Cool trust NPC "trick"Follow

#1 Jan 09 2014 at 3:20 AM Rating: Default
Im sure most of us know this, but not many people do it. This is good for those who don't want to abyssea-burn their job completely, because then you'll have to worry about getting your skill cap up more and we all know thats a ***** to do...

But this is cool for people with pet jobs, and only in the older areas, which makes sense if you havent started lvling a specific job yet (youll find out why in a sec)

So I want to lvl my BST, it's lvl 1 right now, so this is my "party"

Myself
Trust NPC 1
Trust NPC 2
Trust NPC 3
Signal Pearl NPC
Charmed Pet/Avatar/Wyvern/Automaton (Obviously this depends on what job you use)

So NOW we have a full party of 6.. Cool right? And yes.. this works! The only catch is that you can't seem to use a signal pearl NPC in areas like the Seekers of adoulin zones. And you can't invite other players.. but thats the whole point.

COOL RIGHT? :D

I like it but I do agree they need to expand the areas a bit more.
Like you can take your npc's out in the outdoor area of sky but not indoors.

OR

Ditch the signal pearl that is draining ½ of the exp. Should be enough with the 3 trusts and the pet.

Signal pearls drain XP? I never noticed that.

When you fight with your Adventuring Fellow you receive 30% fewer experience points. Other party members do not experience this reduction.

So it's only 30% but basically same difference. Still, its fun to have that many NPC's following and fighting with you sometimes.

I see. Well 30% is not 1/2.

Nowadays, I'm sure the exp gain wont make a huge difference where it dramatically slows down your XP flow while useing a Signal pearl NPC in your party. Plus as to what i was mentioning about abyssea burn and skill ups, instead of speed running to 99 you can get yourself higher up by actually having a leveled skill so you wont suck at your job.

Whatever happened to enjoying the game and having fun and not being so serious?

Honestly, you seem like the only one who is being serious. SeraphTacosnak's info was solid even if it wasn't 100% correct and didn't come off at all abrasive. He simply mentioned that you'd want to lose the adventuring fellow for the EXP penalty and that 3 Trust NPCs would be enough. I don't see any judgment in anyone's post saying anyone is doing something wrong by using a signal pearl. Everyone play style is different, all and all it's a game, so play it how you wish. When did providing additional information and insight on a forum become a problem any way?

I discovered a bit of a trick while attempting to solo Insidio (Runefencer AF quest).

I used the three tarus to nuke/heal until they were out of MP. Disengage and all 3 will begin rapidly recovering their MP. Once it is full, slap the enemy with your weapon and watch them unload once more. Rinse repeat. I was able to get the NM down to 1% HP this way before becoming charmed just as Bio wore off and it was able to recover back to 100%...

I'm kind of hoping NPC AI improves just a little in the future. They don't seem to understand that they can nuke/heal/support from a safe distance rather than right next to the enemy.

One way to improve on the distance your NPCs stand at is actually to fight a totally different mob where you do want them to stand first, and then switch targets over (without disengaging). The NPC's will start gunning for your new target without moving. This of course doesn't help for forced-pop NMs, situations where you can't deal with both mobs at once, and cases where you need to disengage+re-engage to renew their MP -- so usefulness is fairly limited, but I used it to good effect keeping Kupipi out of the Craklaw AOE soloing Colonization Reives in Foret.

You can always just get hate over top of the NPCs (not hard on any job really) and pull the mob away from Kupipi as well. To avoid having to claim 2 monsters if that's not the intent. That will help forced-pop NMs or situations where you can't deal with two mobs at once.

Yeah just engage and then move away from the NPC's. Works for all the non melee ones. Even Joachim, though you'll have to run back over to him for songs, cause he won't come to you. Mihli, Kupipi, and either joachim or ajido and you'll never be killed by anything. (until they run out of MP)

I wonder if they'll ever reduce or remove the xp penalty from fellows. It just seems ridiculous now.
