With FINAL FANTASY XI's eleventh anniversary celebrations well underway, we're proud to announce another appreciative measure: two types of the Return Home to Vana'diel Campaign!

While you may have been away for many moons, Vana'diel has developed nicely over the past years, with the recent additions of enticing new content and improvements to familiar content making the realm easier than ever before to explore! Why not make now the time to check up on old friends and see some new sights?

Persue the particulars on what Vana'diel has to offer returning adventurers.

huh? I think this is great. I was posting yesterday on my old LS facebook group and a couple people were like "ohh would like to check out some of the stuff they added to FFXI" - this gives them an opportunity to do so without paying anything - which is huge - cause not many people want to put out for a sub when they are not sure they will enjoy something. This is a way to get some old players to give the new content a chance.

Yea, events like this are great to me. I think its cool to offer a free trial, but its not enough to bring me back sadly. I had 8 amazing years of FFXI, but last time I logged in I was just sad and overwhelmed. Its just not the same. Also, I had 2 characters, so I need 2 copies of SoA @ $30 each and then 2x $13 so....$86?!! my first month back. Yea, no thanks.

I haven't played in a long time so I'm only in a mix of AF3+1 and old gear with no relics, no empys, some progress in Abyssea but not near done and obviously nothing in Adoulin. All my old friends have quit. I'd have to redo all my macros, gear sets, everything. My inventory is likely a mess. I'd be looking at hours and hours of logistics just to prep, then days or months of catching up. I just can't do it.

Maybe I interpreted it wrong, but it seems like people only get to try SoA for free if they actually sub. Otherwise it'd just be the rest of the game for oldbies to tinker with.

No it sounds to me like they get to try the whole new game. That would make more sense anyway.

Think you'll be able to unlock the new jobs with the free trial? I would love it if Seekers came down to about $10... then I'd think about buying it and staying around a little longer.

I'd be really shocked if you couldn't

Is this PC only or can my wife do it on Xbox360 too?

I have the downloads ready for PC, but can't seem to find the 360 version.

Given that they're basically advertising that it's the entire Seekers of Adoulin Ultimate Collection, I would imagine it offer you everything that you'd be able to get/do normally, which would include unlocking other jobs including RUN and GEO.

She might not be able to do Adoulin stuff if you don't have the discs for that, but it sounds like all accounts otherwise get reactivated on the 11th.

You would think so, but this doesn't seem to be the case. The bottom portion seems specifically to download the game data. It doesn't quite say people will be able to access the expansion for free. Also see the bottom text on this video at 3:02.

Of course it's possible that the text is aimed at people without accounts.. We'll see for sure in two days.

I'm wanting to give this a try again after 5 years. I got the game installed again and all that, transferred my playonline account to square enix but my characters aren't reactivating. I'll probably figure it out tomorrow if I can talk to support but does anyone know what's going on here?

Yeah, but only for NEW people.

He said he tried to re-activate OLD characters.

My bad, I had it in my mind that both the Ultimate Collection campaign and the Return to Vana'diel campaign started on the same day.

I thought both campaigns started on the same day too. So I'm confused though. Should I be able to get on now or do I need to wait till the 11th?

The game let me log in already. The expansions aren't unlocked without buying them.

I wasn't allowed on either. The agent said that many people are having the same issue and to keep trying to get on later. :/

And I was honestly thinking of coming back to this game.

I'm in the same boat, no luck getting on and Tech Support told me the same thing twice now. But I'm trying to get something for free so I'm not gonna let it bother me.

Wow.. first login in almost two years.

I am trying out the free return thing, my last logout was apparently 1/1/2012. I was able to log right in without any action except resetting my long-forgotten passwords. My Linkshell was long gone, last banner was in April. I didn't see many people around.

I distinctly remember my MNK and DRK had weapons that I got from chests that I spent points on.. the snow place where ya fight the buffalo, there was a base camp that you could spend points and get weapons with random enhancements. I remember spending considerable time lotting over and over to get decent bonuses. I see somewhere during my hiatus, these bonuses got wiped, so both of my weapons are now "base" with no enhancements. Very depressing. I see my MNK has some new L99 options in the AH (what's the Item Level thing?) but DRK still gets jacked trying to get a weapon.

Had a heck of a time getting the game going in Win8.1 off my old installation. DirectPlay had to be added from the "Legacy" section in Control Panel.. My keyboard keeps interfering with the gamepad being recognized.. ugh. The old install updated in roughly an hour.

The GUI still appears to be fixed to 16:10, so at 16:9 it looks all stretched.

I dunno.. gonna be a hard sell. I've been playing Ragnarok Online 2 and am pretty adjusted to that game now. Tho it is buggy as heck.
