I might have made a mistake rolling Sorcerer... I'm LOVING the class. I did 26k damage in a Scenario - the 2nd lead was at 12l 0_o.

I feel like a god, wielding the primordial power of the world, any that stands in my way gets maimed to pieces. Fear my wrath, for it is mighty, like Khaine's! Smiley: sly

Hrmm. Yeah. Might have to reconsider my choice of class. =D

People notice my 26k damage and I got invited to a pre-made, and we've been dominating Order all afternoon.

I'm now Rank 11 and Renown Rank 10. Har!

A few things I've learned/observed:

Scenario: Nordenwatch > Khaine's Embrace in pretty much every way possible. One encourage turtling and is pretty boring, the other one is extremely fast paced and chaotic... KE rarely ends with 1 team reaching 500, and easily go for the full 15 minute, which also makes it feel like it take forever.

It kinda suck tho that there's a lot of 'hidden' rule in there, which aren't readily apparent. Nordenwatch has 3 node to capture (it's similar to AB for WoW player), but the central node is worth a LOT more points, but there's really nowhere where it says it... you kinda have to figure it out.

Sorcerer rules!... but their Dark Magic rule made them extremely healer reliant, as their dark magic goes up, their damage/crit goes up... but so does their chance to cause backlash and hurt themselves. That being said, with a good healer watching you, you can really go crazy (Like I did all afternoon) and become an harbinger of destruction.

They seem to be a somewhat odd gear disrepency in the game. For one thing, 'random world drop' are way more powerful then their item/level would indicate. I found several green items while leveling, that despite their low level were much, much better then higher level green from Public Quest... we're talking a level 3 Green Staff with +15int versus a level 6 Green staff with +6int here - not even the same league of item.

Also, as general rule, Renown Gear seems much better then PQ gear... do head over to the Warcamp asap and check if the renown gear you'll be able to get in a level or 2 is better then the PQ rewards - it's often much better to just out level a PQ and get the better Renown item then spend hours grinding influence for an item you'll replace in a level anyway.

It seems that from a Gear point of view, assuming equal level, it goes this way:

World Drop > PQ Chest reward > Renown Gear > PQ Influence Reward.

Renown Gear does have the advantage of matching tho :P

Speaking of Renown... your Renown Rank can't be higher then your normal Rank. I find that a bit annoying... sure, if you're leveling and doing some RvR on the side, it's no problem. But I spend the whole day doing Scenario (and winning, so making a lot of Renown) and I got to 99% and needing to go do some quest to allow me to hit RR10. It's kinda lame... it also somewhat 'forces you' to level at some point - and pvp already gives you xp, so you'd level ANYWAY... it feels unneeded.

And I think I found an unforeseen issue with the Chicken System. There's a quest in the DE area called 'Legend and Infamy'. This is an extremely long quest chain that you'll pick up around level 5 and finish near the end of Tier 1, most likely at level 11. This quest gives you an epic weapon. Normally, you can do it fine. However, because I RvR'd all day... I'm now a full 2 level ahead of where my 'quest progression' puts me. End result, I'll hit level 12 before I finish this quest line... if this was an open server, I'd become a chicken and be incapable of finishing that quest (And getting it's juicy reward). Kinda suck to think that I'd be getting punished because I pvped.

All around tho, I'm having a great time :)

Sorceress is definately my favorite class on destruction. It was my alt during preview weekend and I ended up taking her to Rank 12 and RR8 where the DoK I rolled as my main was more or less ignored. Can't wait to finally play the game live to experiment with her builds as calamity (the DoT line) seems to be what I plan on taking her. Bright Wizard looks to be just as fun (of course they should being the mirror) except pyromaniacs. I loved walking into the Bright Wizard college and listening to them all blow themselves up and laugh.

Also agree on the Nordenwatch over Khaine's Embrace scenario. Though you have to love the noob check of KE when a side captures both. Makes things a bit more exciting.

As for Renown gear, I'm glad that there isn't the overwhelming problem that happened during PW where you could get 3 new slots filled along with nice upgrades. Makes killing people rank 10 and up a lot more manageable.

As for the issue with the Renown Rank not being able to surpass your level, I have a feeling that changes somewhere as when I was exploring Altdorf on my swordmaster, I noticed epic sets for the empire careers that required higher renown rank than regular ranks to equip. But we'll have to see if that holds true in live. Hope so since I'll be playing primarily in RvR for leveling.

World Drop > PQ Chest reward > Renown Gear > PQ Influence Reward.

Can't say I've noticed this so far. Most of my better gear has come from PQ's in the early levels, the 2nd tier renown gear later on. Influence rewards start getting alot better in later chapters, but I have seen some really nice drops for classes other than mine in the world drops. Its more random than anything else, sounds like you got lucky there.

Basically, I've noticed that the game changes a bit as you start doing teir 2, so don't write anything off by playing only rank 1-10. This is especially true of the jobs themselves. Lots of cool new abilites later on.

I agree that some scenarios are more fun than others, but thats true of anything in a game. Wait til stonetroll crossing in teir 2 EvC, its my favourite one, easpecially as you start getting knockback moves around then. Nothing quite like booting an enemy off the top of the central hill with a knockback and watching them fly off into the distance.

Your renown can't be higher than your normal rank until you hit rank 40. Then your rank caps out, but your renown can go up to 80.

I believe the reason it can't exceed that before hand is to do with game balance. I know you can get rewards from the renown trainers with renown mastery points. I assume this rule stops you from getting those rewards too early in your normal character progression?

It is awesome fun though.

Well it's mostly an assumption since I'm not an elder tester and when you see something like this Witch Hunter set on in game venders, you have to wonder if the RR rank not able to surpass regular rank until rank cap holds true. It's a bit misleading.

I wouldn't take too much from the gear sets in game atm. Gear has changed alot lately, and I'll be surprised if the sets we've seen/can see in game atm is the live versions.

When given the survey about whether the Chicken Debuff should exist on open servers I talked about pretty much the same issue. Hopefully if enough do the same they'll think of how to maybe work out a good system on open servers that doesn't restrict you from doing earlier tiers' PvE.

So far I've enjoyed myself, just trying to get used to new graphics and controls after so much WoW. Took a Marauder to around Rank 10 and Renown 8 or so since I figured that might be my favorite. I like the lore/look of the class and that "Berserker" type class has always been one of my favorite, a DPS Warrior more or less with lighter armor (had a 75 Warrior in FFXI and a 70 Warrior in WoW). I then started a Zealot to try that and I'm really enjoying it so far. I ended up falling in love with Hunter in WoW so my friend has already picked on me and said I'll end up being a Squig Herder, we'll see.

One question. Does anyone here play on a laptop? I do and the touchpad has a scroll area that works fine scrolling websites and in WoW to zoom the camera. In WAR though I haven't been able to use it to zoom in or out, anyone else having that problem?

Yeah, I keep clicking No when the survey pops up, hopefully enough people vote that way that it goes through. There's a very high population of 'carebear' (for a lack of a better term, I don't mean to insult) playing this game, it's surprising considering what the game is supposed to be about.

In any case...

I got to level 12 on my Sorc, and level 12 is a trap. Well, it was yesterday anyway. Way to few people in Tier2 for any kind of RVR to actually happen. Without Scenario to punctuate the leveling... it got kinda boring. :(

So I rerolled a Chosen, named Thark, to wait for people to catch up and also to try him out.

He's a lot of fun, twisting aura is challenging to do while still fighting, especially in RvR where things can get chaotic... it's a shame to see all the chosen who only keep 1 aura up and essentially fight at 33% of their full power.

There's a lot more people playing in Chaos/Empire than in HE/DE... this means Nordenwatch is almost always up, compared to Khaine's Embrace which often took forever to pop. This mean I get a constant stream of 'extra' xp my Sorc never had and it's also quite easy to keep my renown rank up as I level, something my Sorc had a hard time doing. I might just have to fly to C/E asap once it goes live if this is any indication.

That being said, tank get shafted. Most PQ or world RVR objectives cannot be taken without a tank... yet, we get nothing out of it. PQ score are determined by doing damage and healing... but something has vital as tanking the last Hero gets no 'bonus'. I've tanked a few pq already, and despite that, I rarely break 7th or 8th on the table at the end. It's a bum deal.

Compared to a Sorcerer, it's pretty fun to be able to take a hit and keep on going. The chosen also made me remember why I always play melee clas - it may not be a effective as ranged... but ****, it's satisfying to smack a Bright Wizard with an oversized 2 hander.

Not sure if it's bugged or intended but as a healer you don't gain any influence from healing people killing the PQ mobs unless you do damage, least that's how it was working for my Zealot. I'm guessing a Warband would solve this but there won't always be one and point of PQ is to be able to achieve things without having to form a group. Hoping it's not intended or if it is, it gets fixed. I'm guessing near the top of their priority for tweaks is how PQ contribution is handled.
