For those waiting on Tuesday - Something useful to do!Follow

You're willingly upgrading to Vista? o_O; Wow... Everyone I've talked to hates the OS. It's more effed up than Windows normally is.

Yayaya I know ... I probably won't get it.

I've been a holdout for a long time now ... I don't mind XP, but next to the functionality of my Mac, I just feel like I'm living in the dark ages. Of course, the thought of my O/S taking VIDEO RAM away from my games (I run with dual monitors, and to run Vista the pretty way takes VRAM!!!) is ABSURD! OSX looks amazing and has no reliance on 3d graphics RAM...

No I guess it is not.

I'm sure there are a select few (perhaps including yourself) with knowledge far superior to my own ... But for the average computer user, it's a fact of life.

I've been running Vista for a month at least now and I have to say, I have really no complaints with it. If anything it isn't Microsoft who screwed it up, it's the manufactures that can't put out a decent driver to support the OS. But having Vista is <3 for me. Being able to use 4GB of RAM is a godsend. No slowdown at all for me.

As for stuff I get to do while waiting for Tuesday is to see how this tiny hurricane that whipped through Ohio is going to affect my work week and how it may affect my chance to play WAR on Tuesday.

I've been on 32-bit Vista for almost a year. As long as you have the hardware to support a hungry OS, it is as stable as XP was for me, and offers a few really nice features the average skill techie will appreciate.

It isn't Vista's abilities that bother most people, it's the sheer number of incompatability problems that people don't like.

Just to let you know, MS knew there were going to be several incompatibility issues with Vista. They actually prepared for it though. Right click on the program that's screwy, "properties," click the little "compatibility" tab up top and choose "run in compatibility mode for" and you can go all the way down to Windows 95. I've gotten old school games my daughter likes to play that used to just shut down.

I'm not advocating Vista, my favorite OS is still 98SE, but like the wolf man said,

You'll get used to it after a while, but it's going to take some time and regular use. The alternatives...don't use it, or cry about it.

Computers are always changing. I may wait a year or so for them to get the bugs out, but I like to stick pretty close to the times, at least for technology. I finally let my obsession with EQ go now that they've completely screwed up the PVP server with all these expansions. But then again, SOE never listens to their players. Mythic seems like they actually give a damn.
