Fear would give you and your group mates the following buff:

You call upon the power of the warp to instill a bone chilling fear in your opponents, increasing the Strength of any groupmates within the radius by 80. During this time, opponents that hit any groupmates within radius will have their Strength reduced by 80 for 10 seconds.

That way, no matter who the opponent hits within the Aura's radius, his strength will be reduced by the amount given to the groupmates. The 10 second linger could be altered to balance it out, but I put it there to make sure that the debuff is always up, unless whoever just hit you decides to leave you and your nearby groupmates alone for 10 seconds.

Just a thought.
Please "talk up" if your comprehension white-shifts. I will use simple-happy language-words to help you understand.

Aye, and he had a similar thought, which I counter with the fact that regardless who I hit in PvP, I'm always surrounded with people, and I want my debuff one them at all times, not only if my party or I are hitting them. Of course, they could have different mechanics for PvE/PvP, but generally it doesn't work like that.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who's had this conundrum. I happened upon more than one addon that makes it easier to "weave" the auras back and forth and I had to groan. I liked playing a Bard in EQ1, but it just wouldn't work here if you ask me.

I personally would change the auras so that they no longer effect "orange" targets until actually attacked (as Kannon suggested as well), that way by the time a "red" target comes near enough to have the debuff, they would have already attacked as it is. It would also not change the way RvR works.

However my major disappointment I guess comes with the knowledge that the Chosen mechanic is almost more of a hindrance than anything else. My Witch Elf's performance would be severely stunted without her Blood Lust, and the crit chance/damage bonuses that both Sorcerers and Bright Wizards get are crucial at times (risky, but still worth the chance). Just about every class has stock in their mechanic I guess you could say.

But really I seem to do better when I ignore auras. Isn't that kind of the opposite of the point of mechanics?
