ok this is prolly something simple that I just can't figure out. How can I see what a spells effects are within the game? I'm currently only using the 14 day trial. Trying to decide if I want to pay for the game or not

Spell effects, as in graphical? don' tthink anyone has a collection of those. Plus they change.. often (sorcs get a different graphic just about every patch, for example).
If you mean what each caster can do, you can check the class links on this board though.

Okay, in short, For Visual Spell Effects:
Option panel (Character's stats) -> Options -> Change your effects setting.
Spell's Effects (as in what a spell does)
Right click said spell -> shift + N -> Read and enjoy
