well, i have bin playing DAoC on a friends acount for a long time now, i would like to get a new acount for my self but from playing on my friends acound there are a lac of people playing from lvl one, because of the /level 20, which is fair enough but i think the game could do with alot more new people playing, the main reason for people not playing i think is because not alot of people know about about the game, just talking to the friends i have none of them had ever heard of the game, were as ,WoW pretty much everyone knows about it, i just think it needs to get more widly known of to get more new people playing to bring the game back to life.....

You'd be right, but Mythic is not the advertising powerhouse that Blizzard and SoE are unfortunatly. However word of mouth can quickly get at least a small population bump.

As for people starting out from lvl 1, yes most of the higher levels use the /level ability, however there are some coming back to the game (myself and my fiance included) that are starting from scratch to get a feel for the game again. Of course we only got to 16 at our highest so it isn't a huge loss for us. If you're ever on Morgan (Hib), Percival (Mid), or Guin (Alb) we both have level 1 characters there now. Will be starting to actually play on Sunday.
