Hello,

I have my FFXI on steam but don't want to purchase the collection through them just to play the expansion. Is it possible buy the downloadable version from SE and it be compatible with my steam FFXI?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should be able to buy just the expansion from Amazon and install using that download.
If you are missing the Wings or any Abyssea expansion though, you will need to buy the collection, but I assume you're only missing Seekers.

A few weeks ago, SE did announce that they were having trouble producing just the expansion Steam, so as an apology, people would be able to buy the new collection at a lower price if they already owned the previous collection. I don't know if this has happened yet though.

Played FFX1 for the whole time since NA release. I have never ordered gil online ,I have worked, farmed to get acceptable gear for my three 99 level characters. I have had fun and enjoyed the experience. However because I play on ps3, due to disability problems that make PC play extremely difficult. I now find that SE so appreciates their customers that I can not purchase a version of Seekers to update my gameplay. Thank you I will continue to play, I love the game to much to quit. but darn it would it have broke the world to throw an update for ps2 into the mix? Any chance you might reconsider SE? never mind I know the answer.[img=194961]

Ever thought about hooking a PC up to your tv. Then getting a wireless mouse & keyboard?

SE did not produce the expansion for NA PS2 because the interest was extremely limited, it has nothing to do with RMT.

I have no clue why you can't use a PC, but if you are able to log into FFXI, that should be all that you need. Many people hook up controllers to their PC and play the game that way. You could also switch to xbox360 if you need to use a console, but of course, it's not a cheap switch if you don't already have a console.

PS2 is dead.

Face it, the system is no longer even being manufactured. I enjoyed my PS2 days, but PC has countless advantages, from custom maps and .dat files to access to an alternative viewer that totally isn't mentioned in this post...

Buy a cheap computer, install the game, play.

Yes, so you buy a PC, hooked it to a huge *** TV, buy a controller, hook up the controller. Buy a rollerball (they still have them) for logging in.

You act like his disability would somehow preclude getting a PC configured to operate like a glorified console. It wouldn't. Hell when I played FFXI on my new tower, I did so using my 42" TV. A Tarutaru's *** never seemed so large...

Edit:

And you know what, what sort of disability does he have? We don't even know, but he plays on PS3 just fine. Means he has at least the manual dexterity to operate the PS2-style controller. If it is a visual issue, PC can overcome that even better than PS3. If it is physical, **** he might even find an even BETTER controller for PC's. FFXI's controller configs is probably the best out there from what I've seen from the modern games. I didn't think that would be the case but after seeing the offerings from other companies, and having used multiple styles of controllers from multiple manufacturers, and never having an issue mapping buttons in any configuration (save for those damned XBox controllers, stupid analogue triggers), he would likely have a better experience with it.

I found your post very informative, could you please advise me on the type of controller I could get to use with a PC thank you for your interest. I don't need to buy a computer I have 3. lol but I guess I could find a cheap one if you think its needed (joke) And man are you right a Taru butt leaves nothing to the imagination on a 47 inch screen ^^

Thanx

There may be cheaper options out there, but I use a Logitech F710 wireless. It's decent on battery life and connection, and it has a switch between direct input (good for FFXI, makes the triggers mappable), and Xbox input modes (good for other, later PC offerings which directly map to Xbox setups).

Direct website here.

Pretty much any controller will work though. Many people use wired Xbox360 controllers. I think there are options using bluetooth and PS3 controllers. I also used to use a PSX to PC adapter and a PS2 controller, which was nice, but I don't know if you can still get those.

Many thanks, I will be looking into these options ASAP.

My apologies, I sort of forgot about this thread.

OK, again, not knowing your specific difficulties with a PC, you have to understand that PC gaming is far more accessible than console gaming. There are a variety of controllers ranging from variations on console controllers (I personally use an el cheapo Gamestop-branded PS3 USB controller) to unique PC-only ones.

Take, for example, this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126050

I used one very similar to play WoW for a long time. I never used it on FFXI, but then since it has an independent controller software that can be mapped to any keys, it is very conceivable to make it much easier if your disability has to do with manual dexterity.

If you are visually impaired, most computers now come with HDMI-outs that will go to any major brand of flatscreen manufactured. Or, at worst, you would need to get a converter to broadcast to a TV screen.

Again, for example: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815100144

No I don't work for NewEgg either, just, really easy to find sh*t there

So even if you have an oldschool TV, you can get it broadcasting off to it. Then, in addition, that gives you all the accessibility options of a PC, including the MAgnifier application that can zoom in portions of the screen so you can see them. Consoles are actually LESS friendly for the disabled. HOWEVER if you want them more so, go over and check out this: http://www.askacapper.com/petition

Basically that guy is a handicapped gamer who plays FPS games yet has hands that do not function normally. He's been petitioning companies to make console-connectable controllers that are mapable, as well as pursuing developers to allow remapping of their controls.
