I am considering DAoC, but I had some questions first! I will not be able to play often and when I do I probably will not have time to commit to grouping so I wanted the best solo class/race combination I can get based on your experience. I love to group when I can, but I usually just chat with friends while in games and solo because of my busy schedule.

1. Which are the best solo class/race combinations in the game?

I have heard Necromancer and Bonedancer so far in my reading, but I have no basis for comparison.

2. Where can I find information on how to properly build/spec this class?

Thank you for the help, in advance!

well i play a troll thane (midgard realm Bors server) and even at 35th i can still solo oj (orange con) mobs with ease.

ive pulled off the xping so i can get up my RP (realm points earned from PvP action in the realm war zones)

last night had a total blast even though the hibs kicked our butts. night before i made over 900 points.

not a lot for a 50s, but a total over amount of points for a mid 30s toon.

I've played DAoC since it started, and have tried most of the classes. My favorite solo class is friar. Healing, self-buffs, one weapon/no shield. Leather wearing. They are fun and pretty economical to operate. Being Albions secondary healer means you can get in groups if you really want to. Although the endgame RvR groups can be pretty picky (you wont be first choice here, clerics are what they look for) you can usually get a pickup group without too much problem. At 50th with good equipment, you can solo the less trafficed areas of the frontiers and usually ruin a stealthers afternoon without breaking a sweat.
In PvE you can do oranges reds and occasionally purps at the upper levels.
I will say that you really don't come into your own until the mid to late 30's, but I always had fun with my friars even at low level.

One other suggestion. If you are planning an almost wholly solo career you might consider playing on Gaheris the co-op server. No RvR. Mostly people who have "retired" from the endgame in other servers. You can play any class, any realm and explore everywhere. It's the nicest community of people on any server I've played on.

Being a friar myself, I agree :) Friar is a great class for soloing. All classes in DAOC can solo if specced properly - friar just happens to be one of the most fun ones, IMO. Necromancer is a fast leveling class if you like to watch your pet fight. I haven't played the other realms much, but I like the Valewalker class of Hibernia for soloing also.

Don't start a light tank or a rogue character if you want to solo easily. Light tanks can be powerful in groups but suffer from the light armor that goes with their class. They have no buffs or heals to help out like the friar. Rogue classes also suffer from weak armor and weak attacks. Lots of their most powerful attacks and attack chains are positional - hard to get off when you're soloing.

If you like to play a caster, the sorcerer is a strong class. It uses charmed pets and you can charm a pet up to your level, which makes the sorcerer pet one of the strongest in the game if you choose the right one for the job.

Theurgist is another strong pet class. Multiple pets can be cast so you can set up staggered lines of defense so that if the mob comes toward you, the second line can still cast.

These are all Albion classes (except Valewalker). Hopefully, someone from the other realms will give you some insight into Hibernia and Midgard.

I agree that the coop server, Gaheris, would be a best bet for you if you don't plan to participate in RvR. You can have up to 24 characters on that server (8 in each realm). Makes it easier to get items and money from one character to another and you also have a myriad of choices of where to hunt, including the frontiers which are mostly off-limits on the regular servers because of RvR.

A good place to read up on the various classes and find guides is classesofcamelot.com. I'm sure you can find some guides on this site also, but CoC is more comprehensive, giving you guide, website and message board information for each class all in one place.

Good luck in your travels through DAOC.

Yeah, Friar is probably the best that I can think of.
Another alternative is the Valewalker. Similar to a friar, but wears cloth armor, swings a scythe, and DDs. This would be less desired in groups compared to Friar, but if they are friends youre grouping with I dont see a problem.

Id stay away from classes requiring expensive armor to start, since you wont have as much money.

Casters are generally the easiest to level without cash. You just want a focus staff to avoid downtime. Pet classes do well. Body Cabalist has little downtime with pet reclaim. That would be my pick for solo caster, though you can solo almost any caster decently. With life transfer you can even help a group with healing (from what ive heard).

I would suggest Wizard. Start wih fire till at least 20 then you will be able to respec to Ice if you feel you want to, but I still prefer Fire till maybe 40.
Main critism is limited variety of spells, but can solo very well, and in my opinion good support in a group too.

Heya,

I play a druid on Gaheris and I am also new to DaoC. My job only allows me about 10hours a week to play at most 15 so I do alot of solo'ing or grouping with guildies. My druid is a regrowth/nurture, even though my prefer method is solo I still group alot with guildies so this benefits me and druid buffs are uba. My advice look at different classess and abilites, check people opinions on them. I'll say necro might be your best bet cause the dmg the do. Friars right up next. Gaheris is a fun server overall :-)

Hey, do you have to be the same class the whole game? Like if you wanted to be a friar then switch to another, can you?

I solo a Reaver, have leveled her all way up solo to 20th.

She does some grouping but not much and most times its nice people thinking I need help when I dont .

I have same situation where I can not commit to groups much.

No, you cannot change your class. However, you can have up to 8 characters on a regular server and you can play on as many servers as you want. On the cooperative and pvp servers, you can have up to 24 characters per server (8 in each realm).
