I've been out of commission since early April and just played around with the first week or two of Adoulin stuff after the expansion launched. Wondering if there's any Adoulin starter guide now that people are a bit more comfortable with the new systems. Until taking my recent break I had played consistently for years, but the extent of my SoA experience was unlocking RUN and GEO (and doing some RUN leveling, I'm 60-something in it now), doing a handful of colonization Reives by following the crowd to the next battle, and wandering around a little in the city and surrounding zones.

I get the gist of Delve weapons and the resulting "you broke our R/M/E" debate, but don't quite understand how to get myself up to the current endgame/Delve level.

Some questions:
- What's the progress to go through the Adoulin content, and what to expect when doing it (i.e. hours of farming in a group? is Delve farming kind of like the new meripo?)
- How do the Naakual/Skirmish weapons play into things (i.e. are they worthwhile placeholders, how hard are they to get, do people actually do that content with any regularity, etc.).
- Is it plausible to make progress with limited LS help or with small groups of friends? Pickup groups reasonable for most new content or is it heavily weighted toward big LS time commitments?

Gear for my 7 jobs (MNK THF RNG NIN PUP COR DNC) is basically Abyssea/VW level stuff. Weapon-wise I don't have a ton of R/M/E, just a couple 85 empys (Armageddon & Kannagi), and otherwise lv99 magian elemental or similar grade AH weapons. Armor I have full Empy+2 sets, some good VW and Relic+2 pieces, etc., and I know I can get a little Bayld and at least get the Thurandaut stuff to start where it's better than my current armor. No NNI/Salvage v.2 gear. I suspect my COR is the most desirable job for a group because buffs, but some of the "Delve weapon or GTFO" talk has me a bit nervous.

Any tips on how to Adoulin?

First, a quick guide to Adoulin:
If I created a new character and had to redo all SoA content so far, here would be my approach:

1. Complete all missions and all quests in Adoulin with special rewards (KIs, kinectic units)
2. Unlock all possible waypoints
3. Start spamming Courier Coalition Tasks
3.5 Skirmish weapons, they're easy to obtain, but easily outclassed
4a. Farm 300,000+ bayld
4b. Complete all Wildskeeper Reives*
4c. Farm plasm in Delve.
4d. Fight Delve NMs when you see them, but prioritize plasm.
4e. Explore the rest of Adoulin

You're sort of right in that plasm farming is kind of like merit parties. The event is 18 people, the goal is to kill as many monsters as possible. Trash mobs in the zone give 50 plasm/kill while NMs give more, but can also take too much time. In most cases, do not touch any NMs and run away and die if you end up with aggro (typically a PLD will aggro them first though).

Right now, a lot of shouts for Delve will be asking for DDs with RMED weapons. As a COR, most leaders will not be concerned about your weapon. More than anything, they want someone that will buff and pull mobs. When fighting the NMs, just try to stay focused and if you have any questions, ask them. I won't lie, having to answer the same question several times is annoying, but worse is when someone doesn't then the fight goes wrong because the person was uncertain.

Most SoA content can be completed through PUGs. Some servers may have casual Delve farming linkshells. I think Delve bosses would be the only thing I would limit to an organized linkshell.

The most important thing is to identify what makes a good set of gear, start as close as possible to that with what you have, then identify pieces that are better and go for them. If you're uncertain about gear sets and you're open to criticism, then job forums here and ffxiah are great resources. Posting your gear helps the most, but can also be the toughest to do. Probably the most specific advice I can give for DD jobs is to have a high ACC set and sushi ready. Many of the NMs and mobs in Adoulin have high evasion, so this is definitely important.

Skirmish and Naakual weapons were good. They were an excellent step from old content to Delve. The problem is that Delve was too easy, so it's simple to skip over that content (Naakual armor can still be good). I would consider those weapons good enough to participate as a DD, but not everyone will be open minded or aware of the rewards from that content, so I would not expect it to be your golden ticket until you earn Delve weapons.

Skirmish can be completed in a group of 3-6 and pops are sold on the AH for cheap, shout groups will work, but I recommend linkshell members or friends.
Wildskeeper Reives are more of a server wide event (so you need lots of people, typically 30+), usually organized through shouting.

*Right now, there is no strong reason to complete this, but my gut tells me it may come up in the future.

Thanks for that Xypin, can't rate it up enough.

Even though they are easily outclassed, I am trying to get a few members of my shell ready to do skirmish, since a lot of the weapons are better or not far behind 99 RME (as they stand currently!) if properly/luckily augmented (and not terrible even with a so-so augment) I figure it is worth a couple hundred K and a night or two of farming to try for them. At the very least, if I can get sword and axe my soloing on BLU RDM and BST will be more efficient. The need for 6 players max is also really attractive.

Indeed, thanks a ton. Exactly what I was looking for, and by far the best quick summary of what to do in Adoulin I've seen.

Welcome back Anza.

Xypin's reply was wonderful, but one small thing I would add is the manner in which Delve functions.

Each of the three (current) zones--Morimar, Hennetiel and Ceizak--have five NMs that can be fought inside the Delve fracture or outside. Three of the NMs are immediately available on entering delve (T1-T3) and the remaining two (T4, T5) become accessible 15 minutes into any delve run. All T1-T3 NMs in a zone share a KI that is obtained 100% on the first kill, and likewise, the T4 and T5 share a 100% drop KI. Once a KI is obtained, all drops for all NMs that share it are accessible for purchase with plasm. The main motivation to fight outside is that the NM will drop an item that allows that NM to be bypassed inside a fracture. All five NMs in a fracture must be killed or bypassed to access that fracture boss. Fracture bosses will also drop a KI that allows their drops to be purchased for plasm.

That means that as you progress, you only really need to concern yourself with killing one NM for a given tier once to have access to desired gear, and typically one NM in each zone/tier kind of stands out as relatively easy compared to the others. For example, Volatile Matamata (Morimar T1) is easily killed and will give a KI that allows the character to purchase any of the T1, T2 or T3 Morimar NM drops for plasm.

Plasm farming normally consists of a full ally, with one player being designated as a sac. The sac will round up the first three NMs, drag them to a safe location (normally start point) and die... then re-raise, re-agro, and re-die, keeping the NMs in a safe location throughout the course of the 45 minute run, with the T4 and T5 NMs being pulled to them to also hold. Obviously, twilight set is needed for this. The rest of the players in the zone are working in a manner very similar to an old meripo.

In Anza's case, COR remains highly desired for both NMs and plasm farming. Other desired jobs are whm and brd, a sac (twilight set) and DDs. While some shouters may ask for R/M/E/D DDs, the difficulty of the mobs doesn't really warrant that, and at least on our server, fewer farming groups are requiring that (though it will help you get in when three are 8 spots and 20 tells).

My personal experience so far has been that this is a pretty well designed system by SE (other than changing the field NMs from indefinite fight duration to 20 min after the first week or so) and most of the reaction on these boards has been a bit melodramatic.
