Can anyone give me any advice about this particular assault? I'm completely unable to figure out how this works unless it's just one of the really really random ones that suck to complete. Any help is appreciated.

The wiki page has a lot of notes about it, and I was able to beat it after reading these plus a lot of trial and error. That said, it's a very frustrating assault if you go with people who don't understand what's going on, as they'll probably get in your way somehow and scare the birds away.

Yeah I read those notes and I got the message about them liking me a few times but they'd immediately run away no delay between the message and them fleeing. I really don't get this mission.
