Ok, I have just bought the DAoC complete box set and i have a few questions, how easy is the game to get used to and what class should I start as?

I was thinking of starting as a necromancer, what would be the best way to get a decent start in the game?

Thanks in advance.

ok if you want an easy class to play i would say start a tank class first. my first class though was an earth theurgist. all i really did when i decided to kill something was spam the mob/player with earth pets and just watched them beat away on whatever or whoever i was attacking. works really good imo in the bg's to kinda even out the odds when you are outnumbered a bit. i always put atleast 2 pets on every person i came across in the battlegrounds that was from an enemy realm... "atleast" 2. if it was a tank class then i'd put up to 4 or 5... earth pets were fun as well because the lasted so long and are good for interrupting casters/healers for a minute at a time. now that i have a little more experience in the game i have moved around to other classes... but for classes i would probably stay away from trying would be minstrels... you have to be able to be a good singer to play one of those guys... infiltrators are a blast as well... most any caster would be a good starter class since you basically can just nuke to your hearts content whenever you want...

I would not start as a pure caster. you may get discouraged early on. casters are squishy and die constantly and that can be really frustrating.

Tanks are a good choice but they can get boring to play. You will be desirable in groups but you might get bored.

A healer class is slightly more difficult to play but its a really good way to learn about all the classes in your realm as they end up trusting you with their lives.

I think healers are the most fun to play, and you will never find yourself hard pressed for a group and the xp can be easy. (among others i have a 50 friar, 50 healer, 50 cleric and 42 bard)

The straight healers (spec right) by realm:

Albion; Cleric/ spec buffs, rvr de-buffs, stun and decent damage spell

Hibernia; Druid/ spec buffs, haste buff, roots and pet class

Midgard; Shaman/ spec buffs, endurance buff/ damage over time spells

The hybrid healer classes have their merits too, and are good if you want to do some soloing. Straight healers are pretty helpless. The best hybrid healer/tank is the Friar/Albion. Wardens/Hibernia are decent but bards are more fun, and the vote is still out on Heretic/Albion.

Im relatively new, and I've spent a hell of a lot of time trying out different classes. I cant comment on the overall effectiveness of most classes, because most of them really shine when they reach higher levels and get the really badass toys.

I can say, however, that the most fun toon, and so far the easiest to level toon, has been my paladin. alot of things need to be considered when finding the "perfect" toon for leveling, most importantly do you plan on going solo, or do you have friends or know other people that would be willing to help you? leveling in groups is truely a worthwhile investment of your time, and can be alot of fun too :)

It truly is a very personal question. The easiest class I had to level with was a minstrel, the fastest but most boring was a necromancer. I can't play a cabalist or sorcerer to save my life, yet I know a number of people who are very successful with it.

Right now I have an pally, merc and wizard I'm leveling (three separate alts.) They're all very different but a lot of fun to play.

I also tried going to Hibernia and Midgard (on Gaheris, co-op server) but I just can't get into the classes, not even the new (and some say overpowered) Vampiir or Warlock.

I know people who can't play Albion classes, so that doesn't surprise me. Best bet, play around with all of them. I'd recommend starting on Gaheris (unless you know people and have a server selected). You can swap realms there, testing out a lot of different classes, all the realms, meet a lot of really nice people and try it all without worrying about RvR. Once you're confortable with a class / realm, pick a regular server and start killing the enemy!
