I played DAoC a long, long time ago, and am interested in coming back to play and have some fun again. I am interested in melee dps, and am wondering what would be more benefical for RvR a Sword/shield armsman or a mercenary?

both classes do just fine. Mercs, especially fully ToA'd probably can do more burst damage than an armsman. An armsman brings other wanted stuff to a group though. Armsman are probably a bit easier to level up.
