If I was in an Abyssea party with 3 other people, I was not bard. If there was any number greater than three, I had a 50/50 shot of being on bard. If there was more than a party, I was probably on bard.

MP management was rarely a problem in most Abyssea groups, and for proccing NMs, killing faster wasn't really the point. March helps build TP, but half the time the remaining melee are turned away while the WAR or the NIN tried to proc whatever.

I realize this isn't current page material to respond to, but my experiences in XI have led me to recognize that there isn't a single job that has consistently been offered an instantaneous invite to any and every event. I feel like this needs to be emphasized a little more, because people not having JOBX or /SUBY leveled in a game environment that favors that job or job combination leads them to believe that EVERYONE IS OUT TO GET THEM, or something equally absurd, and it's simply not true.

It's not always one job, no... but is always at least one. If you were to go through each and every event and tally up the number of times you could say "all we need is a [job x], [job y] and a few [job z] then you'd quickly realize that it's usually the same jobs that are preferential to the rest. To be fair, if I were a career DRG there would never be a point in my FFXI career where I thought EVERYONE WAS OUT TO GET ME Smiley: frown

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

I will be honest: I just spent the better part of two days leveling my BRD from 42 to 99. To be fair, I did play and enjoy BRD, but the fact that I am seriously OCD about my jobs held me back from going to 75 back in the day. Mainly, dat inventory. I think I have 14 instruments I carry...? At the time I had limited room and was doing endgame, so to change to BLM from BRD took a nice amount of muling and prep. In the end I shelved it in favour of trying to "be endgame".

It was awesome to come back to it, I always loved running about, pulling mobs, sleeping adds, buffing the party. It's awesome to see the reactions of the entire party the moment the buffs start driving their numbers higher. But I did return for the "easy" invite. Mind you, for me that "easy" invite is hard since I am simultaneously gearing it while trying to get access in the new area -.-

The bigger point: You do what you got to in order to get your stuff at times. It's why I have various 99's I worked on, even if they are not fully geared.

I never understood why BRDs bothered to carry more than 4-5 instruments or so when there's only a handful of songs ever worth casting.

Maybe add another 1 to that since Madrigals are actually getting used nowadays, but yeah...

I think I had 7-8 I lugged around before I got Ghorn. Some of them you really want the extra potency on, like marches since that's a % haste boost, and lullaby and elegy since they're enfeebles. For stuff like Etudes? Pffft no point.

Glad you are enjoying it. I leveled BRD to be more useful to my LS as well, since we always have no shortage of WHM. I wish more people had your attitude toward it. We have a couple DD in our shell who have absolutely NO support/mage jobs and never understand that we can't always make space in an ally for them, whereas if they just leveled ONE support job they would almost be guaranteed to be an alliance staple.

I really need an LS that does more organized events... the chaotic noob shell/mostly empty shell combo is not working for me.

I was collecting currency for a Mandau, but with the change in weapons, I am debating using it on a Relic horn I've held onto since my old days in my Dynamis shell...

I know, but at the same time, I have always min/max'd as much as I saw feasible. For instance I did not get all the elemental Magian staves simply because I would need 24 to truly feel geared out to the max on my jobs (8 damage, 8 acc, 8 perp for when SMN gets its turn to go to 99). Instead I stuck with my +1 staves. 24 inventory that is not storable, even max'd as I am on storage, is just insane. And I know the instruments don't all help, but I didn't want to take chances. I wanted my BRD to be top of the line.

I am of the mindset that since they gave you now 22 jobs to play, it's best to have one of each leveled (one tank, one DD, one healer, one nuker, one ). You can do the hybrids to give you more options (like how MNK can DD and tank to some degree depending on mob/area), but limiting yourself to leveling and gearing for one role only hurts yourself and anyone who you join for events. Sure, my gear is not fantastic on them all, and I am still in need of some serious skilling on some jobs (RUN jus got to 99 as well so I will have some fun on WAR soon just running through weapons to skill them all up...), but that just leaves me out of high end events, which I'd likely not be in using most of those other jobs because they lack the high end gear of someone doing it as a career.
