Returning player, got some questionsFollow

#1 Jan 07 2014 at 4:41 PM Rating: Good
So in returning to xi after about 4 and half years and just got a few things on my mind about the game as how I use to play it has changed now.

1. How do I level a low character now? Before I would do dunes pt or the mine pt for exp but those seem non exstistant now on my server, so how do I level up now?

2. Where are all the English players gone? I've been /sh for a ls for an hr and no one seems to respond to me :(

3. What's a gd way to make some start Gil these days? Before I would do beehive chips and honey but what's the best way nowadays?

1. Get trust NPCs - use them to help you level: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Category:Trust
Basically they are spells that summon an NPC to help you level etc. Use them while doing Records of Eminence: http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Category:Records_of_Eminence

2. Everyone is in Adoulin. You may have more luck using /yell in any city as it will go to Adoulin as well as all the rest of the cities, but a lot of people don't want to give someone a shell unless they have met them etc. You may just be unlucky and no LS that are recruiting randoms have heard you. You'll find getting a shell a lot easier once you've leveled up and can start doing stuff with other people more.

3. Do Records of Eminence timed quests - they happen a few times a day. When you complete it you get a voucher that can be traded for currencies and relic/mythic/empyrean weapon upgrade items. When you get two vouchers - trade them in for a pluton: http://www.ffxiah.com/item/4059/pluton - that's worth a fair bit. Otherwise, I advise opening brown caskets, can get some items that you can sell for a few K here and there or NPC okay. Also crystals sell at a good clip.

Honestly you shouldn't need any gil really at lower levels. Get gear using points from records of eminence/conquest points (level caps have been removed on the missions so you can solo your way up) or from killing NMs (they increased spawn rates/drop rates) - there is not much on the AH for lower level players anyway and almost all of it is incredibly cheap.

#4REDACTED, Posted: Jan 11 2014 at 11:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Unless you can get at least 6 people to consistently play with you in this game I wouldn't bother. Players in this game see helping anyone in this game to be a huge burden. I was never able to get anyone to respond in yell to anything even simple questions. Just the other night I finally got someone to help with the last artifact for my geo and they made me wait over an hour then they just left. Linkshells are useless in this game as well as all they do is talk. Had not found one willing to help and I am afraid to even ask cause I don't want to come across as needy. Sure you can solo a bunch of stuff by why? The gear you get from it is outdated anyway. Bottom line the community in this game is lazy as hell they and extremely rude.

Sounds like you're the rude and lazy one. People do play with others but generally, it's a give and take. I can't disagree with anyone who doesn't want to spend hours helping someone who will give up and quit the game/badmouth the community the moment people don't handhold them through to the very best gear.

I've been soloing my thf lately, even soloed BCNM to get a better dagger cause the ones on the AH were not that great. It's a level 60-odd dagger so yeah its "outdated" but for now it's cool to use when I'm out derping around, causing havoc among mobs and generally having a relaxing time. The point of playing a game is to PLAY it.

If you're looking for a game/community where people will power-level you to end game immediately, and outfit you with the best gear on THEIR time you're never going to find one. I've never ever ever played an MMO where people didn't expect you to do your own work before asking for help. In my experience FFXI has a super helpful community, but yeah, there is an expectation that you will do what you can to help others as well.

Example: "Hey what are you two doing in La Thiene"

"Oh we're popping VNMs to unlock our empy WS"

"Mind if I drop in and help out?"

"We're good, but you're welcome to come."

Then wow, all of the sudden you're hanging out with people, while they do their thing. Maybe you're not much help - maybe you are. But while you're there you're part of the game, part of the community, and part of the linkshell - not just some words in a blue box crying for people to carry you. People want to help those who are social and friendly. No wonder you had trouble.

Bottom line FFXI community is LAZY AND RUDE. After all it took 5 days for anyone to even see this post. Also explain to me why people are multi boxing several accounts? Why you say? Cause that's the only way people can get ahead in this game. Maybe of SE made it a bit more difficult to multi-box it would force people to actually play with others then themselves this game would not be dieing. Really 1000 players per server how many is really playing?

Funny, these posts are date stamped, and it was exactly two days and 1 hour, not five. These boards also slow down considerably on the weekend. And others probably saw it, rolled their eyes and didn't reply to your uber-negative post.

Anyway, as I said above, your demeanor explains why you've had troubles. You won't have any luck in any MMO with that kind of attitude, and it won't help you with life either. Good luck buddy.

Believe it or not, treating people like real people will go a long way in getting you help. Shouting for selfless help in an MMO is basically the same as pan handling, and people will treat you like a beggar.

Just like in real life, what you need to be doing is finding people with similar interests and participating in those interests together. Find activities that will benefit both of you and work on those together.

Shout groups don't form because one person is able to convince people to help them. Shout groups are formed by choosing an activity that many want rewards from and teaming up to accomplish them.

Don't shout for an LS. Join other people's activities and ask if anyone knows a social LS after the task is accomplished.

Best advice. Shouting for an LS makes you look like a leper.
