I am new to Camelot and bought the whole shebang...DAoC, SI & TOA. I am creating a Half-Ogre fighter and, at level 4, my quest takes me to the various trainers of the classes open to me. I had to go to the Armsman, Mercenary and Paladin trainers. I didn't think Paladin was a viable class. Is it?

No Pally is not avail for a Half-Ogre. Mythic made a comment in some grab bag about plot and story and some of the sort as to why it was not possible.. but I do suggest as a Half-Ogre you choose either an arms(I would go polearm) or a Crush Merc.
