Considering Begining DAoCFollow

#1 Apr 13 2005 at 7:07 PM Rating: Decent
I currently play FFXI, and am begining to get bored. I downloaded the free trial of DAoC and am in the process of giving it a try. But because the game has been out for so long, I expect most players are very high level, so I am concerned that there will not be many low lvl people for me to group with. Do you think this will be a problem? I picked the server with a large population at the time, (Lancelot), hoping this wouldn't be a problem. Or will I be able to solo until I catch up to others? So my question: Did I wait too long to start DAoC? Thanks.

There was a famous Welsh poet named Dylan Thomas who used a phrase...."You must begin at the beginning"...kinda meaning you have to start somewhere...and no youre not too late.

Merlin is actually more populated than Lancelot and if you start to play you will find Albion the easiest.

I started in Hibernia about two years ago and after about a year switched to Albion and I found it "more user friendly".

Get your DAOC manual, read websites (like this wonderful one) and ask questions...look for beginner guilds and if youre not happy in a guild, leave and try another one...it takes patience and as I have found out in this game....life in DAOC begins at level 50 and with all the expansions and RVR and Epic quests abd task dungeons and Master levels and Artifacts you wont get bored....frustated yes but not bored.

Not everyone has a high level, new players are joining all the time, also some high players will make a low toon just for the battlegrounds. Personally if i dont understand a class I play it from level 1 and dont /level.

The friendliest server though is Gaheris (Co-Op) any clas/race can group with anyone, Down side No RvR, but i consider that a small thing.

So it takes level 50 for the game to get really fun? How long will it take me to get there? Also, a while ago, I read somewhere that the different weren't balanced at all. Is this still true, or was it ever true?
Thanks.

Its fun no matter what level you play...its a great learning and growing exp...the point was, that when you do reach level 50, it just keeps going.

While it is true that more things open up the higher you get, trust me you can have fun at lower levels. Also, I just jumped servers due to a buddy of mine in another state finding out he knew people who played and so we are starting new characters just to join in that guild. Solo vs group depends as much on you as your class. A lot of people whine about soloing, or a given class is gimped when in fact they just don't know how to play the class effectively, I loved my Thane, kicked major butt, but I am in a steep learing curve with my Spiritmaster and Bonedancers...I suck at playing mages so I don't complain the classes are gimped...I get killed my equal lvl mobs while my buddy solo's oranges and reds.... The point here is the game has what you take out of it. Tons of quests if you like storyline, plenty of mobs for killing, loot is logical (few if any magic items off of animals, but lots of body parts to sell), and even if you don't get Trials of Atlantis etc, you can upgrade the game engine to Catacombs and the graphics are much improved.... Just random thoughts from someone who likes to think he's not a newbie ;)
