wanting to returnFollow

Hey folks, for some reason after 4 years I have grown a wild hair to play ffxi again but I'm not sure if its even possible. I stopped playing right before they started raising the level cap and abbysea. So I have a almost fully merited warrior and a 75 bard. What would be the best job to get to 99 and is it even possible to catch up after being out for so long. Any help would be much appreciated or maybe just give me some references of online guides to help me get leveled up. Thanks!

I'd read as many of the "Returning Player" threads as you can, as they answer most every question you'd have. Also check out ffxiah.com for a lot of info.

So is trust NPCs the way to solo then? If I wanted to solo bard where would I go? How tough of monsters do I fight? What gear would I need or go after at this point?

If you choose to solo, you'll want a tank, a healer and a DD trust with you. Otherwise, you can go to Abyssea and open chests for groups to get to 99 form there. You'll still need to get the new limit break quests though. I'd find a linkshell to join, as they'll be a good resource to get you back on track. Once you get leveled up, you'll need to have some good gear, as BRD's are now expected to have certain items to be invited to end game events.

Solo in grounds of valour areas while using book quests AND Records of Eminence bonuses for best EXP per mob ratio (though I would not focus on just book mobs unless its convenient, just have the quest on to get points in addition to ROE)

This link (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Grounds_Tome ) shows different tomes and pages - will give you somewhat of an idea of which zone for which levels. Keep in mind mobs that are inherently annoying, dungeons that are difficult to get to, etc. I'd also suggest targeting mobs when you are at the high range of the suggested levels - so do a 22-26 page when you're closer to 25/26 rather than at 22, for best results.

If you're going to BRD make sure to have a good dagger, your DPS will help, as unfortunately the melee trusts are the weaker trusts. Tank, DD and nuker is probably your best bet as long as you can avoid taking aggro/keep your MP up. When trust HP/MP gets low just dismiss and resummon, if you're fighting EP/DCs it actually shouldn't be too often especially if your tank has some MP.

It's also worth noting that Zied Lion and Aldo get bonus power ups if you call two or more of them, so you might want to skip the tank and call say Zied and Aldo (seriously the nukers are the best DDs so you won't want to drop them - you need damage... but they also probably gonna get their face eaten)

I'd probably /dnc and dual dagger after level 40
