Playing in Taiwan.Follow

#1 Jan 19 2014 at 5:28 AM Rating: Decent
I haven't played since 2004. Coming back after 10 years, sorta forgot how to setup the whole thing....
Can anyone tell me the actual steps to setup the game in Taiwan? I know I need to setup proxy and all...
I still have the DVD PC version "Ultimate Collection" which includes the 4 expansions, which I bought 5 years ago...
The problem is that I'm currently using Windows 7 on my laptop, I already downloaded the updated POL from FFXI official website for windows 7 and vista....

Can someone help explain how to setup the whole game from the beginning? cause i'm a noob at setting up games...
I also heard there new additional methods for payment, I also need some advice on it too....

Thanks.

Been too long. Search for a guide. Any response will probably be a link to one anyway.

Any guides or links will be helpful! I really want to get back to this game, the problem is that I'm not sure about how to setup the proxy if I'm in Taiwan. I heard rumors that SE will still ban IP's coming from Asian countries, especially China. So I'm not sure if I log in from Taiwan without setting up my IP will also have the same problem as well. Any detailed guides explaining the detail steps to play in Taiwan will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

You would have to google for the guides..

As for the IP, just download your favorite spoofing software.

Dude...thanks a lot for the help! What I really want to know is that if I really do need to setup proxy before logging in. The reason why I'm asking is because I heard SE has been banning all the IP's coming from China, and other parts of Asia as well. I'm just not sure if they are also banning the IPs coming from Taiwan as well. It would definitely be better if I don't need to setup the proxy, and just play right away...

And btw, I know there is a new payment method using Crysta or something...are there any other convenient methods for payment to use in Taiwan?

Any links to guides would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Go to https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/login?cont=account. You can set up your payment there and I think it has all of the information for downloading.

As for the proxy, don't worry about it. If it doesn't work, just download your ip spoofing software. I can't say if SE is still banning IPs.

I'm not too worried about the payment methods, just wanted to know if there are methods that people generally use in Taiwan.

I really hope I don't need to setup proxy playing this game, cause that means I need to go to my ISP and apply for a fixed IP address which will cost me additional money every month....

The game hasn't been installed yet, unfortunately I don't have a dvd drive in my laptop, so I'm still waiting until tomo to receive the player I ordered online to install the game.

Went on to google to search for related problems regarding the networking setup in Taiwan, unfortunately I heard a lot of them saying that they had to apply for the fixed IPs with their ISP. But that was like years ago, I hope I don't need to do that now...in the meantime I guess I just have to wait until tomorrow and see if it will work without the proxy setup...

I'm not sure why you would need a fixed IP. I'm not the most IT savvy, but you should be able to use any IP spoofing software with DHCP. I did so in Korea when it was blocked there years ago (2008-2009ish).

Thanks again for the response! The thing is when I was trying to search forums relating to the networking setup in Taiwan for playing this game, apparently some of them mentioned about how they had to apply for a fixed IP address for playing this game. I'm not sure why this game needs to setup a fixed IP anyways, so that's why I wanted to know for sure before I actually start the game...cause i'm worried about banning while I enter the game.

Regarding the IP spoofing software with DHCP, what are you suppose to do for that? I"m kinda noob when it comes to setting up IPs, you had to do that in Korea when you need to setup for the game?

Ok, I wrote the original "guide" on how to do it as SE has blocked all the major ISP's in South Korea and it was a PITA to play. I've narrowed it to down to a very simple procedure that doesn't require a SOCK's compatible proxy. The only servers that would be blocking your connection would be the POL / SE login and update servers, the actual world servers seem to be open.

#1 Get a VPN service
Honestly for people outside of the USA it's just a smart thing to have as so many places are now using geofilter to ***** with you. I use HideMyAss.

http://hidemyass.com/

Now they come with a client that will redirect 100% of your internet traffic to the destination you chose, either California or even Japan. This is by far the simplest method available to you. Chose the OpenVPN client and it works like a charm.
