it keeps saying incorrect pol password? please help :(

Are you sure you entered in the password correctly and not confusing it with your Square-Enix ID password?
Also by POL password are you referring to the POL profile account or the password attached to your POLID?
If it's just the Profile account then you can just create a new one using the same POLID and SE account.

now it says i don't have a content id?
You'll need to set one up via the SE account manager site.
[Under Service and Options] Select Service->Playonline/FFXI [under active accoutns] Options List->Add New Options (Should say 12 more optional...I think)

i just bought the game and have all the codes and stuff
Not sure why SE has yet to make it so that you automatically have 1 active Content ID on new accounts.

how do i activate a content id?
[Under Service and Options] Select Service->Playonline/FFXI [under active accoutns] Options List->Add New Options should be the way. It's been ages since I've started a new account, and even then it was way back when everything was still done through Playonline.

I would except sadly POL system is old and archaic...no way to add people to the friendlist outside of the game ...at least not that I know of. Will dig around the viewer.
Tried friend search and found nothing =(

I'll probably be passed out by the time you get it updated (huuuge update), so when you get in game try doing a /sea all Rtando or /sea all Evererdus or..erm...can't think of who else.. but tell em Dave sent you. They can hook you up with a linkpearl. We're a just small social LS but can help you out.
