That doesn't work if you're in a 10 minute time limit BC like the 95 cap fight.

If you haven't beaten him in 5 minutes of fighting it's probably because you wiped anyway

The BST method relies on having the BST tank him while you whittle him down before using the tail, if you only have one tail.

Before the tail was implemented, a multi BST strategy relied on people sacrificing pets and using CB for a fresh tank midway. That's how everyone in my LS got through since we didn't have four people with MNK and a spare Alex SMN (but we had five BSTs!)

Anyway, most BSTs learned the hard way to not waste a jug outside of the BC since it's money down the drain.

Is the 95 cap fight soloable by BST now with the tail? Only time I have done the fight is the first week it was released, pre-tail. I'm leveling a new character now, and if BST can solo it that is good news.

I don't think a solo bst could put out enough damage in the time limit, even with multiple tails (which I don't think is possible)

Maybe when they add the second "two hour" it would be possible to foot kick the taru to the end, but if you could do that they would probably just nerf the two hour, so... bleh

Not with one tail, but I bet it could be done with multiples.

You wouldn't want to be some run of the mill ghetto BST though; you'd actually have to give a sh*t if you want to push out enough damage in time.

Important thing to note: make sure you do attacks on him from the back while he's frozen to maximize your damage. He can still guard attacks while frozen, somehow.

You'll have the taru frozen most of the time; you should be busting out a tiger or something for better damage instead of that rabbit.

Fyn, at least on the test server, the best damage using the new bst two hour comes from the rabbit - by a long shot. Foot kick is actually one of our strongest ready moves.

Lucky Lulush... is friggin' awesome. :D Out of all the pets so far, it's looking to be one of the top contenders for damage output during BST SP2, with a combination of high damage and high frequency of Ready moves during those 60 seconds.

Razor fang avg damage: 1014 X 14 moves before SP2 wears
Foot kick avg damage: 1812 X 16 moves before SP2 wears

Granted, in abyssea... so that skews things in terms of more crits, but my experience shows foot kick to be the stronger faster move. Though in normal circumstances the tiger is the stronger DD

It really doesn't take that long to skill up most skills. Pick a skill level appropriate crab SLIME and swing away (Kuftal > Boyahda > Abyssea is the basics). Skills come easy, and once you're at Abyssea level skill it's even more mindless with Abyssea and regen/triple attack atmas. Total time expenditure to leech/level more quickly and then skill up is not going to exceed the total time to level more slowly in GoV (and then still need to skill up, but a little less).

FTFY.

I understand crabs, but slimes last longer, don't hit any harder really, and can heal themselves prolonging a fight. They're the perfect monster for skilling up melee weapons. Sauromugue Champaign (any monster, but cocks last the longest) to about 75/80, then head inside Garlaige and beat on the Acid Greases until 175 (or level 50~52 equivalent). Then head to Caedarva Mire and beat on the Oil Slicks there until about 225 (or 64~66 equivalent). From there you can either head to Mount Zhayolm and beat on a few Mountain Clots to get to 275 (or 72~75 requivalent) or simply head on to abyssea and beat on crabs ad infinitum (sadly no slimes in Abyssea). Since slimes take such little damage you only really need 2 mobs (3 at the absolute most).

The leveling:skilling:time ratio yes, I agree with. It's rather foolish now to try to "keep skills capped" while you level because it slows you down dramatically. I don't think a lot of people understand how much it slows them down until they finally push through a job and then go back to skilling up.

Being in abyssea doesn't change the length of the attack animation and therefore the number of uses you'd get out of the SP2.

And in my experience foot kick does consistently better damage than razor fang regardless. I'll admit I don't have a parse to back it up but my experience is that while the tiger is a strong DD in terms of it's auto attack it's damaging TP moves are lackluster (Roar can be super awesome though)

Talking about the damage, not the animation, the latter of which shouldn't matter anyway really. Only the readying time does. You don't have to wait for a WS to finish animation before you can do another one, as just about any SAM or /SAM or anyone who's ever been in a zerg could tell you.

And even if the rabbit can still push out a little more damage with the SP2, that's still only for one minute, and that's still not going to win you the fight. I'm reasonably sure the tiger would still come out ahead over time.

Going off the graph here http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=262&mid=1345305251285988942&h=50&p=1#21 Foot kick did 44% more damage than Razor fang per use. With 2 extra uses. If you multiply the dmg & uses foot kick did twice as much damage in 1 minute. After SP2 is over you can use leave and call what ever pet you like for the rest of the fight.

Again, that's in Abyssea with crit atma used, meaning Foot Kick SHOULD be hitting harder in that situation (assuming the ability is anything like the BLU spell, Foot Kick can hit for criticals, and Razed Ruins would drastically increase both the likelihood of that happening and the damage when it does). I would think it'd lose a lot of that lead outside Abys

I'm honestly not sure if you can go into the fight with a pet already out. If you can't, swapping pets like that might not be that simple >_> Waiting out the Call Beast timer before engaging might not be something you'd want to do with such a short time limit on the battle.

And again, why exactly would Foot Kick be getting extra uses compared to Razor Fang aside from player error? Does it have less readying time? Because again, the animation length should be having no effect at all on how often you can issue commands (or any other JA/WS, for that matter)

SP2 resets the recast on call beast if its not already on cooldown. So if you're pressed for time you could SP2 > Call beast > Spam TP moves > Leave > Call Beast.

Oh, didn't know that >_> Having a hard time keeping track of all these newfangled SP2s we were supposed to get 37 years ago.

When DO we get those, anyway? Any word?

Edit: Also, can anyone play on the test server provided they have all the expansions, or is it only for people who signed up for it early on?

Wow, I just installed the game on my laptop now I'm back in Japan and it only took less than an hour to update here, compared to 12 hours before. I guess the smaller ping makes it much faster to download all the little files.

I'm level 91 BST at the moment... took some time to get my NIN and DNC up to 50 too. Still need to get round to doing the cap quest...
